Spastin and alsin protein interactome analyses begin to reveal key canonical pathways and suggest novel druggable targets

Developing effective and long-term treatment strategies for rare and complex neurodegenerative diseases is challenging. One of the major roadblocks is the extensive heterogeneity among patients. This hinders understanding the underlying disease-causing mechanisms and building solutions that have implications for a broad spectrum of patients. One potential solution is to develop personalized medicine approaches based on strategies that target the most prevalent cellular events that are perturbed in patients. Especially in patients with a known genetic mutation, it may be possible to understand how these mutations contribute to problems that lead to neurodegeneration. protein–protein interaction analyses offer great advantages for revealing how proteins interact, which cellular events are primarily involved in these interactions, and how they become affected when key genes are mutated in patients. This line of investigation also suggests novel druggable targets for patients with different mutations. Here, we focus on alsin and spastin, two proteins that are identified as “causative” for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and hereditary spastic paraplegia, respectively, when mutated. Our review analyzes the protein interactome for alsin and spastin, the canonical pathways that are primarily important for each protein domain, as well as compounds that are either Food and Drug Administration–approved or are in active clinical trials concerning the affected cellular pathways. This line of research begins to pave the way for personalized medicine approaches that are desperately needed for rare neurodegenerative diseases that are complex and heterogeneous.

Fracture Toughness and Microcracks on natural Apophyllite Crystals

Results on fracture toughness of natural apophyllite crystals when they were subjected to impact were presented. The morphology of the cracks and fracture has been studied. It was found that the crack formation does not show any anisotropic property and remains the same whatever may be the orientation of the crystal. The average values of the fracture toughness K//c and brittleness index, as determined from measurements of crack length, were estimated to be 0.107 g mu m** minus **3**/**2 and 4.19 mu m** minus **1**/**2 respectively for the a(100) plane. The yield strength for a(100), p(111) and C(001) planes of apophyllite crystals for lower loads is 2250, 2160 and 1840 Mpa and for higher loads is 1510, 1600 and 1430 Mpa respectively. Decomposition of Surface-Applied and Soil-Incorporated Bt Maize Leaf Litter and Cry1Ab protein During Winter Fallow in South Africa

Unintended effects of genetic modification on chemical composition of Bt maize leaf litter may have impacts on its decomposition. In most agricultural systems in South Africa, maize litter is either left on the soil surface or incorporated into the soil during tillage. A litterbag experiment, using leaf litter of three maize hybrids （DKC80-12B, DKC80-10 and DKC6-125）, was carried out at the University of Fort Hare Research Farm, South Africa, to determine the effects of genetic modification on decomposition of maize leaf litter when left on the soil surface under field conditions between July and november, the normal fallow period, in 2008. Another litterbag experiment was conducted at the University of Fort Hare Research Farm and Zanyokwe Irrigation Scheme, South Africa, using leaf ~itter of two maize hybrids genetically modified with the erylAb gene （MOnS10）, DKC75-15B and pAn6Q-3OSB, and their corresponding near isolines, CRn3505 and pAn6Q-121. The degradation of CrylAb protein in the litter, both surface-applied and soil-incorporated, was also investigated. Decomposition of Bt maize litter was similar to that of non-Bt maize litter both when applied on the surface and when incorporated into soil. Soil-incorporated litter, as well as its CrylAb protein, decomposed faster than that applied on the surface. The leaf litter C：n ratios of pAn6Q-308B and pAn6Q-121 were similar throughout the study, whereas those of DKC75-15B and CRn3505 declined by similar amounts during a 12-week period. These findings suggested that decomposition of leaf litter of Bt maize, with the MOn810 event, was not affected by maize genetic modification, and that the CrylAb protein broke down together with plant leaf litter during the winter fallow regardless of whether the litter was applied on the soil surface or incorporated into soil.

An optimized approach for estimating benzene in ambient air within an air quality monitoring network

Benzene is a carcinogenic air pollutant for which European legislation has set an annual limit and criteria for the number of fixed monitoring sites within air quality networks(AQMn).However,due to the limited number of fixed sites for benzene measurement,exposure data are *** the relationship between benzene levels and other variables monitored within an AQMn,such as nO_(2),O_(3),temperature,solar radiation,and accumulated precipitation,this study proposes an approach for estimating benzene air concentrations from the related *** the data of the aforementioned variables from23 fixed stations during 2016-2017,the proposed approach was able to forecast benzene concentration for 2018 with high confidence,providing enriched data on benzene exposure and its ***,the spatial distribution of the estimated versus the most representative benzene levels was quite ***,an artificial neural network identified the most representative fixed benzene monitoring sites within the AQMn.

Indigenous Microbial Community Structure in Rhizosphere of Chinese Kale as Afected by plant Growth-promoting Rhizobacteria Inoculation

plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria （pGpR） have been widely recognized as an important agent, especially as a biofertilizer, in agricultural systems. The objectives of this study were to select effective pGpR for Chinese kale （Brassica oleracea var. alboglabra） cultivation and to investigate the effect of their inoculation on indigenous microbial community structure. The Bacillus sp. SUT1 and pseudomonas sp. SUT19 were selected for determining the efficiency in promoting Chinese kale growth in both pot and field experiments. In the field experiment, pGpR amended with compost gave the highest yields among all treatments. The Chinese kale growth promotion may be directly affected by pGpR inoculation. The changes of microbial community structure in the rhizosphere of Chinese kale following pGpR inoculation were examined by denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis （DGGE） and principal coordinate analysis. The DGGE fingerprints of 16S rDnA amplified from total community DnA in the rhizosphere confirmed that our isolates were established in the rhizosphere throughout this study. The microbial community structures were slightly different among all the treatments, and the major changes depended on stages of plant growth. DnA sequencing of excised DGGE bands showed that the dominant species in microbial community structure in the rhizosphere were not mainly interfered by pGpR, but strongly influenced by plant development. The microbial diversity as revealed by diversity indices was not different between the pGpR-inoculated and uninoculated treatments. In addition, the rhizosphere soil had more influence on eubacterial diversity, whereas it did not affect archaebacterial and fungal diversities.

Modeling and simulation of nanoscale tri-gate MOSFETs including quantum effects

Quantum effects are predominant in tri-gate MOSFETs, so a model should be developed. For the first time, this paper presents the analytical model for quantization effects of thin film silicon tri-gate MOSFETs by using variational approach. An analytical expression of the inversion charge distribution function（ICDF） or wave function for the tri-gate MOSFETs has been obtained. This obtained ICDF is used to calculate the important device parameters, such as the inversion charge centroid and inversion charge density. The results are validated against with the simulation data.

The polycrystalline sample of LiSr2nb5O15(LSn)was prepared by a high-temperature solid state reaction *** impedance parameters were studied using an impedance analyzer in a wide range of frequencies(102-106 Hz)at different temperatures(28-500℃).nyquist plot reveals the presence of bulk effect *** bulk resistance of the compound decreases with rise in temperature which shows the negative temperature coefficient of resistance(nTCR)like a *** ac conductivity spectrum was found to obey Jonscher’s universal power *** conductivity(bulk)with temperature demonstrates that the compound exhibits Arrhenius type of electrical conductivity and the activation energy found to be 0.97 eV.
