Rhus coriaria L. increases serum apolipoprotein-A1 and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol levels： a double-blind placebo-controlled randomized clinical trial

Background： Lipid-lowering effect ofRhus coriaria L. （Rhus） has been investigated in multiple animal stud- ies with promising results. Nonetheless, its clinical efficacy has not been adequately examined. Objective： The aim of this study was to evaluate the lipid-lowering effects of Rhus among patients with hyperlipidemia. Design, setting, participants and interventions： The study was designed as a two-arm, double-blind placebo-controlled randomized clinical trial, using a parallel design. Eighty patients with primary hyper- lipidemia were randomly assigned to receive Rhus capsules or placebo for 6 weeks. Main outcome measures： The serum lipid levels, apolipoprotein-A1 （Apo-A1） and apolipoprotein-B （Apo-B） were measured. Results： Mean serum high-density lipoprotein cholesterol （HDL-C） and Apo-Al levels were significantly increased in the Rhus group, compared with the placebo group, after 6 weeks of intervention （P= 0.001）. The analysis of covariance test including age, gender, body mass index （BMI）, and smoking as co-variables revealed that the increase in HDL-C and Apo-A1 levels remained significant, and increases in HDL-C were dependent on the increase in Apo-A1 levels. No significant difference was observed between Rhus and placebo groups in terms of mean reductions in total cholesterol, low-density lipopro- tein cholesterol and triglyceride levels; however, more significant improvement was observed among obese patients （BMI≥ 30 kg/m^2）. Conclusion： The study showed significant increases in HDL-C and Apo-Al levels in response to Rhus sup- plementation in patients with hyperlipidemia. Trial registration： *** ID： NCT02295293.

Although much has been learned about the fibrillization kinetics, structure and toxicity of amyloid proteins, the properties of amyloid fibrils beyond the saturation phase are often perceived as chemically and biologically inert, despite evidence suggesting otherwise. To fill this knowledge gap, we examined the physical and biological characteristics of human islet amyloid polypeptide(IAPP) fibrils that were aged up to two months. Not only did aging decrease the toxicity of IAPP fibrils, but the fibrils also sequestered fresh IAPP and suppressed their toxicity in an embryonic zebrafish model. The mechanical properties of IAPP fibrils in different aging stages were probed by atomic force microscopy and sonication, which displayed comparable stiffness but age-dependent fragmentation, followed by self-assembly of such fragments into the largest lamellar amyloid structures reported to date. The dynamic structural and toxicity profiles of amyloid fibrils and plaques suggest that they play active, long-term roles in cell degeneration and may be a therapeutic target for amyloid diseases.

The amyloid aggregation of peptides and proteins is a hallmark of neurological disorders and type 2 *** islet amyloid polypeptide(IAPP),co-secreted with insulin by pancreaticβ-cells,plays dual roles in both glycemic control and the pathology of type 2 *** IAPP can activate the NLRP3 inflammasome and modulate cellular autophagy,apoptosis and extracellular matrix metabolism,no data is available concerning intracellular protein expression upon exposure to the *** surprisingly,how intracellular protein expression is modulated by nanoparticle inhibitors of protein aggregation remains entirely *** this study,we first examined the changing proteomes ofβTC6,a pancreaticβ-cell line,upon exposure to monomeric,oligomeric and fibrillar IAPP,and detailed cellular protein expression rescued by graphene quantum dots(GQDs),an IAPP *** found that 29 proteins were significantly dysregulated by the IAPP species,while majority of these proteins were nucleotide-binding ***,our liquid chromatography tandem-mass spectrometry,fluorescence quenching,helium ion microscopy,cytotoxicity and discreet molecular dynamics simulations data revealed a remarkable capacity of GQDs in regulating aberrant protein expression through H-bonding and hydrophobic interactions,pointing to nanomedicine as a new frontier against human amyloid diseases.

We present structural,magnetic and optical characteristics of Zn_（1-x）TM_xTe（TM = Mn,Fe,Co,Ni and x = 6.25%）,calculated through Wien2 k code,by using full potential linearized augmented plane wave（FP-LAPW） *** optimization of the crystal structures have been done to compare the ferromagnetic（FM） and antiferromagnetic（AFM） ground state energies,to elucidate the ferromagnetic phase stability,which further has been verified through the formation and cohesive ***,the estimated Curie temperatures T_c have demonstrated above room temperature ferromagnetism（RTFM） in Zn_（1-x）TM_xTe（TM =Mn,Fe,Co,Ni and x= 6.25%）.The calculated electronic properties have depicted that Mn- and Co-doped ZnTe behave as ferromagnetic semiconductors,while half-metallic ferromagnetic behaviors are observed in Fe- and Ni-doped *** presence of ferromagnetism is also demonstrated to be due to both the p-d and s-d hybridizations between the host lattice cations and TM *** calculated band gaps and static real dielectric constants have been observed to vary according to Penn＇s *** evaluated band gaps lie in near visible and ultraviolet regions,which make these materials suitable for various important device applications in optoelectronic and spintronic.

Electrospinning of Nylon-6,6 Solutions into Nanofibers: Rheology and Morphology Relationships

The relationship between the rheological properties of nylon-6,6 solutions and the morphology of their electrospun nanofibers was established. The viscosity of nylon-6,6 in formic acid （90%） was measured in the concentration range of 5 wt%-25 wt% using a programmable viscometer. Electrospinning of nylon-6,6 solutions was carried out under controlled parameters. The chemical structure, morphology and thermal properties of the obtained nanofibers were investigated using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy （FTIR）, scanning electron microscopy （SEM） and differential scanning calorimetry （DSC）, respectively, Entanglement concentration （ce） was found to be 15 wt% and a power law relationship between specific viscosity and solution concentration was observed with exponents of 2.0 and 3.3 for semi-dilute unentangled （c 〈 ce） and semi-dilute entangled （c 〉 ce） regimes, respectively. The diameter and uniformity of the nanofibers were found to be dependent on the viscosity. Moreover, the average diameter of electrospun nanofibers was found to be dependent on zero shear rate viscosity and normalized concentration （c/ce） in a power law relationship with exponents of 0.298 and 0.816, respectively. For nylon-6,6 solutions, the entanglement concentration （ce = 15 wt%） provides the threshold viscosity required for the formation of a stable polymeric jet during electrospinning and producing uniform beadless fibers. For concentrations less than ce, beaded fibers with some irregularities are formed. DSC analysis showed an increase in crystallinity of all electrospun samples compared to original polymer. Furthermore; Based on FTIR spectroscopy, α phase is dominant in electrospun nanofibers and minor amount offland ）,phases is also available.
