Herbal medicines are popular natural medicines that have been used for *** use of alternative medicines continues to expand rapidly across the *** World Health Organization suggests that quality assessment of natural medicines is essential for any therapeutic or health care applications,as their therapeutic potential varies between different geographic origins,plant species,and *** of herbal medicines based on a limited number of secondary metabolites is not an ideal *** quality should be considered based on a complete metabolic profile,as their pharmacological activity is not due to a few specific secondary metabolites but rather a larger group of bioactive compounds.A holistic and integrative approach using rapid and nondestructive analytical strategies for the screening of herbal medicines is required for robust *** this study,a rapid and effective quality assessment system for geographical traceability,species,and variety-specific authenticity of the widely used natural medicines turmeric,Ocimum,and Withania somnifera was investigated using Fourier transform near-infrared(FT-NIR)spectroscopy-based metabolic *** different geographical origins of turmeric,five different Ocimum species,and three different varieties of roots and leaves of Withania somnifera were studied with the aid of machine learning *** good discrimination(R^(2)>0.98,Q^(2)>0.97,and accuracy=1.0)with sensitivity and specificity of 100%was achieved using this metabolic fingerprinting *** study demonstrated that FT-NIR-based rapid metabolic fingerprinting can be used as a robust analytical method to authenticate several important medicinal herbs.

Impacts of Micro- and Nano-Plastics on Soil Properties and Plant Production in Agroecosystems: A Mini-Review

Micro- and nano-plastics (MNPs) are tiny plastic particles resulting from plastic product degradation. Soil MNPs have been identified as potential influential factors affecting various soil properties and crop biomass productivity. This mini-review provides a synthesis of recent findings concerning their effects on soil physicochemical properties, microorganisms, organic carbon content, soil nutrients, greenhouse gas emissions, soil fauna, and their impacts on plant ecophysiology, growth, and production. The results indicate that MNPs may mark.dly impede soil aggregation ability, increase porosity, decrease soil bulk.density, enhance water retention capacity, influence soil pH and electrical conductivity, and escalate soil water evaporation. Exposure to MNPs may predominantly induce changes in soil microbial composition, reducing the diversity and complexity of microbial communities and microbial activity while enhancing soil organic carbon stability, influencing soil nutrient dynamics, and stimulating organic carbon decomposition and denitrification processes, leading to elevated soil respiration and methane emissions, and potentially decreasing soil nitrous oxide emission. Additionally, MNPs may adversely affect soil fauna, diminish seed germination rates, promote plant root growth, yet impair plant photosynthetic efficacy and biomass productivity. These findings contribute to a better understanding of the impacts and mechanistic foundations of MNPs. Future research avenues are suggested to further explore the impacts and economic implications.

Case report: Metastatic adenocarcinoma of the lung with filiform “ciliated” tumor cells in the cerebrospinal fluid

Occurrence of cilia on the cell surface is usually considered evidence of a non-neoplastic process. Rarely, ciliated malignant tumors cells have been reported in pleural and ascitic fluids from ovarian and endometrial adenocarcinomas, though not from the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) in association with pulmonary adenocarcinoma. We now present a case report of a patient who initially presented with neurologic symptoms. A CSF specimen revealed atypical cells with peripheral cilia and some cytoplasmic pigment. Cytologic, morphologic, and immunohistochemical analyses established this to be a metastatic adenocarcinoma of pulmonary origin with metastases to the meninges, pelvis, and the vertebrae. Cilia are generally the antithesis of malignancy as their presence is considered to be evidence of proper regulation of the cell cycle within a well-differentiated cell. This case offers the first described example of malignant ciliated cells derived from a metastatic lung adenocarcinoma. An awareness of this unusual presentation should aid in diagnosis and management when similar situations are prospectively encountered.

Effects of Variety and Planting Density on Mung Bean Eco-Physiology and Yield in the Southeastern US

Mung bean (Vigna radiata L. Wilczek.) is a warm-season, C3 pulse crop of the legume family that has been widely cultivated in Asian countries. As the demand for mung bean continues to increase in the United States, the ecophysiology, growth, and yield of mung bean varieties in the southeastern US need to be assessed. A field experiment was conducted at the Agricultural Research and Education Center of Tennessee State University to investigate the effects of four varieties (Ok.000, Berk.n, TSU-1, AAMU-1) and three planting densities (5, 10, and 15 cm spacing) on the ecophysiology and yield of mung bean. Results showed that the relative chlorophyll content, plant height, pod dry biomass, pod number, crop yield, and harvest index significantly varied among the varieties. Density only influenced transpiration, relative chlorophyll content, and plant dry biomass. Ok.000 had 101.0% more pods per plant and a 42.4% higher harvest index and produced a 45.3% higher yield than other varieties, but no significant difference in yield was found among the other three varieties. This study demonstrated that the mung bean variety Ok.000 with a high yield would be ideal for commercial production in the southeastern US.

Objective:To detect types of liver disorders through biochemical studies in coastal Andhra Pradesh,***:Serum level of bilirubin(total and direct),serum glutamate oxaloacetate transaminase(SGOT),serum glutamate pyruvate transaminase(SGPT)and alk.line phosphatase(ALP)were measured among the adult men and women from a South Indian *** methodologies were adopted during selection of study participants and collection and analysis of blood ***:It is observed that there is no difference in the levels of bilirubin(total and direct)and ALP in male and female *** is observed that there are significant differences in the levels of SGOT and *** recorded higher levels than ***:A considerable number of patients showed increased levels of total and direct bilirubin,SGOT,SGPY and *** higher levels of SGOT and SGPT among males might be due to their alcoholic habits and among men in this *** overall liver function abnormalities may be due to dietary habits,mal-absorption,nonalcoholic fatty liver,diabetes mellitus and contaminated drink.ng water.
