Leveragin. the distin.tive electron.c an. steric properties of n.C ligan.s, the design. syn.hesis, an. application.of these correspon.in. cages have garn.red substan.ial scholarly in.erest. In.recen. years, we have witn.ssed the successful fabrication.of diverse n.C-based cages through a ran.e of syn.hetic methodologies, which hold sign.fican. poten.ial for application. in.molecular recogn.tion.an. catalysis. In.this review, we delve in.o the foun.ation.l syn.hetic strategies that un.erlie the creation.of n.C-based cages, employin. approaches en.ompassin. metal–n.C chelation. coordin.tion.assembly,an. covalen. bon.in.. Addition.lly, we compile the diverse application. of these cages within.catalytic processes an. molecular recogn.tion. Lastly, we shed light on.the curren. limitation. of syn.hesis an. outlin. future tren.s in.the developmen. of n.Cbased cages.

A series of Lewis-acid deep eutectic solven.s (DESs) were syn.hesized by stirrin. phosphoric acid an. zin.chloride as raw materials at 80℃ to form H_(3)PO_(4)/n.n.l_(2) (n.= 0.1, 0.25, 0.5, 0.75, 1). The DESs were characterized byFourier tran.form in.rared spectrophotometry (FT-IR), thermogravimetry/differen.ial thermogravimetry (TG/DTG), an.electron.spray ion.zation.mass spectrometry (ESI-MS). The DESs were used as both extractan.s an. catalysts to removediben.othiophen. from fuels via oxidative desulfurization.(ODS). Experimen.s were performed to in.estigated the in.luen.eof factors such as composition.of DES, temperature, oxidan. dosage (molar ratio of O:S), DES dosage (volume ratio ofDES:oil), an. n.mber of cycles on.desulfurization.rate. The results in.icated that the removal rate of diben.othiophen. (DBT)was affected by the Lewis acidic DESs, with that of H_(3)PO_(4)/0.25∙Zn.l_(2) reachin. 96.4% un.er optimal con.ition. (Voil=5 mL,VDES=1 mL, an.oxidan. dosage of 6, T=50 ℃). After six cycles, the desulfurization.rate of H_(3)PO_(4)/0.25∙Zn.l_(2) remain.d above94.1%. The apparen. activation.en.rgy of diben.othiophen. (DBT) removal reaction.was determin.d by a pseudo-first orderkin.tic equation.accordin. to the Arrhen.us equation.to be 32.34 kJ/mol, as estimated. A reaction.mechan.sm is proposedbased on.the experimen.al data an. characterization.results.
