An Autopsy and Histopathology-based Study to Ascertain the Cause of Death of Brought Dead Cases

Background and Objectives:The cases of apparent natural deaths are encountered in the hospital casualties who are noted dead at the time of the first medical attention and as such are labeled as“Brought Dead.”These include the cases of sudden death,unexplained death,and unattended *** cause of such deaths is reported in the literature to emanate principally from the cardiovascular system,though there are some documented geographical,racial,and other *** the present study,we endeavored to detect the cause of such natural deaths in terms of the disease and the organ system involved,in the deceased individuals of the contemporary Bengali population,with cases due to obvious unnatural causes being *** and Methods:An observational,cross-sectional study with 105(n=105,male:89,female:16)study subjects of age group of 20-80 years,selected by systemic random sampling,from the brought dead subjects coming to the mortuary of the NRS Medical College and Hospital for medicolegal autopsy from April 2011 to March 2012,excluding cases having a history of the obvious unnatural *** system-wise gross examination was done,followed by tissue sampling for histopathological *** case-wise findings were tabulated and analyzed for descriptive statistics using SPSS ***:In the present study,89 cases were male(84.8%)and 16 cases were female(15.2%),which reflects a male:female ratio of 5.56:*** dead bodies are mostly recovered from the footpaths(47 cases,44%).Sixty-four(61%)cases are of known *** 54 cases out of 105(51.4%),morbid pathology is detected in the respiratory system(RS),lobar pneumonia,and cavitary pulmonary tuberculosis being the most frequent disease entity,in both ***-one years-sixty-five years is found to be the most commonly affected age group,in both *** and Conclusions:The present study shows that the most common organ system involved in brought dead cases is the RS,which is s

Interleukin 6 and Bone Erosions in Rheumatoid Arthritis in an African Hospital

Introduction: Rheumatoid arthritis (ra) is a chronic, erosive and deforming inflammatory rheumatic disease. In the era of biotherapies and the arrival of biosimilars in sub-Saharan Africa, the objective of this study was to describe plasma IL-6 variations in ra patients at Cité Verte District Hospital (Cameroon). Material and Methods: Descriptive and analytical cross-sectional study from December 1, 2021 to May 31, 2022. We included patients over 18 years old suffering from ra (ACR/EULAR 2010). Patients with an infection were not included. The data collected were age, sex, smoking status, family history, disease duration, disease activity by DAS28, CRP, rheumatoid factor, and plasma level of IL-6. Bone erosion was sought on radiography and ultrasound. Result: We included 31 patients, 25 of whom were women (80.6%). The mean age was 47.27 ± 17.97 years. Disease activity was predominantly moderate (32.3%) and severe (32.3%). Mean IL-6 level was 15.29 ± 2.36 pg/ml (extremes: 11.26 pg/ml and 20.15 pg/ml). IL-6 levels were higher in patients with a history of smoking. Similarly, IL-6 levels were higher in patients with mildly active ra in remission than in moderately and severely active ra. Mean IL-6 levels were significantly higher in patients with erosive ra (16.3 pg/ml VS 14.6 pg/ml). Conclusion: IL-6 levels were significantly elevated in men, weaned smokers and patients with bone erosions.

Uterine Fibroids Operated in the Obstetric Gynecology Department of the Mother-Child Department at the University Hospital of Tengandogo: About 109 Cases

Background: Uterine fibroid is the most common benign gynecological tumor in women of childbearing age and is common in our context. It can be discovered incidentally or by metrorrhagia. Objective: To study the epidemiological, clinical, therapeutic and prognostic aspects of uterine fibroids operated in the gynaecology and obstetrics department of the CHU-T. Patients and Method: This was a descriptive cross-sectional study including all patients operated on for uterine fibromyoma in the gynaecology-obstetrics department. The collection mode was retrospective, over a 5-year period from January 1, 2017 to December 31, 2021 in the mother-child department of the CHU-T. Data entry and analysis were carried out on a microcomputer using Epi info 7.2.5 software. Results: We collected 109 cases of uterine fibroids which represented 42.5% of the surgical activities of the gynaecology department. The average age of the patients was 38.9 years ± 7.8. Married women represented 77.1%. Salaried women accounted for 65.1%. The main reasons for consultation were uterine haemorrhage (53.1%), pelvic pain (40.4%) and hypofertility (31.2%). Ultrasound was performed in all patients to help map the fibroid nuclei. The main indication for surgery was haemorrhagic myoma (43.1%). The surgical treatment was conservative (myomectomy) in 58.7% of cases and radical (hysterectomy) in 27.4% of cases. The most frequent postoperative complication was vulvar haemorrhage and the average hospital stay was 4 days ± 1.4. Anatomical pathological examination of the surgical excision specimen carried out on 30 operated patients concluded that uterine leiomyoma was diagnosed in 100% of cases. Conclusion: Patient education for early detection, universal health insurance and cost subsidies could improve the management of this condition.

Spectroscopic study of Be-shell stars:4 Her and 88 Her

We present an optical spectroscopic study based on 41 spectra of 4 Her and 32 spectra of 88 Her, obtained over a period of 6 months. We estimate the rotational velocity of these stars from HeI lines in the blue spectral region （4000-4500 A）. We find that these stars are likely to be rotating at a fractional critical rotation of -0.80. We measure the average Ip/lc ratio to quantify the strength of the Ha line and obtain 1.63 for 4 Her and 2.06 for 88 Her. The radius of the Ha emission region is estimated to be ra/R. -5.0, assuming a Keplerian disk. These stars are thus found to be fast rotators with a relatively small Hoe emission region. We detect V/R variation of the Ha spectral line during the observed period. We re-estimate the periods for both stars and obtain a period of ,-46 d and its harmonic of 23.095 d for 4 Her, and a period of -86 d for 88 Her. As these two cases are shell stars with binaries and have low Ha EW with the emission region closer to the central star, the V/R variation and a change in period may be an effect of the binary on the circumstellar disk.

Polyoxyethylene glycerol ricinoleate(PGR) serves as a solubilizer/emulsifier that is commonly used in pharmaceutical formulations despite being associated with severe anaphylactoid hypersensitivity *** EL?(CrEL) is the most representative PGR produced from reacting ethylene oxide with castor *** help clarify the cause of side effects and potentially improve the safety of PGR-based drug delivery vehicle,we have developed separate but related analytical methods for the quantitation of CrEL and its main metabolites,glycerol ethoxylate(GE) and ricinoleic acid(ra).Since CrEL and GE are highly disperse mixtures of polymers that are not amenable to analysis by conventional liquid chromatographytandem mass spectrometry(LC-MS/MS),we used liquid chromatography-triple-quadrupole-time-of-flight mass spectrometry(LC-Q-TOF MS) combined with product ion data acquisition by MSALLand sequential window acquisition of all theoretical fragments mass spectrometry(SWATH MS),respectively to perform the *** contrast,ra is a single molecular entity that could be readily analyzed using conventional LC-HR MS/*** of specific fragment ions for CrEL,GE,ra and their internal standards enabled a precise quantitation of such a complex analytes system in rat plasma after a single and simple sample preparation *** validation indicated linearity for CrEL,GE and ra over the concentration ranges 0.2~20.0 μg/mL,0.1~10.0 μg/mL and 0.1~20.0 μg/m L,respectively with satisfactory results for other validation parameters.A subsequent pharmacokinetic study involving single intravenous 200 mg/kg injections of CrEL to rats showed the methods enable comprehensive and high throughput quantitation of CrEL and its metabolites in a biological *** combination of assays provides effective application in investigating the cause of the hypersensitivity reaction of PGR and potentially to improve its safety for using as a vehicle in drug formulations.

Extracellular sulfatase-2(Sulf-2)influences receptor-ligand binding and subsequent signaling by chemokines and growth factors,yet Sulf-2 remains unexplored in inflammatory cytokine signaling in the context of rheumatoid arthritis(ra).In the present study,we characterized Sulf-2 expression in ra and investigated its potential role in TNF-α-induced synovial inflammation using primary human ra synovial fibroblasts(raSFs).Sulf-2 expression was significantly higher in serum and synovial tissues from patients with ra and in synovium and serum from hTNFtg *** sequencing analysis of TNF-α-stimulated raSFs showed that Sulf-2 siRNA modulated~2500 genes compared to scrambled *** Pathway Analysis of RNA sequencing data identified Sulf-2 as a primary target in fibroblasts and macrophages in *** blot,ELISA,and qRT‒PCR analyses confirmed that Sulf-2 knockdown reduced the TNF-α-induced expression of ICAM1,VCAM1,CAD11,PDPN,CCL5,CX3CL1,CXCL10,and *** studies identified the protein kinase C-delta(PKCδ)and c-Jun N-terminal kinase(JNK)pathways as key in the TNF-α-mediated induction of proteins related to cellular adhesion and *** of Sulf-2 abrogated TNF-α-induced raSF ***-2 knockdown with siRNA and inhibition by OKN-007 suppressed the TNF-α-induced phosphorylation of PKCδand JNK,thereby suppressing the nuclear translocation and DNA binding activity of the transcription factors AP-1 and NF-κBp65 in human ***,Sulf-2 expression positively correlated with the expression of TNF receptor 1,and coimmunoprecipitation assays demonstrated the binding of these two proteins,suggesting they exhibit crosstalk in TNF-α*** study identified a novel role of Sulf-2 in TNF-αsignaling and the activation of ra synoviocytes,providing the rationale for evaluating the therapeutic targeting of Sulf-2 in preclinical models of ra.

本文力图填补一个中国当代艺术研究的空白,这个空白是保罗·葛思谛(paul Gladston)指出来的,即尽管大量的研究关注了中国现当代艺术与西方艺术的关系,但思考文化翻译在中国现当代艺术的生产和接受中的作用的针对性研究相对较少。“文化翻译”(cultural translation)是一个新兴的跨学科研究主题。不过,对于文化翻译尚不存在一种被普遍接受的定义,并且还没有拥有其经营的具体研究实例来证实。但是笔者认为,文化翻译的概念不仅是一种有效的概念工具,而且是阐明我们目前全球化的环境下的跨文化交流最合适的概念工具。为了证明上述判断,本文一方面试图澄清这个概念的内涵;另一方面,本文进行了有效的案例分析,即通过对两位著名的中国当代艺术家——徐冰和谷文达的作品的分析,试图找出文化翻译在中国当代艺术创作中的作用。具体说来,本文按照如下论证逻辑展开：首先,在导论中介绍关于本研究的背景和目的,说明本论文的总体框架,并且提出本研究的不足和所在顾虑。这是本文第一章的内容。接下来,本文的第二章篇幅总结了文化翻译对于这一术语和概念内涵的理论争论,并且试图提出文化翻译这一术语的概念内涵。通过对这一概念的梳理笔者发现,诸多学者认可和运用文化翻译的共同点在于他们都认为这一概念有质疑所谓“西方”,“全球现代性”、民族、本土文化等看似真实的总体性(totalising)概念及它们进行的霸权叙事(hegemonic narrative)的能力。因此,使用这一概念就意味着赋予文化弱势群体的权力。本文着力论述了霍米·巴巴(Homi Bhabha)关于文化翻译的理论,因为本文立论的基础将在他的理论建构的对于文化所谓建构主义(contructivist)的看法以及他对于文化翻译在跨文化语境中的意义的重新阐析上建立。根据他的理论,文化是一种持续过渡的状态,并且他否认国家、民族或种族与文化之间的内在关系,这一否认来自于其认为文化的基本特质是混杂(hybridity)。他明确表示,文化翻译一直是文化的一种与生俱来的功能。文化翻译的结果应该是一种混合作品.巴巴教授指出,文化表达的相似性不能被理解为是相同的重复,换句话说,相同的表达手段,相同的标志,依托于不同的文化背景下,每次都会产生跟原生的文化有所不同的结果。因此,通过文化翻译产生的混合作品是展现两种文化之间的差异。此断言应该让国内众多关心中国当代艺术的真实性的中国学者和评论家放心,因为这表明了中国当代艺术不只是其从西方所引进的先例的复制。在第三章中,本文用文化翻译的理论着力分析了改革开放之后中国现当代艺术发展的若干命题。本章介绍这一时期中国艺术有关的历史情况,即随着改革开放中国开始大量得参与全球交流,中国艺术家相应地开始广泛得受到来自于西方艺术和文化的巨大影响。这种“信息爆炸”,进而推动了始于二十世纪八十年代的前卫艺术在全国爆炸似的发展和传播。本章介绍二十世纪八十年代和九十年代的主要艺术潮流,团体和相关事件,并且讨论在中国艺术从现代过渡到当代的转折。第四章是对第三章的论证延续。在本章节中,笔者将详细分析文化翻译理论是如何与中国当代艺术发展相对接的,如论及文化翻译对文化观点的含义以及诠释文化理论如何连接与中国艺术在西方的评价对中国当代艺术作品展现“中国性”的影响。同时,笔者还将介绍中西方学者之间关于这一话题的意见分歧。这些论述构成第五章案例分析的主要理论依据。在第五章中;本文以两个中国当代艺术家——徐冰、谷文达为例,分析了文化翻译在中国当代艺术中的具体呈现和表征。最后,本文得出了结论,在本文中所描述的文化翻译在中国当代艺术发展的过程中是完全有效的。
