Paper evolution graph: multi-view structural retrieval for academic literature

Academic literature retrieval concerns about the selection of papers that are most likely to match a user's information needs. Most of the retrieval systems are limited to list-output models, in which the retrieval results are isolated from each other. In this paper, we aim to uncover the relationships between the retrieval results and propose a method to build structural retrieval results for academic literature, which we call a paper evolution graph(PEG).The PEG describes the evolution of diverse aspects of input queries through several evolution chains of papers. By using the author, citation, and content information, PEGs can uncover various underlying relationships among the papers and present the evolution of articles from multiple viewpoints. Our system supports three types of input queries: keyword query, single-paper query, and two-paper query. The construction of a PEG consists mainly of three steps. First, the papers are soft-clustered into communities via metagraph factorization, during which the topic distribution of each paper is obtained. Second, topically cohesive evolution chains are extracted from the communities that are relevant to the query. Each chain focuses on one aspect of the query. Finally, the extracted chains are combined to generate a PEG, which fully covers all the topics of the query. Experimental results on a real-world dataset demonstrate that the proposed method can construct meaningful PEGs.

Calcium channel blockers（CCBs）are widely used to treat cardiovascular diseases such as hypertension,angina pectoris,hypertrophic cardiomyopathy,and supraventricular tachycardia.CCBs selectively inhibit the inward flow of calcium ions through voltage-gated calcium channels,particularly Ca v 1.2,that are expressed in the cardiovascular system.Changes to the molecular structure of Ca v 1.2 channels could affect sensitivity of the channels to blockade by CCBs.Recently,extensive alternative splicing was found in Ca v 1.2 channels that generated wide phenotypic variations.Cardiac and smooth muscles express slightly different,but functionally important Ca v 1.2 splice variants.Alternative splicing could also modulate the gating properties of the channels and giving rise to different responses to inhibition by CCBs.Importantly,alternative splicing of Ca v 1.2 channels may play an important role to influence the outcome of many cardiovascular disorders.Therefore,the understanding of how alternative splicing impacts Ca v 1.2 channels pharmacology in various diseases and different organs may provide the possibility for individualized therapy with minimal side effects.

Outlier Detection and Forecasting for Bridge Health Monitoring Based on Time Series Intervention Analysis

The method of time series analysis,applied by establishing appropriate mathematical models for bridge health monitoring data and making forecasts of structural future behavior,stands out as a novel and viable research direction for bridge state assessment.However,outliers inevitably exist in the monitoring data due to various interventions,which reduce the precision of model fitting and affect the forecasting results.Therefore,the identification of outliers is crucial for the accurate interpretation of the monitoring data.In this study,a time series model combined with outlier information for bridge health monitoring is established using intervention analysis theory,and the forecasting of the structural responses is carried out.There are three techniques that we focus on:(1)the modeling of seasonal autoregressive integrated moving average(SARIMA)model;(2)the methodology for outlier identification and amendment under the circumstances that the occurrence time and type of outliers are known and unknown;(3)forecasting of the model with outlier effects.The method was tested with a case study using monitoring data on a real bridge.The establishment of the original SARIMA model without considering outliers is first discussed,including the stationarity,order determination,parameter estimation and diagnostic checking of the model.Then the time-by-time iterative procedure for outlier detection,which is implemented by appropriate test statistics of the residuals,is performed.The SARIMA-outlier model is subsequently built.Finally,a comparative analysis of the forecasting performance between the original model and SARIMA-outlier model is carried out.The results demonstrate that proper time series models are effective in mining the characteristic law of bridge monitoring data.When the influence of outliers is taken into account,the fitted precision of the model is significantly improved and the accuracy and the reliability of the forecast are strengthened.

In this paper,we develop the residual based a posteriori error estimates and the corresponding adaptive mesh refinement algorithm for atomistic/continuum(a/c)coupling with finite range interactions in two dimensions.We have systematically derived a new explicitly computable stress tensor formula for finite range in-teractions.In particular,we use the geometric reconstruction based consistent atomistic/continuum(GRAC)coupling scheme,which is quasi-optimal if the continuum model is discretized by P1 finite elements.The numerical results of the adaptive mesh refinement algorithm is consistent with the quasi-optimal a priori error estimates.

A study on predicting crisis information dissemination in epidemic-level public health events

Crisis information dissemination plays a key role in the development of emergency responses to epidemic-level public health events.Therefore,clarifying the causes of crisis information dissemination and making accurate predictions to effectively control such situations have attracted extensive attention.Based on media richness theory and persuasion theory,this study constructs an index system of crisis information dissemination impact factors from two aspects:the crisis information publisher and the published crisis information content.A multi-layer perceptron is used to analyze the weight of the index system,and the prediction is transformed into a pattern classification problem to test crisis information dissemination.In this study,COVID-19 is considered a representative event.An experiment is conducted to predict the crisis information dissemination of COVID-19 in two megacities.Data related to COVID-19 from these two megacities are acquired from the well-known Chinese social media platform Weibo.The experimental results show that not only the identity but also the social influence of the information publisher has a significant impact on crisis information dissemination in epidemic-level public health events.Furthermore,the proposed model achieves more than 95%test accuracy,precision rate,recall value and f1-score in the prediction task.The study provides decision-making support for government departments and a guide for correctly disseminating crisis information and public opinion during future epidemic-level public health events.

Glioma is a common tumor originating in the brain that has a high mortality rate.Temozolomide(TMZ)is the first-line treatment for high-grade gliomas.However,a large pro-portion of gliomas are resistant to TMZ,posing a great challenge to their treatment.In the study,the specific functions and mechanism(s)by which cortistatin(CORT)regulates TMZ resis-tance and glioma progression were evaluated.The decreased expression of CoRT was detected in glioma tissues,and highly expressed CORT was associated with a better survival rate in pa-tients with glioma.CORT overexpression notably decreased the capacity of glioma cells to pro-liferate and migrate in vitro and to form tumors in vivo.CORT overexpression also markedly suppressed the viability and enhanced the apoptosis of TMZ-resistant U251 cells by regulating MGMT,p21,and Puma expression.Importantly,CORT overexpression reduced the resistance of gliomas to TMZ in vivo.CORT expression Was negatively correlated with MGMT expression in both glioma tissues and cells,and it was found that CORT inhibited NF-kB pathway activation in glioma cells,thereby inhibiting MGMT expression.In conclusion,CORT regulates glioma cell growth,migration,apoptosis,and TMZ resistance by weakening the activity of NF-kB/p65 and thereby regulating MGMT expression.The CORT/NF-kB/MGMT axis might be regarded as a molecular mechanism contributing to the resistance of glioma to TMZ.Our data also suggest that CORT regulates the viability and metastatic potential of glioma cells,independent of its effects on TMZ resistance,providing evidence of novel therapeutic targets for glioma that should be evaluated infurther studies.

Background:The epidemic of overweight and obesity has become a worldwide public health problem.Cardiometabolic diseases may originate in childhood.We investigated the association between percent body fat(PBF)measured by the bioelectrical impedance assay and cardiometabolic risk(CMR)in pediatrics.Methods:This cross-sectional study involved 3819 subjects(6-17 years old)in Shanghai.We assessed the association between PBF and body mass index(BMI)with multiple CMR factors.We examined the risk for cardiometabolic abnormalities attributable to overweight and obesity based on age-and sexspecific PBF Z-scores and BMI Z-scores,respectively.Results:PBF,but not BMI,was positively associated with multiple CMR factors in males and females except for total cholesterol in females(all p<0.05).Compared with the non-overweight group based on PBF,overweight and obese subjects had increasingly higher odds ratio of dyslipidemia(2.90(1.99-4.23),4.59(2.88-7.32)for males and 1.82(1.20-2.75),2.46(1.47-4.11)for females)and elevated blood pressure(BP)(3.26(2.35-4.51),4.55(2.92-7.09)for males and 1.59(1.07-2.34),3.98(2.27-6.17)for females).Obesity females showed a higher likelihood for hyperglycemia(2.19(1.24-3.84))than non-overweight females.In both sexes,the predictive effect of PBF on dyslipidemia and elevated BP in adolescents was better than that in children.For hyperglycemia,the predictive effect of PBF was better in male adolescents and female children.There was no risk difference for cardiometabolic abnormalities attributable to BMI-based obesity categories.Conclusions:PBF but not BMI was associated with CMR.Overweight and obesity categories based on PBF had an increased risk for cardiometabolic abnormalities in children and adolescents.

近代早期欧洲国家形成与军事活动之间的关系是西方学界关注的热点问题。美国学者约翰·布鲁尔提出“财政-军事国家”概念,强调行政机构扩大、财政税收增加与军事力量膨胀三者之间的关系。这一概念一经提出,很快成为分析近代欧洲国家形成与军事活动的重要框架,但它本身也存在一定的缺陷,例如,夸大了近代早期国家的能力、忽视了对财政资源的使用状况。近年来,一些西方学者试图对“财政-军事国家”概念进行补充与修正。“承包人国家”概念挑战了“公共”与“私人”的二元对立,着眼于国家将部分战争工作承包给私人,强调了私人部门在近代早期欧洲军事活动中的关键作用。“财政-军事体系”则采取了跨国的视角,关注国家、次级主权政治体和私人之间在军事活动中的互动,通过一系列“财政-军事中心”交易战争所需的人力、资金、物资、专家、服务和情报,从而勾勒出一个遍及欧洲的战争资源网络。这些研究极大地拓展了近代欧洲军事史和国家形成的视野与思路。

Sijunzi Decoction Inhibits Stemness by Suppressingβ-Catenin Transcriptional Activity in Gastric Cancer Cells

Objective:To investigate a previously uncharacterized function of Sijunzi Decoction(SJZD)in inhibition of gastric cancer stem cells(GCSCs).Methods:MKN74 and MKN45,two CD44 positive gastric cancer cell lines with stem cell properties were used.The cells were divided into 2 groups.Treatment group was treated with SJZD(1-5 mg/mL)for indicated time(48 h-14 days).The control group was treated with equal volume of phosphate buffered saline.Cell Counting Assay Kit-8 were used to measure cell viability.Spheroid colony formation and GCSCs marker expression were performed to determine GCSCs stemness.Cell fractionation and chromatin immunoprecipitation assays were used to assess the distribution and DNA-binding activity of β-catenin after SJZD treatment,respectively.Results:SJZD treatment repressed cell growth and induced apoptosis in MKN74 and MKN45 cell lines(P<0.05).Moreover,SJZD dramatically inhibited formation of spheroid colony and expression of GCSC markers in GC cells(P<0.05).Mechanistically,SJZD reduced nuclear accumulation and DNA binding activity ofβ-catenin(P<0.05),the key regulator for maintaining CSC stemness.Conclusion:SJZD inhibits GCSCs by attenuating the transcriptional activity of β-catenin.
