Tillage and Rice-Wheat Cropping Sequence Influences on Some Soil Physical Properties and Wheat Yield under Water Deficit Conditions

Adopting a better tillage system not only improves the soil health and crop productivity but also improves the environment. A field experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of tillage and irrigation management on wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) production in a post-rice (Oryza sativa L.) management system on silty clay loam soil (acidic Alfisol) for 2003-2006. Four irrigation levels (RF: rainfed;I1: irrigation at crown root initiation (CRI);I2: irrigation at CRI + flowering;I3: irrigation at CRI + tillering + flowering), and two tillage systems (ZT: zero tillage and CT: conventional tillage) were tested. Zero tillage compared to CT, resulted in higher bulk.density (1.34 vs 1.23 Mg –3), lower total porosity (48.7 vs 52.9%), higher penetration resistance (1.51 vs 1.37 MPa), lower saturated hydraulic conductivity (1.60 vs 92.0 mm h–1), lower infiltration rate (9.40 vs 36.6 mm h–1) and higher volumetric available water capacity (7.9 vs 7.5%) in the surface 0.15 m soil layer. Irrigation levels significantly affected crop water use, wheat yield, and water use efficiency (WUE). Average total water use was 461, 491, 534 and 580 mm under RF, I1, I2 and I3 treatments, respectively. Grain and straw yield of wheat were statistically the same under ZT and CT during 2003-2004;the values, averaged over four irrigation levels were 2.10 and 2.38 Mg a–1 for grain, and 3.46 and 3.67 Mg a–1 for straw, respectively. Grain yield declined by 22%, 11% and 8% of I3 (2.32 Mg ha–1) with RF, I1 and I2 treatments, respectively, under ZT;and by 13%, 8% and 5% of I3 (2.61 Mg ha–1) with RF, I1 and I2 treatments under CT. Average values of WUE were 4.33 k. ha–1 m–1 and 2.35 m3–1 grain for the ZT and CT treatments. Wheat yield increased with increased irrigation levels for all the cropping seasons. Results from this study concluded that ZT system was better compared to the CT system even with lower yields due to lower input costs for this treatment.

Evaluation of Rainfall Tendency for the Twentieth Century over Indira Sagar Region in Central India

The study investigates long-term changes in annual and seasonal rainfall patterns in the Indira Sagar Region of Madhya Pradesh, India, from 1901 to 2010. Agriculture sustainability, food supply, natural resource development, and hydropower system reliability in the region rely heavily on monsoon rainfall. Monthly rainfall data from three stations (East Nimar, Barwani, and West Nimar) were analyzed. Initially, the pre-whitening method was applied to eliminate serial correlation effects from the rainfall data series. Subsequently, statistical trends in annual and seasonal rainfall were assessed using both parametric (student-t test) and non-parametric tests [Mann-k.ndall, Sen’s slope estimator, and Cumulative Sum (CUSUM)]. The magnitude of the rainfall trend was determined using Theil-Sen’s slope estimator. Spatial analysis of the Mann-k.ndall test on an annual basis revealed a statistically insignificant decreasing trend for Barwani and East Nimar and an increasing trend for West Nimar. On a seasonal basis, the monsoon season contributes a significant percentage (88.33%) to the total annual rainfall. The CUSUM test results indicated a shift change detection in annual rainfall data for Barwani in 1997, while shifts were observed in West and East Nimar stations in 1929. These findings offer valuable insights into regional rainfall behavior, aiding in the planning and management of water resources and ecological systems.

Luminescence properties of near-UV excitable yellow-orange light emitting warm CaSrAl_2SiO_7:Sm^(3+) phosphors

Single-phase CaSrAl_2 SiO_7:Sm^(3+) phosphors were synthesized by traditional high temperature solid state reaction method. Formation of samples and phase analysis were confirmed by X-ray diffraction technique. Morphology was done by field emission scanning electron microscopy and elemental compositions were confirmed by energy dispersive X-ray analysis. Present phosphors have tetragonal crystallography with space group P42_1 m. Average crystallite size was calculated by using Scherrer and Williamson-Hall method. Photoluminescence study of CaSrAl_2 SiO_7:Sm^(3+) phosphor was *** different excitation wavelengths, PL spectra consist of four emission bands at 564, 570, 601 and650 nm. The emission bands located at 564 and 570 nm are associated with the transition ~4 G_(5/2)→~6 H_(5/2)while emission bands at 601 and 650 nm are due to ~4 G_(5/2)→~6 H_(7/2) and ~4 G_(5/2)→~6 H_(9/2),*** emission was obtained when phosphor was excited under 404 nm wavelength. Non-radiative energy transfer process involved in concentration quenching, was also discussed. CIE coordinate is found in yellow-orange region, hence CaSrAl_2SiO_7:Sm^(3+) phosphors emit yellow-orange light when efficiently excited by near UV(～400 nm) LED chip. Color purity and CCT of the phosphor were determined; CCT suggests that present phosphor is a good candidate as a warm yellow-orange color emitting phosphor. Effect of different heating rates and different UV exposure time on the TL glow curve of the phosphor was investigated. Activation energies and k.netic parameters for different traps were calculated by using peak.shape method. TL emission spectrum was also recorded. Present article explains all the possible mechanisms associated with luminescence process in CaSrAl_2 SiO_7:Sm^(3+) phosphors.

Numerical investigation of the effect of transitory strand opening on mixing in a multistrand tundish

In a multistrand,the outlet near the inlet produces short circuiting *** leads to the formation of dead zones inside the tundish,and consequently,the mean residence time *** the present study,numerical investigation of mixing inside a delta shaped tundish with sloping boundaries was carried out by solving the Navier-Stok.s equation and employing the standard turbulence *** decrease the dead zone volume inside the tundish,the effect of closing the outlet near the inlet for a small amount of time and further opening it on the mixing behavior of the tundish was *** outlets near the inlet were closed for varying amount of time,and the transient analysis of fluid flow and the tracer dispersion study were carried out to find the mixing parameters of the tundish,namely,mean residence time and the ratio of mixed to dead volume of the *** optimum closure time of the near outlet has been found,which yields best mixing inside the *** numerical code was validated against the experimental observation by performing the tracer dispersion study inside a multistrand tundish and the reasonably good match between the experimental and numerical results in terms of residence time distribution （RTD） *** results obtained from the present study confirm the strong role of choosing the right time for opening and closing the outlets to get improved characteristics for the fluid flow and mixing behavior of the *** educational version of computational fluid dynamics （CFD） software PHOENICS was used to solve the governing equations and interpret the results in different forms.

Investigation of the Test–Retest Reliability and Inter-Rater Agreement of Traditional Chinese Medicine-Based Pulse Practitioners

Objective:The objective of this study was to assess the test–retest reliability and inter-rater agreement between the traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)pulse diagnosis between two Indian TCM ***:A total of 300 participants were evaluated for their bilateral pulse based on TCM independently by two investigators with similar years of experience but who graduated from different medical *** investigators who were blinded diagnosed the participants as per TCM based on the depth,rate,and strength of their ***αand weighted k.ppa were used for assessing the reliability and ***:The data of all the 300 participants were included in the *** test–retest reliability computed using Cronbach's alpha indicated high reliability between the investigators(α=0.963).There were a total of 37 different types of diagnoses identified by both *** investigators diagnoses matched for 116 participants out of 300 participants;whereas 184 cases were not matched between the *** inter-rater agreement for the TCM diagnosis tested by weighted k.ppa did not returned any significant agreement(k.ppa=0.370).Discussion:The present study shows higher reliability between the pulse diagnoses between the ***,the inter-rater agreement for TCM diagnosis based on pulse diagnosis was not significant probably due to the variation in subjective *** calls for the standardization of training in TCM diagnostic methods among *** studies should include the differences in training,medical education,and experience among the practitioners while determining the reliability of pulse diagnosis.

Improved thermoelectric property of cation-substituted CaMnO_3

Single-phase pristine and cation-substituted calcium manganite（Ca1-xBixMn1-yVyO3-δ） polycrystalline samples were synthesized by the solid state reaction technique. Their thermoelectric properties were measured by a set up that was designed and assembled in the laboratory. The Ca1-x BixMn1-yVyO3-δsample with x = y = 0.04 has shown a power factor（S^2σ） of 176 μW/m/k.2 at 423 k. which is nearly two orders of magnitude higher than that of the pristine sample（2.1 μW/m/k.）. The power factor of the substituted oxide remains almost temperature independent as the Seebeck.coefficient increases monotonically with temperature, along with the simultaneous decrease in electrical resistivity which is attributed to enhanced electron density due to co-doping of bismuth and vanadium and grain boundary scattering. These cation-substituted calcium manganites can be used as a potential candidate for an n-type leg in a thermoelectric generator（module）.

Evaluation of fundus autofluorescence patterns in age-related macular degeneration

AIM： To study the various morphological patterns of fundus autofluorescence （FAF） images in patients with age-related macular degeneration （AMD） in Indian ***： Totally 179 eyes of 104 patients with clinical diagnosis of AMD were recruited into the study. Autofluorescence images were captured using confocal scanning laser ophthalmoscope and the patterns of FAF were ***： Of 179 eyes, 27 （15.08%） were early AMD, 58 （32.41%） were intermediate AMD, 94 eyes （52.51%） were late AMD. Of 94 eyes with late AMD, 79 （84.04%） were neovascular AMD and 15 （15.96%） were central geographic atrophy. In eyes with early and intermediate AMD, 9 patterns of FAF were noted. Six patterns （normal, minimal change, focal increased, patchy increased, linear, reticular） were similar to that in the published classification. Two patterns （lacelik. and speck.ed） described in the published classification were not found. Three new patterns （focal hypo-fluorescence, patchy hypo-fluorescence, mixed focal hypo-fluorescence and hyper-fluorescence） were detected. In eyes with neovascular AMD, 6 morphological patterns of FAF were noted. Two patterns （mixed hypo-fluorescence and hyper-fluorescence, central hypo-fluorescence with hyper-fluorescent rim） were similar to that in published classification. Two patterns （normal, near normal or normal back.round fluorescence in the centre of hypo-fluorescent area） described in the published classification were not found. Four new patterns （minimal change, hypo-fluorescent patch, central hypo-fluorescence with surrounding reticular, bull’s eye） were recognized. In eye with central geographic atrophy 5 morphological patterns were noted and these were similar to that in published ***： Phenotypic differences in the pattern of FAF exist in the study population compared to existing classification systems.

Conservation agriculture impact for soil conservation in maize-wheat cropping system in the Indian sub-Himalayas

Conservation agriculture(CA)is considered as a suitable technique for soil erosion control,productivity enhancement,and improved economic *** investigate these issues,an experiment was conducted under rainfed conditions using grass vegetation strip(VS)with minimum tillage,organic amendments and weed mulch during June 2007-October 2011 at Dehradun,Uttarak.and in the Indian Himalayan *** showed that the mean wheat equivalent yield was47%higher in the plots under with CA compared with conventional agriculture in a maize-wheat crop *** runoff coefficients and soil loss with CA plots were45%less and54%less than conventional agriculture *** average,after the harvest of maize,soil moisture conservation up to 90 cm soil depth for wheat crop was 108%higher under CA than conventional agriculture *** net return from the plots with CA was 85%higher,and when expressed net return per tonne of soil loss,it was four and half times higher than conventional *** demonstrate that the suitable CA practice(a grass strip of Palmarosa with applied organic amendments(farmyard manure,vermicompost and poultry manure)along with weed mulching under conservation tillage)enhances system productivity,reduces runoff,soil loss and conserve soil moisture.&2015 International Research and Training Center on Erosion and Sedimentation and China Water and Power *** and Hosting by Elsevier *** is an open access article under the CC BY-NC-ND license(http://***/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0/).

Anterior segment optical coherence tomography for identifying muscle status in strabismus surgery

Anterior segment optical coherence tomography （AS-OCT） finds very few indications in the domain of strabismus surgery. Current applications remain restricted to determining limbus-muscle insertion distance and anterior segment changes after strabismus surgery. We discuss two cases of operated strabismus surgery where AS-OCT imaging helped in identifying the operated eye and/or extra ocular muscles （EOM） and thus proved instrumental in planning and management.
