As diabetes becomes more prevalent throughout the United States, there is an increased demand for healthcare providers and healthcare resources. Pharmacists have started to collaborate with primary care providers, and through this collaboration, pharmacists are able to augment patient care and provide additional resources to diabetic patients. This essay reviews the effect of one clinic that incorporates pharmacist interventions as an addition to established patient care teams, and evaluates the effect that the pharmacist interventions have on patient hemoglobin A1C%. While this essay provides data to show the positive benefits of pharmacist intervention on diabetes patients and A1C% goals, additional data and research are needed to demonstrate how pharmacists are a necessary addition to patient care teams.

AIM： To determine factors associated with fibrosis progression in hepatitis C virus （HCV）-infected patients without significant initial pathological lesions. METHODS： Seventy six untreated HCV-infected patients with initially normal liver as defined by a Knodell score ≤ 3, with 2 liver biopsies and detectable HCVRNA were included. Markers of fibrosis progression were assessed. RESULTS： Median duration of infection and time between paired biopsies was 13 （95% CI： 1-28） and 4 （95% CI： 2-16） years respectively. Alaninetransaminase （ALT） activity was normal in 43.4% of cases. 50% demonstrated progression of the necroinflammation and 34% of fibrosis after a median time evolution of 4 years （95% CI： 2-16）. The median difference in the necro-inflammation and fibrosis score between biopsies was low, 1.5 and 0.0 respectively. Univariate analysis showed there was no difference between fibrosis activity or evolution according to genotype or viral load. A higher fibrosis progression （P = 0.03） was observed in patients with body mass index （BMI）〉 25. Fibrosis progression correlated with the time interval between biopsies （P = 0.01）. A significant progression of activity （1.7 vs 0.4, P 〈 0.05） or fibrosis （0.9 vs 0.0, P 〈 0.01） was observed in patients with elevated ALT. There was a significant correlation between activity progression and fibrosis progression（P = 0.003）. Multivariate analysis demonstrated that fibrosis progression was associated with elevated ALT, BMI 〉 25 and the time interval between 2 biopsies. CONCLUSION： There is no fibrosis progression in 66% of patients without significant initial histopathological lesion. Fibrosis progression is associated with elevated ALT and BMI 〉 25.

Impact of Climate Change and Variability on Wheat and Corn Production in Buenos Aires, Argentina

From the Global Historical Climate Network (GHCN-V3), monthly mean summer (DJF) temperature (1856-2012) and total precipitation (1861-2012) are analyzed in correlation with four climate modes and sunspot number to better understand the role of teleconnections on Buenos Aires’ (Argentina) climate. A general increase in temperature and precipitation was observed. Temperature has increased by about 1.8°C and precipitation has increased by about 300 mm in the past century and a half. Indices of Arctic Oscillation (AO), Pacific North American (PNA), Antarctic Oscillation (AAO), and El Nino-Southern Oscillation (ENSO) are evaluated to study their effects on wheat and corn production and export. AO and PNA show strong relationships with precipitation and temperature received. AAO and ENSO show strong negative correlations with precipitation patterns and weak correlations with temperature. Sunspot Number shows a positive correlation with temperature. ENSO phases are strongly linked with the wheat and corn production and export;during El Nino Buenos Aires tends to experience extremely wet summer weather, causing soggy fields and extremely dry summer weather during La Nina causing drought. Both of these conditions result in reducing wheat and corn production and export.

Microservice architecture is an architectural style, which allows structuring software as a suite of fine-grained services, each running in its process and deployed independently. Knowing the strengths and limitations of this architectural style, the development team is responsible to select the appropriate technologies which guarantee the consistency between the implementation and the design. This study proposes an evaluation framework which consists of a set of evaluation criteria that are architectural patterns recognized by the community and covering all the implementation aspects of software;and an evaluation function which combines these criteria for a given technology to determine its compatibility score with the microservice style, while taking into account the specific requirements of the software under development. Applying this approach to Spring Boot and JAVA EE technologies, we found that Spring Boot scores 96.3% while JAVA EE scores 44.4%. These scores reflect the effort required to conform software with the principles of this development style.

FePt/Ag)n nano-multilayers were deposited on MgO(100) single crystal with laser ablation and then sub-jected to annealing. FePt L10 grains with (001) texture and a large perpendicular magnetic anisotropy constant Ku of the order of 106 J/m3 were formed. A thick Ag layer is found to be favorable for improving the (111) preferential orientation and decreasing the dispersion of the easy axis for magnetiza-tion. The measurement of time decay of magnetization gave rise to an activation volume as small as 6×10-25 m3, showing the promising perspective of being the recording medium for future high density perpendicular recording.

Analysis and Prediction of the COVID-19 Pandemic in Senegal Using the SIR Model

In this study, the mathematical SIR model (Susceptible-Infected-Recovered (cured and deceased)) was applied to the case of Senegal during the first two waves of the COVID-19 pandemic. During this period, from March 1, 2020, to March 30, 2021, the transmission and recovery rates as well as the number of reproduction were calculated and analyzed for the impact of the decisions taken by the Senegalese government. In both waves, the variation of the basic reproduction number as a function of time, with values below one towards the end of each study period, confirms the success of the Senegalese government in controlling the epidemic. The results show that the solution of mandatory mask-wearing is the best decision to counter the spread of the disease. Indeed, the mean number of reproduction is 2.11 in the first wave, and the second wave has a lower mean value of 1.23, while the decisions are less restrictive during this latter wave. Also, a short-term prediction model (about 4 months) was validated on the second wave. The validation criteria of this model reveal a good match between the results of the simulated model and the COVID-19 data reported via the Ministry of Health, Solidarity, and Social Action of Senegal.
