In this paper, the effect of MMT on the induction period of unleaded motor gasoline was studied, the manganese concentration, storage period of MMT-blended gasoline and environmental variables such as temperature and radiation intensity were considered to be main factors affecting the induction period of gasoline,when MMT-blended gasoline was exposed to light. It is found from experiments that the addition of MMT can improve the induction period of gasoline that is shielded from light, and reduce the induction period remarkably,when the gasoline is exposed to light. However, the radiation intensity is proved to be the leading influencing factor among all the environmental variables investigated.

Background: Nosocomial infections are some of public health problems globally and continue to be increased regardless of the hospital’s efforts on infection control measures and are contributing significantly to morbidity, mortality and cost. The absence of infection control policies, guidelines and trained professionals also contributes to the magnitude of the problem. The aim of this study was to assess the Knowledge, attitude and practices towards infection control measures among healthcare workers at Old Mutare Hospital. Methods: A cross-sectional survey design was used to acquire information. A purposive sampling method was used to select 22 nurses, 15 nurse Aids and 2 laboratory technicians (Lab Tech). A self-administered questionnaire with four components addressing demographic data, knowledge, attitudes and practices was used to collect data that was completed by a checklist. Results: The study findings revealed a poor knowledge of infection control measures among the nurse’s aide. The attitude and practices among participants were impartially good in all variables. The participants had scored over 50% towards their attitude and their practices on infection control. A significant statistical difference was found between the professional status of the participants and the ability to explain how one can get Hospital Acquired Infections (HAIs) and awareness of infection control programs in their hospital (rs = 0.640, 0.645) with P Conclusion: Despite of having a fair attitude and practice towards infection control, the participants had presented poor knowledge;therefore, it had been recommended that in service training and workshop should be planned by the administration to update their knowledge and attain full compliance towards their practice.

Background:Anthropogenic disturbance can negatively affect an animal's energy budget by evoking movement *** research focuses mainly on immediate displacement as a disturbance effect,since this can be easily observed in the field. However, effects on movement over longer timescales are poorly examined and it is largely unknown if and to what extent they reflect immediate ***-term responses could for example be larger than immediate responses if birds, after disturbance, return to the original location and thereby travel twice the immediate disturbed distance. Methods:We combined GPS tracking data with observational data to quantify the effects of anthropogenic (air force and walkers) and non-anthropogenic disturbances on distances travelled by roosting Eurasian Oystercatchers (Haematopus ostralegus) during the non-breeding season. We compared immediate displacement after a disturbance with distance travelled during the entire high tide period (longer-term response), while accounting for environmental ***,we calculated energy expenditure due to disturbance based on observed disturbance ***:Disturbance resulted in an immediate displacement response of ~200 m (median).Air force disturbances tended to yield larger immediate responses than walker and,especially,than non-anthropogenic ***-term responses and immediate responses were approximately similar,suggesting that,over longer timescales,spatial disturbance effects in the study area remain confined to immediate ***,disturbances were infrequent (0.17 disturbances per bird per hour) and most disturbances were of natural origin (62%).Consequently, anthropogenic disturbance of roosting oystercatchers in the study area on average costs 0.08% of the daily energy expenditure. Actinides co-precipitation is currently investigated in order to synthesize solid solutions of actinides mixed oxalates. This paper deals with the thermodynamic and kinetic study of the precipitation of uranium-neodymium oxalate system. Based on an analysis of the theories developed in the literature, a new expression for the determination of the supersaturation ratio for the solid solutions is presented. An experimental study of the nucleation kinetics was performed on the mixed uranium-neodymium oxalates. Homogeneous and heterogeneous primary nucleation laws are obtained using a specific stopped flow apparatus. The experimental results are consistent with the classical behaviour of nucleation phenomena. The values of the kinetic parameters for the solid solution point out that the formation of the uraniumneodymium mixed oxalates is kinetically favoured compared with the simple uranium and neodymium oxalates.

在热带地区,将住宅融入到周围的自然环境构成了一个房子的灵魂,从而创造出界限模糊及中立的空间。全球变暖以一定比例影响着热带国家,我们需要做好准备以应对气候变化带来的冲击并建造出能长期生存地更具弹性的设计。迫在眉睫的各种因素影响着大众住宅,为了弹性地适应当地的气候环境和条件,应该选择社交性还是私密性的住宅成为了迫切需要研究的问题。由于缺乏应对之策,问题丛生。塞舌尔群岛的传统住宅无疑是塞舌尔群岛恶劣环境中的佼佼者。然而,住宅领域广受赞誉的高技术标准及全球化与原生的专利化基础息息相关。在塞舌尔,比起重视上述的传统建筑,公众往往更推崇技术标准及设计特点。这导致：他们建造的某些住宅无法很好地应对当地气候,或者与当地文化格格不入。塞舌尔群岛正在经历一贯的炎热气候,而一部分缺乏传统建筑特征,混合了外来设计手法的国际式建筑正慢慢淘汰现在备受赞赏的建筑模式。为了研究住宅的环境效益,本研究尝试归纳总结设计领域而向自然与住宅之间关系的“应变理”它建立了气候影响建筑形式及构造两大原则参数的基础。本研究主要是关于塞舌尔群岛现有住宅的发展;尽管如此,关于住宅的研究及未来的提案都必须保留传统建筑特点。所有外来的设计都应该尊重特定地方的文化和传统而不是轻率地强行植入。本研究的主要研究方法包括针对同样为夏季气候应变情况的案例分析及评价。当地的一些社区及政府组织也参与了这项研究。本研究对保留区内的居民进行了调查问卷,所收集回来的调查结果经过认真地分析并撰写成最终的调查结果及建议。本研究的目的主要是通过研究住宅设计中气候应对的原则来确定关于改善住宅设计及建造环境的假设,从而开发出一种新颖的、组合式的、可以同时保留传统建筑特点的热带住宅,这样既回应了上述提到的缺点,也提供了一套在变化莫测的热带气候中如何适应气候的解决方案。

Farmers’ Knowledge, Attitude and Practices on Pesticide Safety: A Case Study of Vegetable Farmers in Mount-Bamboutos Agricultural Area, Cameroon

Pesticides are commonly used in Cameroon for farming purposes, especially in the Mount-Bamboutos agricultural area. This study aimed to evaluate the basic knowledge, attitude and practices among pesticide users in the said area in view of assessing the level of safety and health risks due to pesticide exposures or contaminations. Data was collected through survey study on pesticide knowledge, marketing, attitude and practices on spraying skills, toxicity, health issues, management, first aids and literacy of operators. Results revealed that both male and female were involved in agricultural practices with their ages varying from 21 to 60 years. The farmers were generally of low education level. The main crops cultivated are leafy and fruit vegetables, tubers, cereals, roots and fruits. Half the participants purchased pesticides from the neighborhood. Ethylene bis-dithiocarbamate (EBDC) and cypermethrin were the two main pesticides used by the farmers. Seventy percent (70%) of pesticide containers were thrown in the environment after usage. A certain portion of the sprayers (12%) did not know the existence of residues after application while, as routes of penetration up to 42% pointed the mouth as the route for pesticides into human body. Very few respondents (3%) identified the intervention hospital in case of pesticide poisoning. This study highlights poor knowledge on the use and handling of pesticides in Mount-Bamboutos agricultural area. Sensitization campaigns should be put in place, involving different stakeholders, to train farmers in pesticide risks and management.

Objective: To evaluate the phytochemical constituents, antimicrobial and antioxidant activities of the extracts of Distemonanthus benthamianus(D. benthamianus) stem bark and Solanum torvum(S. torvum) fruit which have been used as traditional medicinal herbs in Gabon. Methods: Plant extracts were subjected to a qualitative study(phytochemical screening) and a quantitative(dosing) study of secondary metabolites. Antioxidant activity was tested by 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl and 2,2'-azino-bis 3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid assay. Bacteria and fungi susceptibility tests were performed on Mueller Hinton medium and solid Sabouraud, respectively, using the diffusion method, while minimum inhibitory concentration, minimum fungicidal concentration and minimum bactericidal concentration were evaluated by microdilution ***: The total phenol and tannin contents were significantly higher in the water-ethanol extract compared to the other extracts of D. benthamianus and S. torvum. The water-ethanol and water-acetone extracts showed significantly higher antioxidant activity than the aqueous extracts of the two medicinal plants. However, the extracts presented weak antioxidant activities compared to standards(Vitamin C, BHA). The water-acetone and water-ethanol extracts of S. torvum showed the highest antimicrobial activity against Bacillus cereus LMG 13569 BHI, Shigella dysenteriae 5451 CIP, Shigella dysenteriae and Neisseria gonorrhoeae. Conclusions: Our results show that D. benthamianus and S. torvum can be promising sources of natural products with potential antimicrobial and antioxidant activities.

The incidence of twin pregnancies, has increased due to assisted reproductive technologies [1]. We note a doubling between 1970 and 2010 from less than 8‰ to nearly 16‰ of pregnancies (Pison et al., 2014;Pison et al., 2015) in developed countries [2] and 17‰ to 20‰ in sub-Saharan Africa. Monozygotic twins are the product of fertilization of a single egg by a single sperm, with the egg splitting into two within the first few days after fertilization. If the division takes place after the 8th day, the pregnancy is mono-chorionic mono-amniotic (less 1% of cases of monozygotic pregnancies) and represents 1 in 30,000 pregnancies. It is the development of two fetuses within the same amniotic sac, representing the rarest type of twin pregnancy (1% of monozygotic twin pregnancies) but being the one with the highest fetal and maternal morbidity. The main complication feared is coiling and knots of the umbilical cords responsible for abnormal heartbeat, fetal suffering and eventual fetal death. We report the case of in utero fetal death of twins from a mono choral mono amniotic pregnancy secondary to knots and coiling of the cord in order to discuss the diagnostic and therapeutic aspects.

Colorectal cancer(CRC)is the second most common cause of cancer-related death worldwide and places a major economic burden on the global health care *** time frame for development from premalignant to malignant disease typically spans 10-15 years,and this latent period provides an ideal opportunity for early detection and intervention to improve patient ***,early diagnosis of CRC is hampered by a lack of suitable non-invasive biomarkers that are clinically or economically acceptable for populationbased *** blood-based protein biomarkers for early detection of CRC are therefore urgently *** success of clinical biomarker discovery and validation studies is critically dependent on understanding and adjusting for potential experimental,analytical,and biological factors that can interfere with the robust interpretation of *** this review we outline some important considerations for research groups undertaking biomarker research with exemplars from our *** of experimental strategies to minimise the potential effects of these problems will facilitate the identification of panels of biomarkers with the sensitivity and specificity required for the development of successful tests for the early detection and surveillance of CRC.
