Euler-Euler CFD modeling of fluidized bed:Influence of specularity coefficient on hydrodynamic behavior

Euler-Euler two-fluid model is used to simulate the hydrodynamics of gas-solid flow in a bubbling flu- idized bed with Geldert B particles where the solid property is calculated by applying the kinetic theory of granular flow （kTGF）. Johnson and Jackson wall boundary condition is used for the particle phase, and different amount of slip between particle and wall is given by varying the specularity coefficient （φ） from 0 to 1. The simulated particle velocity, granular temperature and particle volume fraction are compared to investigate the effect of different wall boundary conditions on the hydrodynamic behavior, Some of the results are also compared with the available experimental data from the literature. It was found that the model predictions are sensitive to the specularity coefficient. The hydrodynamic behavior deviated sig- nificantly for φ = 0 and φ = 0.01 with maximum deviation found at φ = 0 i.e. free-slip condition. However, the overall bed height predicted by all the conditions is similar.

Effect of coefficient of restitution in Euler-Euler CFD simulation of fluidized-bed hydrodynamics

Collision between particles plays an important role in determining the hydrodynamic characteristics of gas-solid flow in a fluidized bed. In the present work, earlier work （Loha, Chattopadhyay, ＆ chatterjee, 2013） was extended to study the effect of the elasticity of particle collision on the hydrodynamic behavior of a bubbling fluidized bed filled with 530-~m particles. The Eulerian-Eulerian two-fluid model was used to simulate the hydrodynamics of the bubbling fluidized bed, where the solid-phase properties were calculated by applying the kinetic theory of granular flow. To investigate the effect of the elasticity of particle collision, different values of the coefficient of restitution were applied in the simulation and their effects were studied in detail. Simulations were performed for two different solid-phase wall boundary conditions. No bubble formation was observed for perfectly elastic collision. The bubble formation started as soon as the coefficient of restitution was set below 1.0, and the space occupied by bubbles in the bed increased with a decrease in the coefficient of restitution. Simulation results were also compared with experimental data available in the literature, and good agreement was found for coefficients of restitution of 0.95 and 0.99.

Folic acid protects against fluoride-induced oxidative stress and testicular damage in rats

Objective:To investigate the effects of folic acid on testicular oxidative damage in sodium fluoride-induced male Wistar ***:A total of 24 male Wistar rats were divided into 4 groups:the control,sodium fluoride(fed with 100 mg/L sodium fluoride through drinking water orally for 21 days),folic acid(36μg/kg body weight/day,orally),and sodium fluoride plus folic acid(received similar dose orally)*** the end of 21 days,epididymal sperm parameters,biochemical analysis of testicular tissue,and serum hormonal levels were performed along with histopathological ***:Sodium fluoride intoxication resulted in marked reduction in gonado somatic index,serum luteinizing hormone,and testosterone level along with 3β-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase and 17β-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase *** addition,reduction in sperm density,as well as loss of sperm motility and sperm viability,were also ***,increased levels of testicular malondialdehyde,nitrite,interleukin-6 and tumor necrosis factor-α as well as decreased levels of superoxide dismutase and catalase activities and reduced glutathione content were found to be associated with this *** acid co-treatment,on the other hand,could prevent all the sodium fluoride-induced testicular pathophysiology and oxidative stress related *** examinations of testicular sections from the experimental rats supported these ***:Combining all,this study suggests that being an antioxidant,folic acid plays a beneficial role against fluoride-induced adverse effects on the male reproductive system.

Distribution of Forms of Sulphur and Their Relationships with Soil Attributes in Tea Growing Soils under Different Agro-climatic Zones of Northeastern India

Distribution of different forms of sulphur(S)and carbon-nitrogen-sulphur relationships were studied in surface and subsurface soils of some tea growing areas of Northeastern *** soils were strongly acidic in reaction(pH-4.0 to 5.5),low to very high in organic carbon(4 to 54 g kg^-1),with cation exchange capacity(8.8 to 19.2 cmol(p+)kg^-1)and base saturation(50 to 77%).Organic S mostly contributed to the total-sulphur(62 to 77%)followed by Non sulphate S(28.8 to 37.2%)and sulphate S(0.7 to 1.4%).Except sulphate S,other forms of sulphur showed significant positive correlation among themselves as well as with organic carbon and total *** C:N,C:S,N:S and C:N:S ratio varied from 8.2 to 10.0,6.18 to 71.57,0.62 to 7.26 and 100:10.1:1.4 to 100:12.2:16.2 *** C:N:S ratios in all the surface and sub-surface soils indicated that the major portion of nitrogen and sulphur in tea growing soils of Northeastern India is locked up in organic combination which might pose as a potential threat towards tea plantation if application of sulphur is continuously ignored.
