The sustainability of rice production continues to be a subject of uncertainty and inquiry attributed to shifts in climatic conditions. In light of the impending climate change crisis and the high labor and water costs accompanying it, direct-seeded rice(DSR) is unquestionably one of the most practical solutions. Despite its resource and climate-friendly advantages, early maturing rice faces weed competitiveness and seedling establishment challenges. Resolving these issues is crucial for promoting its wider adoption among farmers, presenting it as a more effective sustainable rice cultivation method globally. Diverse traditional and contemporary breeding methods are employed to mitigate the limitations of the DSR approach, leveraging advanced techniques such as speed breeding and genome editing. Focusing on key traits like mesocotyl length elongation, early seedling vigor, root system architecture, and weed competitiveness holds promise for transformative improvements in DSR adaptation at a broader scale within farming communities. This review aims to summarize how these features contribute to increased crop production in DSR conditions and explore the research efforts focusing on enhancing DSR adaptation through these traits. Emphasizing the pivotal role of these game-changing traits in DSR adaptation, our analysis sheds light on their potential transformative impact and offers valuable insights for advancing DSR practices.

We report atmospheric turbulence parameters, namely atmospheric seeing, tilt-anisoplanatic angle(θ_0) and coherence time(Τ_0), measured under various sky conditions, at Vainu Bappu Observatory in Kavalur. Bursts of short exposure images of selected stars were recorded with a high-speed, frame-transfer CCD mounted on the Cassegrain focus of a newly commissioned 1.3 m telescope. The estimated median seeing is ≈ 1.85 " at wavelength of ～ 600 nm, the image motion correlation between different pairs of stars is ～44% for θ0≈ 36" and mean Τ_0 is ≈ 2.4 ms. This work was motivated by the design considerations and expected performance of an adaptive optics system that is currently being planned for the telescope.

We developed a tip-tilt system to compensate the turbulence induced image motion for the 1.3 m telescope at Vainu Bappu Observatory,at *** instrument is designed to operate at the visible wavelength band(480-700 nm)with a field of view of 1′×1′.The tilt corrected images have demonstrated up to ≈57% improvement in image resolution and a corresponding peak intensity increase by a factor of ≈2.8.A closed-loop correction bandwidth of ≈26 Hz has been achieved with on-sky tests and the root mean square motion of the star image has been reduced by a factor of ~*** results are consistent with theoretical and numerical predictions of wave-front aberrations caused by atmospheric turbulence and image quality improvement expected from a real-time control *** this paper,we present details of the instrument design,laboratory calibration studies and quantify its performance on the telescope.

The aim of the present work is fabrication of dual cross linked sodium alginate(SA)/montmorillonite(MMT) microbeads as a potential drug vehicle for extended release of curcumin(CUR). The microbeads were prepared using in situ ion-exchange followed by simple ionotropic gelation technique. The developed beads were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR), differential scanning calorimetry(DSC), thermogravimetric analysis(TGA), X-ray diffraction(X-RD) and scanning electron microscopy(SEM). The effect of MMT on encapsulation efficiency of CUR and intercalation kinetics was investigated. Dynamic swelling study and in vitro release study were investigated in simulated intestinal fluid(pH 7.4) and simulated gastric fluid(pH 1.2) at 37 ℃. Results suggested that both the swelling and in vitro release studies were influenced by the pH of test media, which might be suitable for intestinal drug delivery. The release mechanism was analyzed by fitting the release data into KorsmeyerPeppas equation.

The synthesis and spectroscopic characterization of ruthenium complexes（R-l to R-8） of the type[Ru（A）2（B）],（where A = 1,10-phenanthroline/2,2′-bipyridine and B = 3.4.5-tri-OCH_3DPC,4-CH3-DPC,4-N-（CH3）2-DPC,4-NO2-DPC arc described. These ligands form bidentate octahedral ruthenium *** title complexes were subjected to in vitro cytotoxic activity measurements against the human cancer T-lymphocyte cell lines MTT *** vitro evaluation of these ruthenium complexes revealed cytotoxic activity from 0.24 to 1.4μg/mL against CEM,0.44 to 1.9μg/mL against Molt4/C8.0.28 to 1.5μg/mL against L1210,0.24 to 0.98μg/mL against HL60,and 0.25 to 1.2μg/mL against BEL7402,depending the nature of the compound.
