Asthma and chronic obstructive airway disease ,（COAD） are chronic inflammatory disorders of the airways which are usually associated with widespread airway obstruction that is often relieved by treatment. β2-adrenoreceptor agonists and corticosteriods are the mainstay of the management of this disease. The preferred route of administration of these agents is by inhalation. This allows the drug to be delivered directly to the airway with more rapid relief and fewer side effects than systemic route. Diabetic wound healing has become a serious healthcare *** high-glucose environment leads to persistent bacterial infection and mitochondrial dysfunction,resulting in chronic inflammation,abnormal vascular function,and tissue *** solve these issues,we developed a double-network hydrogel,constructed with pluronic F127 diacrylate(F127DA)and hyaluronic acid methacrylate(HAMA),and enhanced by SS31-loaded mesoporous polydopamine nanoparticles(MPDA NPs).As components,SS31,a mitochondria-targeted peptide,maintains mitochondrial function,reduces mitochondrial reactive oxygen species(ROS)and thus regulates macrophage polarization,as well as promoting cell proliferation and migration,while MPDA NPs not only scavenge ROS and exert an anti-bacterial effect by photothermal treatment under near-infrared light irradiation,but also control release of SS31 in response to *** F127DA/HAMA-MPDA@SS31(FH-M@S)hydrogel has characteristics of adhesion,superior biocompatibility and mechanical properties which can adapt to irregular wounds at different body sites and provide sustained release of MPDA@SS31(M@S)*** addition,in a diabetic rat full thickness skin defect model,the FH-M@S hydrogel promoted macrophage M2 polarization,collagen deposition,neovascularization and wound ***,the FH-M@S hydrogel exhibits promising therapeutic potential for skin regeneration.

AIM:To investigate the 10-year results of treating low rectal cancer by a single surgeon in one ***:From Oct 1998 to Feb 2009,we prospectively followed a total of 62 patients with cT2-4 low rectal cancer with lower tumor margins measuring at 3 to 6 cm above the anal *** patients received neoadjuvant chemoradiation(CRT) for 6 *** them,85% of the patients received 225 mg/m2/d 5-fluorouracil using a portable infusion *** whole pelvis received a total dose of 45 Gy of irradiation in 25 fractions over 5 *** interval from CRT completion to surgical intervention was planned to be approximately 6-8 *** mesorectal excision(TME) and routine defunctioning stoma construction were performed by one *** distal resection margin,circumferential resection margin,tumor regression grade(TRG) and other parameters were *** used TRG to evaluate the tumor response after neoadjuvant *** evaluated anal function outcomes using the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center anal function scores after closure of the defunctioning ***:The median distance from the lower margin of rectal cancer to the anal verge was 5 cm:6 cm in 9 patients,5 cm in 32 patients,4 cm in 10 patients,and 3 cm in 11 *** receiving neoadjuvant CRT,45 patients(72.6%) had a cT3-4 tumor,and 21(33.9%) patients had a cN1-2 lymph node *** CRT,30 patients(48.4%) had a greater than 50% clinical reduction in tumor *** final pathology reports revealed that 33 patients(53.2%) had a ypT3-4 tumor and 12(19.4%) patients had ypN1-2 lymph node *** patients completed the entire course of neoadjuvant *** patients developed only Grade 1-2 toxicities during *** patients(21%) achieved a pathologic complete *** post-operative complications *** 90% of the defunctioning stomas were closed within 6 *** local recurrence rate was 3.2%.Pathologic lymph node involvement was the only prognostic factor predicting

The potential of Subsurface Infiltration for the Treatment of Biofil Toilet Technology Effluent

Generally discharges from on-site sanitation （OSS） system could be a source of pollution to the environment if not well managed. This work illustrates the potential of subsurface infiltration to treat secondary effluent from a novel on-site vermi-biofiltration system called the Biofil Toilet Technology （BTT）. In practice, the BTT effluent is discharged via sub-surface infiltration. The focus of the research was to determine possible contaminant removal within the first 1.5 m depth of soil column. To achieve this objective, laboratory scale soil columns were designed and constructed for the treatment of secondary domestic wastewater from the BTT. Four different soil columns, each with 1.5 m depth of soil （sandy soil--SS, loamy soil--LS, clayey soil----CS, and red laterite soil--RLS） and fifth column with 0.45 m multi-layer sand filter were constructed and characterized. The columns were fed with the BTT effluent and sampled at ports spaced at 0.3 m, 0.8 m, and 1.5 m depths. Using the samples, parameters like COD, BODs, TSS, T-N, NO3-N, NO2-N, po4-P, and pathogenic indicator microbes were monitored. RLS and SS columns efficiently removed COD, BODs, and TSS from the BTT effluent below the Ghana Environmental Protection Agency （GH EPA） guideline values. Up to 99% COD removal were observed in RLS column. A two to five log pathogen removal was recorded for the soil columns. The RLS and SS were found to have a high efficacy for contaminant removal with up to 80% of all contaminants being removed at a depth of 0.3 m along the soil columns. Thus the subsurface infiltration system can serve as a promising technology for the BTT effluent treatment. The study recommends the incorporation of infiltration systems to the BTT especially for areas with high water table or clayey soils.

Interspecific hybrids often increase the levels of heterozygosity and hybrid vigor, but some interspecific hybrid seeds are aborted shortly after fertilization. The mechanism behind this postzygotic seed abortion is poorly understood. Here, we report genome-wide analysis of allelic expression changes in developing siliques and seeds in three F1 interspecific crosses between Arabidopsis thaliana （Col, Ler, or C24） and Arabidopsis arenosa. The majority of maternally expressed genes （MEGs） were shared among all three F1 interspecific crosses, whereas ~90% of 272 paternally expressed genes （PEGs） were found only in one or two F1 crosses, suggesting a role for disrupted paternal gene expression in seed abortion that varies in different crosses. Consistent with this notion, 12 PEGs in the infertile interspecific hybrids matched MEGs in fertile intraspecific hybrids. This disruption of PEGs in the interspecific hybrids was consistent with the upregulation of the genes in the paternal-excess interploidy cross （2X6） between a diploid mother and a hexaploid father, leading to the seed abortion. Moreover, a subset of PEGs in the interspecific crosses were also upregulated in the intraspecific hybrid metlXWT or meaXWT, in which the mutant of MET1 （DNA METHYL TRANSFERASE1） or MEDEA, a polycomb Repressive Complex2 gene, was used as the maternal parent. These data suggest that maternal epigenetic factors and paternal gene expression play important roles in the postzygotic seed abortion in interspecific hybrids or neo-allopolyploids.

AIM:To study patients with atrial fibrillation and hypertension who had successful catheter ablation for changes in blood pressure 1 year ***:A retrospective study was performed on patients who had catheter ablation for atrial fibrillation(AF) and hypertension(HTN) which included local autonomic ganglionated plexi denervation and pulmonary veins *** the records of 119 patients,followup data was found in order to determine the presence of sinus rhythm and data on systolic(SBP) and diastolic blood pressure at 2 wk,3 mo,6 mo and 1 year after the ablation *** echocardiograms were taken at the time of the catheter procedure to determine left atrial dimensions(LADs) and left ventricular ***:There was no significant difference in the preablation mean blood pressures between the two groups(P = 0.08).After 1 year 33 of the 60 with AF and HTN were in sinus rhythm,of whom 12 had normal LADs,≤ 4 cm Group 1,and 21 had enlarged left atria(LADs > 4 cm,Group 2).For Group 1,at 1 year of follow up,there was a significant difference in the SBP(119.2 ± 13 mm Hg) compared to pre-ablation(142.6 ± 13.7 mm Hg,P = 0.001).For Group 2,there was no significant difference in the SBP,pre-ablation(130.3 ± 17.5 mm Hg) and at 1 year of follow up(130.4 ± 13.4 mm Hg,P = 0.75).All patients were on similar anti-hypertensive *** was a trend for a greater left ventricular size in Group 2 compared to Group ***:We suggest that Group 1 had HTN due to sympathetic hyperactivity,neurogenic HTN;whereas HTN in Group 2 was based on arterial vasoconstriction.

The essential role of phosphorus(P)for agriculture and its impact on water quality has received decades of research ***,the benefits of sustainable P use and management for society due to its downstream impacts on multiple ecosystem services are rarely *** propose a conceptual framework-the“phosphorus-ecosystem services cascade”(PESC)-to integrate the key ecosystem processes and functions that moderate the relationship between P released to the environment from human actions and ecosystem services at distinct spatial and temporal *** pathways in the cascade via soil and aquatic processes link anthropogenic P to biodiversity and multiple services,including recreation,drinking water provision,and *** anthropogenic P cascades through catchments,it often shifts from a subsidy to a stressor of ecosystem *** stewardship can have emergent ecosystem service co-benefits due to synergies with other societal or management goals(e.g.,recycling of livestock manures and organic wastes could impact soil carbon storage).Applying the PESC framework,we identify key research priorities to align P stewardship with the management of multiple ecosystem services,such as incorporating additional services into agri-environmental P indices,assessing how widespread recycling of organic P sources could differentially impact agricultural yields and water quality,and accounting for shifting baselines in P stewardship due to climate ***,P impacts depend on site-specific agricultural and biogeophysical contexts,so greater precision in targeting stewardship strategies to specific locations would help to optimize for ecosystem services and to more effectively internalize the downstream costs of farm nutrient management.
