The development of clean and sustainable energy sources has received widespread interest in the past few decades due to the rolling energy demands while extenuating the rising tiers of greenhouse gases and environmental pollution.Due to their intermittent nature,these green and sustainable sources require appropriate energy storage systems.Amongst different energy storage technologies,electrochemical energy storage devices,particularly supercapacitors(SCs),have fascinated global attention for their utilization in electric vehicles,power supports,portable electronics,and many others application requiring electric energy devices for their operation.Thus,the growth of SCs in the commercial market has squeezed requirements,and further developments are obligatory for their effective industrialization.In the meantime,SCs also face technical complications and contests for their introduction in industrial settings because of their low energy density and high Levelized cost.The present study combines core strengths,weaknesses,opportunities,and threats(SWOT)analysis of SCs with new perspectives and recent ideas.The challenges and the future progressive prospects of SCs are also presented in detail.This review will afford consistent direction and new superhighways for the further development of SCs as standalone and complementary energy storage systems.

Population growth and development patterns have a significant impact on the environmental performance.The issue of concern is whether population growth or the consumption/production patterns are responsible for environmental deterioration.This paper is an attempt to capture the impact of technological development,affluence,and population on environmental performance index,while previous stuthes had captured the impact of these three factors on environment only through CO_2emissions.The analysis reveals that technological development and population size have a negative impact on environmental performance,whereas measures to improve affluence have a positive impact.Technological development has increased the production of energy efficient products but at the same time consumption of these products has increased manifold leading to environmental deterioration.Demographic attributes need specific attention to improve environmental performance.This paper concludes on some policy reflections on slowing the population growth as well as persuades individuals and economies to relook to their consumption and production patterns and channelize their efforts to protect the environment.

Variations of the harmonic components of the X-ray pulse profile of PSR B1509–58

We used the Fourier decomposition technique to investigate the stability of the X-ray pulse profile of a young pulsar PSR B1509–58 by studying the relative amplitudes and phase differences of its harmonic components with respect to the fundamental using data from the Rossi X-Ray Timing Explorer. Like most young rotation powered pulsars, PSR B1509–58 has a high spin down rate. It also has less timing noise, allowing accurate measurement of higher order frequency derivatives which in turn helps in the study of the physics of pulsar spin down. Detailed investigation of pulse profiles over the years will help us establish any possible connection between the timing characteristics and the high energy emission characteristics for this pulsar.Furthermore, the study of pulse profiles of short period X-ray pulsars can also be useful when used as a means of interplanetary navigation. The X-ray pulse profile of this source has been analyzed for 15 yr（1996–2011）. The long term average amplitudes of the first, second and third harmonics（and their standard deviation for individual measurements） compared to the fundamental are 36.9%（1.7%）, 13.4%（1.9%） and 9.4%（1.8%） respectively. Similarly, the phases of the three harmonics（and standard deviations） with respect to the fundamental are 0.36（0.06）, 1.5（0.2） and 2.5（0.3） radian respectively. We do not find any significant variation of the harmonic components of the pulse profile in comparison to the fundamental.

We study RXTE PCA data for the high mass X-ray binary source SMC X-1 between 2003–10 and 2003–12 when the source was in its high states.The source is found to be frequently bursting which can be seen as flares in lightcurves that occur at a rate of one every 800 s, with an average of 4–5 Type Ⅱ X-ray bursts per hour.We note that typically a burst was short, lasting for a few tens of seconds in addition to a few long bursts spanning more than a hundred seconds that were also observed.The flares apparently occupied 2.5% of the total observing time of 225.5 ks.We note a total of 272 flares with mean FWHM of the flare ～21 s.The rms variability and aperiodic variability are independent of flares.As observed, the pulse profiles of the lightcurves do not change their shape, implying that there is no change in the geometry of an accretion disk due to a burst.The hardness ratio and rms variability of lightcurves exhibit no correlation with the flares.The flare fraction shows a positive correlation with the peak-to-peak ratio of the primary and secondary peaks of the pulse profile.The observed hardening or softening of the spectrum cannot be correlated with the flaring rate but may be due to the interstellar absorption of X-rays as evident from the change in hydrogen column density(n_H).It is found that the luminosity of the source increases with the flaring rate.Considering that the viscous timescale is equal to the mean recurrence time of flares, we fixed the viscosity parameter α ～ 0.16.

The main aim of the present work is to study the linear temperature behaviour of a non-homogeneous trapezoidal plate whose thickness varies linearly in both directions. The temperature behaviour considered linear along the length of the plate. Non-homogeneity in plate arises due to variation in density along the length of the plate. The two-term deflection function with clamped-simply supported-clamped-simply supported boundary condition is taken into consideration. The effect of structural parameters such as taper constants, thermal gradient, non-homogeneity constant and aspect ratio has been studied. Rayleigh-Ritz method is used to solve the governing differential equations and to obtain the fundamental frequencies for the first two modes of vibration. Results are presented in graphical form.

The present analysis demonstrates the thermal effect on vibrations of a symmetric, non-homoge- neous trapezoidal plate with parabolically varying thickness in both directions. The variation in Young’s modulus and mass density is the main cause for the occurrence of non-homogeneity in plate’s material. In this consideration, density varies linearly in one direction. The governing differential equations have been derived by Rayleigh-Ritz method in order to attain fundamental frequencies. With C-S-C-S boundary condition, a two term deflection function has been considered. The effect of structural parameters such as taper constants, thermal gradient, aspect ratio and non-homogeneity constant has been investigated for first two modes of vibration. The obtained numerical results have been presented in tabular and graphical form.

In this paper, effect of thermal gradient on vibration of trapezoidal plate of varying thickness is studied. Thermal effect and thickness variation is taken as linearly in x-direction. Rayleigh Ritz technique is used to calculate the fundamental frequencies. The frequencies corresponding to the first two modes of vibrations are obtained for a trapezoidal plate for different values of taper constant, thermal gradient and aspect ratio. Results are presented in graphical form.

Introduction: Abdominal pregnancy, one of the rare forms of ectopic pregnancy demands a high index of suspicion for its timely diagnosis and intervention so as to prevent both maternal and neonatal complications. We presented a case of secondary abdominal pregnancy which was missed at the first instance at a private centre and came to us with nonspecific abdominal symptoms after an attempted termination of pregnancy by surgical means (dilation and curettage). Case presentation: A 24-year-old third gravida with two live issues at 10-week gestation came to us with complaints of pain lower abdomen, vomiting and inability to pass stool. She gave history of undergoing dilation and curettage (D&C) at a private hospital for termination of pregnancy about 20 days back. After thorough work-up and investigations, the diagnosis of secondary abdominal pregnancy was established and she was taken up for exploratory laparotomy with the removal of fetus with placenta. The patient progressed well with the postoperative period remaining uneventful. Conclusion: Secondary abdominal pregnancy poses as a challenge to clinicians working with limited diagnostic facilities. The condition may be life threatening if not handled meticulously.
