Blumgart's technique of pancreaticojejunostomy: Analysis of safety and outcomes

Background: Blumgart's pancreaticojejunostomy(PJ) has been described with low pancreatic leak rates. This study aimed to evaluate our experience with this technique regarding the pancreatic leak and other perioperative outcomes. Methods: We performed a single-center retrospective analysis of a cohort of 81 patients who underwent pancreaticoduodenectomy in our department from January 2011 to February 2018. The primary endpoint was the occurrence of a clinically relevant postoperative pancreatic fistula(CR-POPF) and analysis of its risk factors. Results: The CR-POPF rate was 12.3%. Fistula risk score(FRS) was the only significant risk factor for the occurrence of overall POPF in multivariate analysis. However, none of the other factors including FRS was found to be significantly associated with CR-POPF risk. A strong positive correlation was found between the CR-POPF and the incidence of delayed gastric emptying, post-pancreatectomy hemorrhage and increased length of hospital stay. Conclusion: Blumgart's technique is a safe technique of pancreatico-enteric anastomosis with low rates of CR-POPF. CR-POPF with this technique is independent of most of the preoperative and intraoperative factors. Therefore, this technique can be used for all types of the pancreas with consistently good results.

The current study evaluates the cytogenetic effects of chromium（Ⅲ） oxide nanoparticles on the root cells of Allium *** root tip cells of *** were treated with the aqueous dispersions of Cr2O3 nanoparticles（NPs） at five different concentrations（0.01,0.1,1,10,and 100 μg/m L） for 4 *** colloidal stability of the nanoparticle suspensions during the exposure period were ascertained by particle size *** 4 hr exposure to Cr2O3 NPs,a significant decrease in mitotic index（MI） from 35.56%（Control） to 35.26%（0.01 μg/m L）,34.64%（0.1 μg/m L）,32.73%（1 μg/m L）,29.6%（10 μg/m L） and 20.92%（100 μg/m L） was *** optical,fluorescence and confocal laser scanning microscopic analyses demonstrated specific chromosomal aberrations such as-chromosome stickiness,chromosome breaks,laggard chromosome,clumped chromosome,multipolar phases,nuclear notch,and nuclear bud at different exposure *** concentration-dependent internalization/bio-uptake of Cr2O3 NPs may have contributed to the enhanced production of anti oxidant enzyme,superoxide dismutase to counteract the oxidative stress,which in turn resulted in observed chromosomal aberrations and cytogenetic *** results suggest that *** root tip assay can be successfully applied for evaluating environmental risk of Cr2O3 NPs over a wide range of concentrations.

Biodiesel fuel is found to be a promising alternative for the petroleum diesel based on the results published by the researchers for a *** fuel is renewable and non degradable *** countries use biodiesel fuel for automotives to meet the crisis due to the depletion of the petroleum fuel and to meet the stringent emission norms Various researches have been carried out with different biodiesel fuels with vegetable oil as the source and appreciable results were *** biodiesel fuels which have been already tested are Jatropha,Pongamia,Mahua,neem,cotton seed,*** this experimental work,Adelfa biodiesel blend is used as the test *** emission and performance characteristics were compared with three other different biodiesel fuel *** results imply that Adelfa biodiesel(Nerium oil methyl ester)can be a futuristic biodiesel fuel,which has a good compatibility with the direct injection(DI)diesel engine without any major ***,Adelfa can be cultivated in a non agricultural land with fewer sources of *** is widely spread over all major countries of *** investigations have been carried out on a single cylinder DI diesel engine with standard engine *** this experimental work,various Adelfa biodiesel blends is compared with reference fuel(diesel)to choose the best blend which gives a closer performance to *** comparative analysis with other biodiesel fuels has also been done and results have been discussed.

Establishment of ornamental and aesthetic plants in hot, arid conditions of India is difficult due to the prevailing climatic, edaphic and biotic factors. Effect of turfgrass on the growth of ornamental plants in hot arid conditions has not been studied so far anywhere in the world. A study was conducted on the campus of Arid Forest Research Institute, Jodhpur, India to assess the performance of a few ornamental plant spe- cies in combination with turfgrass and without turfgrass with respect to different soil tilling intervals. Growth of plants was better with turfgrass than without turfgrass. We suggest adopting a soil tilling interval of 30 days to achieve optimum growth of ornamental plant species in terms of height and crown diameter. Our results can help reduce labor costs and achieving better landscapes in fewer days in hot urban conditions of Indian sub continent.

Capacitation and acrosome reaction are important prerequisites of the fertilization process. Capacitation is a highlycomplex phenomenon occurring in the female genital tract, rendering the spermatozoa capable of binding and fusionwith the oocyte. During capacitation various biochemical and biophysical changes occur in the spermatozoa and thespermatozoal membranes. Ions and ion channels also play important roles in governing the process of capacitation bychanging the fluxes of different ions which in turn controls various characteristics of capacitated spermatozoa. Alongwith the mobilization of ions the generation of free radicals and efflux of cholesterol also plays an important role in thecapacitation state of the spermatozoa. The generation of free radical and efflux of cholesterol change the mechano-dynamic properties of the membrane by oxidation of the polyunsaturated lipids and by generating the cholesterol freepatches. The process of capacitation renders the spermatozoa responsive to the inducers of the acrosome reaction. Theglycoprotein zona pellucida 3 (ZP3) of the egg coat zona pellucida is the potent physiological stimulator of the acro-some reaction; progesterone, a major compoent of the follicular fluid, is also an induce of the acrosome *** inducers of the acrosome reaction cause the activation of the various ion-channels leading to high influxes of calci-um, sodium and bicarbonate. The efflux of cholesterol during the process of capacitation alters the permeablity of themembrane to the ions and generate areas which are prone to fusion and vesculation process during the acrosome reac-tion. Ths review focuses mainly on effects of the ion and ion-channels, free radicals, and membrane fluidity changesduring the process of capacitation and acrosome reaction. Osteoarthritis(OA)is characterized by cartilage degradation,pain,and synovitis.1 Joint inflammation driven by cytokines has been demonstrated to cause cartilage degradation and pain.2 However,approaches to neutralize cytokines,such as IL-1 and TNF-α,known to be involved in OA have shown poor clinical efficacy.3 There is an unmet clinical need to find better anti-inflammatory and pain targets for OA therapy and to elucidate the role of other cytokines in OA *** studies have shown that IL-22 and its receptor IL-22R play central roles in inflammation and diseases such as psoriasis,ulcerative colitis,graft-versus-host disease,certain infections and tumors,as well as in liver and pancreas damage.4,5 The role of IL-22/IL-22R and the potential for therapeutic targeting of both proteins in OA remain largely unknown,which we sought to investigate.

Multiyear Observations of Deposition-Mode Ice Nucleating Particles at Two High-Altitude Stations in India

Ice nucleating particle(INP) measurements were made at two high-altitude stations in India. Aerosols collected on filter paper at Girawali Observatory, Inter University Center for Astronomy & Astrophysics(IGO), and at the Radio Astronomy Center, Ooty(RAC), were activated in deposition mode using a thermal gradient diffusion chamber to determine the INP concentrations. The measurement campaigns at IGO were conducted during 2011, 2013 and 2014, and at RAC during 2013 and 2014. When the aerosol samples were exposed to an ice supersaturation of between 5% and 23% in the temperature range-17.6?C to-22?C, the maximum INP number concentration at IGO and RAC was 1.0 L-1and 1.6 L-1, respectively.A maximum correlation coefficient of 0.76 was observed between the INP number concentration and ice supersaturation. The airmass trajectories analyzed for the measurement campaigns showed that the Arabian Desert and arid regions were the main INP contributors. Elemental analysis of particles showed the presence of Na, Cl, Si, Al, Fe, Cu, Co, Cd, S, Mn and K, as well as some rare-Earth elements like Mo, Ru, La, Ce, V and Zr. When aerosols in the size range 0.5–20 μm were considered, the fraction that acted as INPs was 1 : 104to 1 : 106at IGO, and 1 : 103to 1 : 104at RAC. The higher ratio of INPs to aerosols at RAC than IGO may be attributable to the presence of rare-Earth elements observed in the aerosol samples at RAC, which were absent at IGO.
