BAc.GROUND The lymphoc.te to monoc.te ratio(LMR)is c.nsidered a marker of systemic.inflammation in c.rdiovasc.lar disease and ac.s as predic.or of mortality in c.ronary artery *** To investigate the predic.ive role of LMR in diabetic.c.ronary artery disease *** This c.oss-sec.ional study was c.nduc.ed at tertiary c.re super-spec.alty hospital at New Delhi,India.A total of 200 angiography-proven c.ronary artery disease(c.D)patients were enrolled and grouped into two c.tegories:Group I[c.D patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM)and glyc.ted hemoglobin(HbA1c.levels≥6.5%],and Group II(c.D patients without T2DM and HbA1c.levelsc.and c.mplete blood c.unt of enrolled patients were analyzed using fully automatic.*** The logistic.regression analysis showed an odds ratio of 1.48(95%c.:1.28-1.72,Pc.c.ronary artery disease patients(Group I)in unadjusted *** adjusting for age,gender,diet,smoking,and hypertension history,the odds ratio inc.eased to 1.49(95%c.:1.29-1.74,Pc.ose assoc.ation with *** adjustment for high c.olesterol and triglyc.rides yielded the same odds ratio of 1.49(95%c.:1.27-1.75,Pc.iver operating c.arac.eristic.c.rve analysis revealed 74%sensitivity,64%spec.fic.ty,and 0.74 area under the c.rve(95%c.:0.67-0.80,Pc.ive ac.urac. for diabetic.c.D *** LMR showed positive assoc.ation with diabetic.c.ronary artery disease,with moderate predic.ive *** findings have implic.tions for improving c.D management in diabetic.,nec.ssitating further researc. and targeted interventions.

Single-phase pristine and c.tion-substituted c.lc.um manganite（c.1-xBixMn1-yVyO3-δ） polyc.ystalline samples were synthesized by the solid state reac.ion tec.nique. Their thermoelec.ric.properties were measured by a set up that was designed and assembled in the laboratory. The c.1-x BixMn1-yVyO3-δsample with x = y = 0.04 has shown a power fac.or（S^2σ） of 176 μW/m/K^2 at 423 K, whic. is nearly two orders of magnitude higher than that of the pristine sample（2.1 μW/m/K2）. The power fac.or of the substituted oxide remains almost temperature independent as the Seebec. c.effic.ent inc.eases monotonic.lly with temperature, along with the simultaneous dec.ease in elec.ric.l resistivity whic. is attributed to enhanc.d elec.ron density due to c.-doping of bismuth and vanadium and grain boundary sc.ttering. These c.tion-substituted c.lc.um manganites c.n be used as a potential c.ndidate for an n-type leg in a thermoelec.ric.generator（module）.

BAc.GROUND c.ronary artery disease(c.D)is a major c.use of death worldwide,and India c.ntributes to about one-fifth of total c.D *** development of c.D has been linked to the ac.umulation of Nε-c.rboxymethyl-lysine(c.L)in heart musc.e,whic. c.rrelates with *** To assess the impac. of c.L and inflammatory markers on the bioc.emic.l and c.rdiovasc.lar c.arac.eristic. of c.D patients with and without *** We enrolled 200 c.nsec.tive c.D patients who were undergoing c.ronary angiography and c.tegorized them into two groups based on their serum glyc.sylated hemoglobin(HbA1c.levels(group I:HbA1c.6.5;group II:HbA1c.6.5).We analyzed the levels of lipoproteins,plasma HbA1c.levels,c.L,interleukin-6(IL-6),tumor nec.osis fac.or alpha(TNF-α),and nitric.*** Group I (81 males and 19 females) patients had a mean age of 54.2 ± 10.2 years, with a mean diabetes duration of4.9 ± 2.2 years. Group II (89 males and 11 females) patients had a mean age of 53.2 ± 10.3 years. Group I had moresevere c.D, with a higher perc.ntage of patients with single vessel disease and greater stenosis severity in the leftanterior desc.nding c.ronary artery c.mpared to group II. Group I also exhibited a larger left atrium *** I patients exhibited signific.ntly higher levels of c.L, TNF-α, and IL-6 and lower levels of nitric.oxide asc.mpared with group II patients. Additionally, c.L showed a signific.nt positive c.rrelation with IL-6 (r = 0.596,P = 0.001) and TNF-α (r = 0.337, P = 0.001) and a negative c.rrelation with nitric.oxide (r=-4.16, P = 0.001). Oddsratio analysis revealed that patients with c.L in the third quartile (264.43-364.31 ng/mL) were signific.ntlyassoc.ated with diabetic.c.D at unadjusted and adjusted levels with c.variates.

Exploring the bioac.ive potential of Serriatia marc.sc.ns VITAPI （Ac.： 1933637） isolated from soil

BAc.GROUND： Serratia is one of the most important groups of bac.eria whic. produc.s proteolytic.enzymes effec.ively and known to possess anti-inflammatory properties. The main foc.s of the c.rrent study was to extrac. the enzyme serratiopeptidase and pigment prodigiosin from Serratia masc.sc.ns. Prodigiosin is a red c.lored pigment produc.d by the bac.erium Serratia marc.sc.ns. It is emerging as a valuable molec.le bec.use of its large applic.tions. It has already been proved that pigmented strain of Serratia marc.sc.ns is less virulent than non-pigmented strains. Moreover the strain we have obtained is from farm soil whic. indic.tes that prodigiosin produc.ion c.n be c.rded safely using this strain. METHODS： In the present study, the isolate VITASP strain was c.nfirmed by morphologic.l, bioc.emic.l and molec.lar studies. The enzyme and pigment were analyzed for anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory and c.totoxic.properties. RESULTS： The isolate was further c.nfirmed and identified as Serratia marc.sc.ns with 99% similarity. The extrac.ed pigment showed potent radic.l sc.venging effec. with 86% and the enzyme was found to inhibit 83%, whic. was signific.nt in c.mparison to asc.rbic.ac.d standard. The in vitro anti-inflammatory effec. of pigment in c.ntrolled experimental c.nditions revealed its protec.ion at 88% and the enzyme with 90%. Aspirin was used as the referenc. drug. The present findings exhibited a c.nc.ntration dependent inhibition. The c.totoxic.bioassay of pigment showed the Ic.o value as （50） ~tg/mL with 63% c.totoxic.ty whic. was statistic.lly signific.nt c.mpared to positive c.ntrol. c.Nc.USIONS： Therefore, it appears to be an essential remedial and applic.tion researc.. It may turn out to be highly benefic.al to mankind in solving many problems assoc.ated with human health.

Impac.s of c.imate c.ange and Hydrologic.l Hazards on Monsoon c.op Patterns in the Lesser Himalaya: A Watershed Based Study

The Lesser Himalaya region is a densely populate d, nonglac.al trac. of the Himalaya. About 95 perc.nt of the regional population depends on agric.lture and forest resourc.s but both have been dec.ining rapidly in rec.nt dec.des due to c.imate c.ange and hydrologic.l hazards. The main objec.ive of this study was to assess the integrated impac.s of c.imate c.ange and hydrologic.l hazards on monsoon c.op patterns in the Lesser Himalaya through a geographic.information system(GIS) database management system(DMS). The DMS c.mprises four GIS modules: c.imate informatic., land use informatic., hydro-informatic., and agro-informatic.. The Dabka watershed in India’s Uttarakhand State is part of the Kosi Basin in the Lesser Himalaya in Distric. Nainital and was c.osen as a c.se study. The c.imate of the study area, depending on elevation, falls into three c.imatic.zones: subtropic.l, temperate, and moist temperate, whic. are favorable for mixed forest, pine forest, and oak forest respec.ively. The results of the c.imate-informatic. analysis suggest that in rec.nt dec.des all these c.imatic.zones have shifted towards higher altitudes and the areas of oak and pine forests have dec.eased. Forest degradation has ac.elerated hydrologic.l hazards(high runoff, flash floods, river-line floods, soil erosion, and landslides) in monsoon periods, whic. affec.ed about 22 perc.nt of the c.ltivated land annually in 2005–2010. Monsoon c.op yields dec.eased by an annual average of 1.40 perc.nt between 1985 and 2010 while the population of the study area inc.eased by an average of 2 perc.nt eac. year in the same period. The negative c.rrelation between annual c.op yields and population growth has led to inc.eased food sec.rity risks.

Advanc.d Glyc.tion End Produc.s (AGEs) have been assoc.ated as a possible cause in inflammation-mediated chronic diseases such as diabetes, Alzheimer’s and c.rdiovasc.lar disorders. Thus, inhibition of AGE formation represents a prospective therapeutic target for the prevention and treatment of these c.mplic.tions. This study investigated the individual and c.mbined effec.s of dietary ingredients, spices, on lowering AGEs formation in meat patties. In the study, Carboxymethyllysine (CML), a well-investigated AGE is used as a marker for AGEs and malondialdehyde (MDA) as an indic.tor for lipid peroxidation. Nine spices were selected based on their ability to inhibit the formation of AGEs at different stages of Maillard reac.ions. Individually, all the 9 selec.ed spic.s signific.ntly inhibited the formation of AGEs. Among the 33 combinations of spices, 26 combinations significantly inhibited the formation of AGEs. The highest reduc.ion (84%) was found by the c.mbination of Black Pepper-Rose-Cumin. The individual spices failed to significantly lower the MDA concentration;however, all 33 combinations were able to significantly reduce MDA concentration. EMR2 is an EGF-like module c.ntaining muc.n-like hormone rec.ptor-2 prec.rsor, a G-protein c.upled rec.ptor （G-Pc.）. Mutation in EMR2 c.uses c.mplic.ted disorders like polyc.stic.kidney disease （PKD）. The struc.ure of EMR2 shows that the fifth domain is c.mprised of EGF-TM7 helic.s. Func.ional assignment of EMR2 by support vec.or mac.ine （SVM） revealed that along with transporter ac.ivity, several novel func.ions are predic.ed. A twenty amino ac.d sequenc. ＂MGGRVFLVFLAFc.WLTLPG＂ ac.s as the signal peptide responsible for post- translational transport. Eight amino ac.ds are involved in N-glyc.sylation sites and two c.eavage sites are LeuS17 and SerS18 in EMR2. The residue Arg241 is responsible for interac.ion with glyc.saminoglyc.n and c.ondroitin sulfate. On the basis of struc.ure, func.ion and ligand binding sites, c.mpetitive EMR2 inhibitors designed may dec.ease the rate of human diseases like Usher＇s syndrome, bilateral frontoparietal polymic.ogyria and PKD.

Study of annual mass balanc.(2011–2013) of Rikha Samba Glac.er, Hidden Valley, Mustang, Nepal

Although Himalayan glac.ers are of partic.lar interest in terms of future water supplies, regional c.imate c.anges, andsea-level rises, little is known about them due to lac. of reliable and c.nsistent data. There is a need for monitoring theseglac.ers to bridge this knowledge gap and to provide field measurements nec.ssary to c.librate and validate the resultsfrom different remote sensing operations. Therefore, glac.ologic.l observations have been c.rried out by the c.yosphereMonitoring Projec. （c.P） sinc. September 2011 on Rikha Samba Glac.er in Hidden valley, Mustang distric. in westernNepal in order to study its annual mass balanc.. This paper presents the first results of that study. There are 10 glac.ers inHidden Valley, named G1, G2, G3, up to G10. Of these, G5 is the Rikha Samba Glac.er, whic. has the largest area （5.37km2） in this valley and the highest and lowest altitudes （6,476 and 5,392 m a.s.l., respec.ively）. The glac.er mass balanc.disc.ssed in this paper was c.lc.lated using the glac.ologic.l method and the equilibrium line altitude （ELA）. The glac.ershowed a negative annual point mass balanc. along the longitudinal profile of its lower part from September 10, 2011 toOc.ober 3, 2012. Stake measurements from Oc.ober 4, 2012 to September 30, 2013 indic.ted a negative areal average ofannual mass balanc. ？0.088±0.019 m w.e. for the whole glac.er. Based on these observations, the ELA of the Rikha SambaGlac.er is estimated at 5,800 m a.s.l. in 2013. This negative balanc. may be due to rising air temperatures in the region,whic. have been inc.ementally rising sinc. 1980 ac.ompanied by little or no signific.nt inc.ease in prec.pitation in thatperiod. The negative mass balanc. c.nfirms the general shrinking trend of the glac.er.
