Background:The right ventricle to pulmonary artery conduit(RVPAC)may impair right ventricular(RV)function in patients with functional single right *** of the RVPAC using a ring-reinforced end with dunked insertion into the RV through a limited ventriculotomy may reduce the impact on RV *** compared RV segmental strain between patients with a traditional RVPAC and ring-reinforced RVPAC using feature tracking cardiovascular magnetic resonance(CMR)***:Patients with CMR examinations after Stage I operation with RVPAC between 2000 and 2018 were *** mass,volumes,late gadolinium enhancement(LGE),and peak radial and circumferential strain of the 4 segments near the RVPAC insertion site were ***:The study included 71 CMR examinations in 61 patients(30 traditional RVPAC,31 ring-reinforced RVPAC).Prior to Stage II,the ring-reinforced RVPAC group had better peak radial strain and circumferential strain in 1 of 4 segments proximal to the RVPAC insertion site compared to the traditional RVPAC *** to Stage III operation,the ring-reinforced group had better peak radial and circumferential strain in 2 of 4 *** at the RVPAC insertion site was observed in 97%of patients before Stage II and 95%of patients before Stage *** type and regional strain were not associated with transplant-free survival during a median follow-up of 6.3 ***:Compared to a traditional RVPAC,the ring-reinforced RVPAC is associated with improved regional mechanics at the conduit insertion *** investigation of long-term outcomes after ring-reinforced RVPAC is warranted.

Gastrointestinal stromal tumors(GISTs) have been recognized as a biologically distinctive type of tumor,different from smooth muscle and neural tumors of the gastrointestinal *** identification of genetic aberrations in proto-oncogenes that drive the growth of GISTs is critical for improving the efficacy of cancer therapy by matching targeted drugs to specific *** into the oncogenic mechanisms of GISTs has found that these tumors frequently contain activating gene mutations in either platelet-derived growth factor receptor A(PDGFRA) or a receptor tyrosine protein associated with a mast cell growth factor receptor encoded by the KIT *** cancer subpopulations have the potential to disrupt durable patient responses to molecularly targeted therapy for GISTs,yet the prevalence and size of subpopulations remain largely *** of the cancer subpopulations that harbor low-frequency mutant alleles of target proto-oncogenes through the use of molecular genetic methods,such as polymerase chain reaction(PCR) target amplification technology,is hampered by the high abundance of wildtype alleles,which limit the sensitivity of detection of these minor mutant *** is especially true in the case of mutant tumor DNA derived "driver" and "drug-resistant" alleles that are present in the circulating cell-free tumor DNA(cfDNA) in the peripheral blood circulation of GIST ***-called "liquid biopsy" allows for the dynamic monitoring of the patients' tumor status during treatment using minimally invasive *** methodologies,such as a technology that employs a xenonucleic acid(XNA) clamping probe to block the PCR amplification of wild-type templates,have allowed improved molecular detection of these low-frequency alleles both in tissue biopsy samples and in *** new methodologies could be widely applied for minimally invasive molecular testing in the therapeutic management of GISTs.

Forced mixing to a single-phase or supersaturated solid solution(SSS)and its prerequisite microstructure evolution in immiscible systems has been a focus of research for fundamental science and practical *** the formation of SSS by shear deformation could enable a material design beyond conventional equilibrium microstructure in immiscible ***,a highly immiscible Cu-50 at.%Cr binary alloy(mixing enthalpy of∼20 kj mol^(−1))was employed to investigate the microstructure evolution and localized tendencies of SSS during severe shear *** results demonstrate the dislocation mediated microstructural refinement process in each phase of the binary alloy and the mechanisms associated with localized solute supersaturation as a function of shear *** grain refinement in the softer Cu phase occurs owing to the strain localization driving the preferential dynamic *** grain refinement of the Cr phase,however,is enabled by the progressive evolution of grain lamination,splitting,and fragmentation as a function of shear *** solute supersaturation is found to be strongly dependent on the local environments that affect the dislocation activity,including the level of microstructure refinement,the interfacial orientation relationship,the mechanical incompatibility,and the localized preferential phase *** initio simulations confirm that it is more favorable to oxidize Cr than Cu at incoherent Cu/Cr interfaces,limiting the mass transport on an incoherent *** results unveil the mechanism underpinning the non-equilibrium mass transport in immiscible systems upon severe deformation that can be applied to produce immiscible alloys with superior mechanical properties.

Background: Edge effects cause changes in bird community richness, abundance, and/or distribution within a landscape, but the avian guilds most influenced can vary among regions. Although Southeast Asia has the highest rates of deforestation and projected species loss, and is currently undergoing an explosive growth in road infrastructure, there have been few studies of the effects of forest edges on avian communities in this ***: We examined avian community structure in a dry evergreen forest in northeastern Thailand a.j.cent to a five-lane highway. We evaluated the richness and abundance of birds in 11 guilds at 24 survey points on three parallel transects perpendicular to the edge. At each point, 10-min surveys were conducted during February-August 2014 and March-August 2015. Vegetation measurements were conducted at 16 of the bird survey points and ambient noise was measured at all 24 survey ***: We found a strongly negative response to the forest edge for bark-gleaning, sallying, terrestrial, and understory insectivores and a weakly negative response for arboreal frugivore-insectivores, foliage gleaning insectivores, and raptors. Densities of trees and the percentage canopy cover were higher in the interior, and the ambient noise was lower. In contrast, arboreal nectarivore-insectivores responded positively to the forest edge, where there was a higher vegetation cover in the ground layer, a lower tree density, and a higher level of ambient ***: Planners should avoid road development in forests of high conservation value to reduce impacts on biodiversity. Where avoidance is impossible, a number of potential mitigation methods are available, but more detailed assessments of these are needed before they are applied in this region.

Polyploidy is pervasive in angiosperm evolution and plays important roles in adaptation and ***,polyploid groups are understudied due to complex sequence homology,challenging genome assembly,and taxonomic ***,we study adaptive divergence in taxonomically complex eyebrights(Euphrasia),where recent divergence,phenotypic plasticity,and hybridization blur species *** focus on three closely related tetraploid species with contrasting ecological preferences that are sympatric on Fair Isle,a small isolated island in the British *** a common garden experiment,we show a genetic component to the morphological differences present between these *** wholegenome sequencing and a novel k-mer approach we call“Tetmer”,we demonstrate that the species are of allopolyploid origin,with a sub-genome divergence of approximately 5%.Using2 million SNPs,we show sub-genome homology across species,with a very low sequence divergence characteristic of recent *** genetic variation is broadly structured by species,with clear divergence of Fair Isle heathland Euphrasia micrantha,while grassland Euphrasia arctica and coastal Euphrasia foulaensis are more closely ***,we show that tetraploid Euphrasia is a system of allopolyploids of postglacial species divergence,where adaptation to novel environments may be conferred by old variants rearranged into new genetic lineages.

A 67-year-old woman underwent an orthotopic liver transplantation for end stage liver disease secondary to chronic autoimmune hepatitis. She developed sudden massive hematochezia on post-operative day 23 with hemodynamic compromise. The source of hemorrhage was found at colonoscopy after careful irrigation and inspection to be a dieulafoy lesion situated just proximal to the anorectal junction. Hemostasis was achieved with epinephrine injection and thermal coagulation.
