Here we propose a new concept of"molecule aging":with some special treatment,a molecule could be"aged"by losing some unknown tiny particles or pieces from atoms in the molecule,Such"aging"or loss of unknown tiny particles does not change apparently its molecular structure or chemical composition,but some physicochemical properties could be changed irreversibly.We further confirm such"molecule aging"via a long-term electron attacking to age water(H_(2)O)molecules.The IR spectra show no structural difference between the fresh water and the aged one,while the NMR spectra show that the electron attacking can decrease the size of water clusters.Such facts indicate that the electron attacking indeed can"affect"the structure of water molecule slightly but without damaging to its basic molecule frame.Further exploration reveals that the hydrogen evolution reaction(HER)activity of the aged water molecule is lower than the fresh water on the same Pt/C electrocatalyst.The density functional theory calculations indicate that the shortened O-H bond in H_(2)O indeed can present lower HER activity,so the observed size decrease of water clusters from NMR probably could be attributed to the shortening of O-H bond in water molecules.Such results indicate significantly that the molecule aging can produce materials with new functions for new possible applications.

Constructing heterostructured nanohybrid is considered as a prominent route to fabricate alternative electrocatalysts to commercial Pt/C for hydrogen evolution reaction(HER).In this work,(NH_(4))_(4)[NiH_(6)Mo_(6)O_(4)]·5H_(2)O polyoxometalates(NiMo_(6))are adopted as the cluster precursors for simple fabrication of heterostructured Pt-Ni_(3)Mo_(3)N nanohybrids supported by carbon black(Pt-Ni_(3)Mo_(3)N/C)without using additional N sources.The improved porosity and enhanced electronic interaction of Pt-Ni_(3)Mo_(3)N/C should be attributed to the integration of Pt with NiMo_(6),which favors the mass transport,promotes the formation of exposed catalytic sites,and benefits the regulation of intrinsic activity.Thus,the as-obtained Pt-Ni_(3)Mo_(3)N/C exhibits impressive and durable HER performance as indicated by the low overpotential of 13.7 mV at the current density of 10 mA cm^(-2) and the stable overpotential during continuous working at 100 mA cm^(-2) for 100 h.This work provides significant insights for the synthesis of new highly active heterostructured electrocatalysts for renewable energy devices.

Triclosan(TCS)has been manufactured as an antibacterial compound for half a century.Currently,it is widely used in various personal care products;however,its potential adverse effects raise a lot of attention.Here,we create a long-term oral administration mouse model and identify the corresponding hepatotoxicity of TCS.We discover that daily intragastric administration of 10 mg/kg TCS to mice for 12 weeks results in severe hepatic fibrosis.Further study displays that hepatic iron increased 18%,23%and 29%upon oral TCS treatment for4,8 and 12 weeks,respectively.Accompanied by hepatic iron variation,splenic and duodenal iron are increased,which indicates systemic iron disorder.Not only excessive iron accumulated in the liver,abnormal hepatic malondialdehyde,prostaglandin synthase 2 and glutathione peroxidase 4 are pointed to ferroptosis.Additional study uncovers that hepcidin expression increases 7%,10%,4%in serum and 2.4-,4.8-,and 2.3-fold on transcriptional levels upon TCS exposure for 4,8 and 12 weeks,individually.Taken together,the mice in the TCS-treated group show disordered systemic iron homeostasis via the upregulated hepatic hepcidin-ferroportin axis.Meanwhile,both hepatic iron overload(systemic level)and hepatocyte ferroptosis(cellular level)are accused of TCS-induced liver fibrosis.Ferriprox■,an iron scavenger,significantly ameliorates TCS-induced liver fibrosis.In summary,this study confirms the impact of TCS on liver fibrosis;a critical signal pathway is also displayed.The significance of the current study is to prompt us to reevaluate the“pros and cons”of TCS applications.

Cancer is a leading cause of death worldwide.Targeted therapies aimed at key oncogenic driver mutations in combination with chemotherapy and radiother-apy as well as immunotherapy have benefited cancer patients considerably.Tumor protein p53(TP53),a crucial tumor suppressor gene encoding p53,reg-ulates numerous downstream genes and cellular phenotypes in response to various stressors.The affected genes are involved in diverse processes,includ-ing cell cycle arrest,DNA repair,cellular senescence,metabolic homeostasis,apoptosis,and autophagy.However,accumulating recent studies have contin-ued to reveal novel and unexpected functions of p53 in governing the fate of tumors,for example,functions in ferroptosis,immunity,the tumor microenvi-ronment and microbiome metabolism.Among the possibilities,the evolutionary plasticity of p53 is the most controversial,partially due to the dizzying array of biological functions that have been attributed to different regulatory mechanisms of p53 signaling.Nearly 40 years after its discovery,this key tumor suppressor remains somewhat enigmatic.The intricate and diverse functions of p53 in reg-ulating cell fate during cancer treatment are only the tip of the iceberg with respect to its equally complicated structural biology,which has been painstak-ingly revealed.Additionally,TP53 mutation is one of the most significant genetic alterations in cancer,contributing to rapid cancer cell growth and tumor pro-gression.Here,we summarized recent advances that implicate altered p53 in modulating the response to various cancer therapies,including chemotherapy,radiotherapy,and immunotherapy.Furthermore,we also discussed potential strategies for targeting p53 as a therapeutic option for cancer.

Glufosinate-ammonium herbicides are the most widely used broad-spectrum,non-selective herbicides in the world.Glufosinate-ammonium is a structural analogue of glutamate(Glu)which can irreversibly inhibit the activity of glutamine synthetase(GS)and Glu decarboxylase in plants,thereby blocking the synthesis of glutamine(Gln)from Glu and ammonia(Hoerlein,1994).This causes the plants to die because of the nitrogen metabolism disorder and subsequent intracellular accumulation of ammonia.In humans,the characteristic features of glufosinate-ammonium herbicide poisoning include gastrointestinal symptoms and neurotoxicity(Watanabe and Sano,1998).

To understand the reproductive biology of Hemitripterus villosus in the Bohai Strait,and fill the key knowledge gap in verifying reproductive seasonality and documenting gonadotropin dependent reproductive cycle of this species,a year-round detail study was conducted for the first time.In total,263 individuals were randomly sampled off the coasts of the Bohai Strait.Results show that and the overall female-to-male ratio(1.35:1)did not differ significantly from the 1:1 sex ratio.The length and weight relationship for females and males were regressed,depicting an isometric growth for both sexes.Four reproductive phases of the complete gonadotropin dependent reproductive cycle in both sexes were identified.The monthly variations in the gonadosomatic and hepatosomatic indexes for both sexes further indicated that this species spawns a single batch of eggs per year and the peak spawning period is from October to December.The average diameter of eggs ranged from 2.10 to 3.57 mm.The length at first sexual maturity was 224.87 mm for females and 241.26 mm for males.Significant positive relationships between absolute fecundity and fish size,and also gonadal weight were observed.H.villosus from the Bohai Strait exhibited smaller body size,smaller egg diameter,lower gonadosomatic index,lower absolute fecundity,and higher population extinction risk than the other populations’studied previously.Our findings contribute to understanding the status of this isolated westernmost population,and we emphasize that more efficient protection measures for the species and control measures are urgently required to improve the coastal environment in the Bohai Strait.

Rheological Behaviors of Polymers with Nanoparticles Tethered at Each End

The polymer with nanoparticles tethered at each end is a unique model for unraveling the effect of chain ends on the polymer dynamics. We investigated the rheological behavior of this kind of polymer by using nonequilibrium molecular dynamics simulation. The effect of polymer lengths and nanoparticle radii on the complex moduli and viscosity was examined. The dependence of complex moduli on the frequency becomes less pronounced as the polymer is short or the nanoparticle is large. The shear thinning behavior was revealed for these systems, and the scaling exponent of complex viscosity with respect to the frequency was found to change from-1/2 to-3/4 as the polymer shortens or the nanoparticle enlarges. The rheological behavior was further explained by analyzing the mean square distance of nanoparticles. The simulation results were compared with the existing experimental finding, showing an agreement. The work provides information for understanding the chain end effect on polymer rheology.

Purpose:In patients with heatstroke, disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC) is associated with greater risk of in-hospital mortality. However, time-consuming assays or a complex diagnostic system may delay immediate treatment. Therefore, the present study proposes a new heatstroke-induced coagulopathy (HIC) score in patients with heat illness as an early warning indicator for DIC.Methods:This retrospective study enrolled patients with heat illness in 24 Chinese hospitals from March 2021 to May 2022. Patients under 18 years old, with a congenital clotting disorder or liver disease, or using anticoagulants were excluded. Data were collected on demographic characteristics, routine blood tests, conventional coagulation assays and biochemical indexes. The risk factors related to coagulation function in heatstroke were identified by regression analysis, and used to construct a scoring system for HIC. The data of patients who met the diagnostic criteria for HIC and International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis defined-DIC were analyzed. All statistical analyses were performed using SPSS 26.0.Results:The final analysis included 302 patients with heat illness, of whom 131 (43.4%) suffered from heatstroke, including 7 death (5.3%). Core temperature (OR = 1.681, 95% CI 1.291 - 2.189, p < 0.001), prothrombin time (OR = 1.427, 95% CI 1.175 - 1.733, p < 0.001) and D-dimer (OR = 1.242, 95% CI 1.049 - 1.471, p = 0.012) were independent risk factors for heatstroke, and therefore used to construct an HIC scoring system because of their close relation with abnormal coagulation. A total score ≥ 3 indicated HIC, and HIC scores correlated with the score for International Society of Thrombosis and Hemostasis-DIC (r = 0.8848, p < 0.001). The incidence of HIC (27.5%) was higher than that of DIC (11.2%) in all of 131 heatstroke patients. Meanwhile, the mortality rate of HIC (19.4%) was lower than that of DIC (46.7%). BACKGROUND The research findings suggest that the prognosis of children with Wilms tumor(WT)is affected by various factors.Some scholars have indicated that loss of heterozygosity(LOH)on chromosome 16q is associated with a poor prognosis in patients with WT.AIM To further elucidate this relationship,we conducted a meta-analysis.METHODS This meta-analysis was registered in INPLASY(INPLASY2023100060).We systematically searched databases including Embase,PubMed,Web of Science,Cochrane,and Google Scholar up to May 31,2020,for randomized trials reporting any intrapartum fetal surveillance approach.The meta-analysis was performed within a frequentist framework,and the quality and network inconsistency of trials were assessed.Odds ratios and 95%CIs were calculated to report the relationship between event-free survival and 16q LOH in patients with WT.RESULTS Eleven cohort studies were included in this meta-analysis to estimate the relationship between event-free survival and 16q LOH in patients with WT(I^(2)=25%,P<0.001).As expected,16q LOH can serve as an effective predictor of eventfree survival in patients with WT(risk ratio=1.95,95%CI:1.52–2.49,P<0.001).CONCLUSION In pediatric patients with WT,there exists a partial correlation between 16q LOH and an unfavorable treatment prognosis.Clinical detection of 16q chromosome LOH warrants increased attention to the patient’s prognosis.
