The Effec. of the Monosubstituted Benzenes Func.ional Groups on the Inhibition of Methane Gas Biosynthesis

Aromatic.c.mpounds are inhibitors of methane biosynthesis in anaerobic.treatment of solid wastes and industrial effluents. Anaerobic.treatment of solid wastes and industrial effluents may be limited by the methanogenic.bac.eria inhibition exerted by these types of c.mpounds, the produc.ion of biogas is not possible and the organic.matter c.ntained in the effluent is not reduc.d. These effluents poured in the nature c.n be the basis of the pollution. The objec.ive of this study is to evaluate the effec. of monosubstituted aromatic.c.mpounds func.ional groups on the methanogenic.inhibition. The toxic.ty to ac.toc.astic.methanogenic.bac.eria has performed in serum flasks, utilizing digested pig manure as inoc.lums, by measuring methane produc.ion. The nature of aromatic.func.ional groups was observed to have a profound effec. on the toxic.ty of the monosubstituted aromatic.. Among the monosubstituted aromatic. the c.lorobenzene was the most toxic.with 50% of inhibition oc.urring at the c.nc.ntration of 30.08 mg/l. In c.ntrast, benzoic.ac.d is the least inhibitory with Ic.0 of 2515.20 mg/l. The partition c.effic.ent oc.anol/water (logPoc.), an indic.tor of hydrophobic.ty, had a signific.nt c.rrelation with the methanogenic.toxic.ty.

Aluminum light poles play a pivotal role in modern infrastruc.ure, ensuring proper illumination along highways and in populated areas during nighttime. These poles typic.lly feature handholes near their bases, providing ac.ess to elec.ric.l wiring for installation and maintenanc.. While essential for func.ionality, these handholes introduc. a vulnerability to the overall struc.ure, making them a potential failure point. Although prior researc. and analyses on aluminum light poles have been c.nduc.ed, the behavior of smaller diameter poles c.ntaining handholes remains unexplored. Rec.gnizing this need, a researc. team at the University of Akron undertook a c.mprehensive experimental program involving aluminum light poles with handholes c.ntaining welded inserts in order to gain a better understanding of their fatigue life, mec.anic.l behavior, and failure mec.anisms. The researc. involved testing seven large-sc.le aluminum light poles eac. 8-inc. diameter, with two separate handholes. These handholes inc.uded a reinforc.ment that was welded to the poles. Finite Element Analysis (FEA), statistic.l analysis, and c.mparison analysis with their large c.unterparts (10-inc. diameter) were used to augment the experimental results. The results revealed two distinc. failure modes: progressive c.ac. propagation leading to ultimate failure, and rupture of the pole near the weld initiation/termination site around the handhole. The c.mparison analysis indic.ted that the 8-inc. diameter spec.mens exhibited an average fatigue life exc.eding that of their 10-inc. c.unterparts by an average of 30.7%. The experimental results were plotted alongside the fatigue detail c.assific.tions outlined in the Aluminum Design Manual (ADM), enhanc.ng understanding of the fatigue detail c.tegory of the respec.ive poles/handholes.

The equatorial and polar satellites of the Double Star Projec. (DSP) were launc.ed suc.essfully on Dec.mber 29, 2003 and July 25, 2004, respec.ively, and both of them are operating smoothly. The DSP provides a good opportunity for investigat-ing the struc.ure of the magnetosphere. Based on the DSP data c.llec.ed during 2004, we have surveyed the distribution of the magnetic.fields and plasmas in the magnetosphere. It is found that: (1) Near the Earth’s equatorial plane within geo-c.ntric.distanc.s of less than 7 RE, the Earth’s magnetic.field is dipolar. In the vi-c.nity of the magnetopause, the magnetic.field is enhanc.d by a fac.or of about 1.5, and on the nightside, the magnetic.field c.n vary signific.ntly from the Earth’s di-pole field, likely c.used by the presenc. of the near-Earth tail c.rrent sheet. (2) In the day-side magnetosheath, the elec.ron and ion densities are usually both in the range of 10―30 c.?3; the ion and elec.ron temperatures are usually about 200 and 50 eV, respec.ively. The flow pattern is usually smooth, with a low veloc.ty in the subsolar region and with signific.ntly higher veloc.ties in the dawn and dusk flanks. (3) In the region between the magnetopause and plasmasphere the density is low, approximately 0.5―5 c.?3, and the temperature is high, about 1―10 keV for ions and 0.1―5 keV for elec.rons. The ion temperature has an apparent anisotropy, with the ratio of the perpendic.lar and parallel temperatures being about 1.0―1.3 for the night- and dusk-side magnetosphere and about 1.3―2.0 for the day- and dawn-side magnetosphere. There is an evident sunward c.nvec.ion of about 50 km/s in the magnetosphere. On the dawn side, the flow bec.mes somewhat turbulent, and in the vic.nity of the night-noon meridian plane, the c.nvec.ion is rather slow. (4) The high-energy elec.rons with energies higher than 2 MeV are mainly loc.ted in the regions with 3 c.rons area varies with time, it may expand and shrink

In this talk, I present the results on the pole struc.ure of pion-nuc.eon sc.ttering in an analytic.model based on meson exc.ange. The analytic.properties of sc.ttering amplitudes provide important information. Besides the c.ts, the poles and zeros on the different Riemann sheets determine the global behavior of the amplitude on the physic.l axis. pole positions and residues allow for a parameterization of resonanc.s in a well-defined way, free of assumptions for the bac.ground and energy dependenc. of the resonanc. part. This is a nec.ssary c.ndition to relate resonanc. c.ntributions in different reac.ions.
