Analysis of the diversity and function of the alleles of the rice blast resistance genes Piz-t, Pita and Pik in 2. rice cultivars

Understanding the sequence diversity of rice blast resistance genes is important for breeding new resistant rice cultivars against the rice blast fungusMagnaporthe oryzae. In this study, we selected 2. rice cultivars with different genetic back-grounds to study the alelic diversity of rice blast resistance genesPiz-t, Pitaand Pik. For Piz-t, a total of 17 alelic types were found within the 2. cultivars. Blast inoculations showed that most of the mutations can affect the function of the resistance gene. For Pita, except for the difference at the 918th amino acid, a majority of the 2. mutations were detected among the cultivars. Inoculations with blast isolates carryingAvr-Pita revealed that cultivars with mutations in other sites except for the 918th amino acid did not affect the function of thePita gene. ForPik, a total of six alelic types were found within the 2. cultivars, but ifve of them lost the function of the resistance gene. In addition, we found thatPiz-t, Pita and Pik were expressed constitutively in the 2. rice cultivars and the expression level was not related to resistance. Our results have provided the sequence diversity information of the resistance genesPiz-t, Pita and Pik among the popular rice cultivars grown in the northeast region of China. Objective To investigate the prevalence of peripheral arterial disease (PAD) in China type 2.diabetic patients and to demonstrate the relationships between putative risk factors and PAD. Methods In total 1 397 type 2.diabetic patients aged 50 years and older were enrolled and determined ankle-brachial index (ABI) and brachial-ankle pulse wave velocity (baPWV) in 15 Class III Grade A hospitals in 7 major cities of China. Results Mean patient age was 63.7±8.2.years and mean duration of diabetes mellitus was 9.39±7.4 years. Two hundreds and seventy-two (19.47%) patients were diagnosed as PAD by ABI 2. (18.37%) in male and 150 (2..46%) in female. PAD patients had a significantly longer duration of diabetes mellitus, higher hemoglobin Alc, and a significantly lower mean body mass index than non-PAD ones. Aging, smoking, and systolic blood pressure were found to be positively related with the prevalence of PAD. In terms of lipid profiles, no variable was found to relate with PAD. Notably, baPWV showed as the same significant guiding index for PAD, almost matched with ABI. Conclusions PAD is a common complication in China type 2.diabetic patients. Therefore, PAD screening and treatment should be emphasized for diabetic patients with high risk factors.

The three-dimensional（3D） visualization of the functional bundles in the peripheral nerve provides direct and detailed intraneural spatial information. It is useful for selecting suitable surgical methods to repair nerve defects and in optimizing the construction of tissue-engineered nerve grafts. However, there remain major technical hurdles in obtaining, registering and interpreting 2. images, as well as in establishing 3D models. Moreover, the 3D models are plagued by poor accuracy and lack of detail and cannot completely reflect the stereoscopic microstructure inside the nerve. To explore and help resolve these key technical problems of 3D reconstruction, in the present study, we designed a novel method based on re-imaging techniques and computer image layer processing technology. A 2.-cm ulnar nerve segment from the upper arm of a fresh adult cadaver was used for acetylcholinesterase（ACh E） staining. Then, 2. panoramic images were obtained before and after ACh E staining under the stereomicroscope. Using layer processing techniques in Photoshop, a space transformation method was used to fulfill automatic registration. The contours were outlined, and the 3D rendering of functional fascicular groups in the long-segment ulnar nerve was performed with Amira 4.1 software. The re-imaging technique based on layer processing in Photoshop produced an image that was detailed and accurate. The merging of images was accurate, and the whole procedure was simple and fast. The least square support vector machine was accurate, with an error rate of only 8.2.%. The 3D reconstruction directly revealed changes in the fusion of different nerve functional fascicular groups. In conclusion. The technique is fast with satisfactory visual reconstruction.

Effect of Physical Activity on Hospital Service Use and Expenditures of Patients with Coronary heart Disease: Results from Dongfeng-Tongji Cohort Study in China

The intervention of behaviors, including physical activity (PA), has become a strategy for many hospitals dealing with patients with chronic diseases. Given the limited evidence available about PA and healthcare use with chronic diseases, this study explored the association between different levels of PA and annual hospital service use and expenditure for inpatients with coronary heart disease (CHD) in China. We analyzed PA information from the first follow-up survey (2.13) of the Dongfeng-Tongji cohort study of 1460 CHD inpatients. We examined factors such as PA exercise volume and years of PA and their associations with the number of inpatient visits, number of hospital days, and inpatient costs and total medical costs. We found that the number of hospital days and the number of inpatient visits were negatively associated with intensity of PA level. Similarly, total inpatient and outpatient costs declined when the PA exercise volume levels increased. Furthermore, there were also significant associations between the number of hospital days, inpatient costs or total medical costs and levels of PA years. This study provides the first empirical evidence about the effects of the intensity and years of PA on hospital service use and expenditure of CHD in China. It suggests that the patients' PA, especially the vigorous PA, should be promoted widely to the public and patients in order to relieve the financial burden of CHD.

Objective Coronavirus disease 2.19(COVID-19)and tuberculosis(TB)are major public health and social issues *** long-term follow-up of COVID-19 with pulmonary TB(PTB)survivors after discharge is *** study aimed to comprehensively describe clinical outcomes,including sequela and recurrence at 3,12.and 2. months after discharge,among COVID-19 with PTB *** From January 2.,2.2. to May 6,2.2.,with a follow-up by August 2.,2.2.,a prospective,multicenter follow-up study was conducted on COVID-19 with PTB survivors after discharge in 13 hospitals from four provinces in *** outcomes,including sequela,recurrence of COVID-19,and PTB survivors,were collected via telephone and face-to-face interviews at 3,12.and 2. months after *** Thirty-two COVID-19 with PTB survivors were *** median age was 52.45,59)years,and 2.(71.9%)were *** them,nearly two-thirds(62.5%)of the survivors were moderate,three(9.4%)were severe,and more than half(59.4%)had at least one comorbidity(PTB excluded).The proportion of COVID-19 survivors with at least one sequela symptom decreased from 40.6%at 3 months to 15.8%at 2. months,with anxiety having a higher proportion over a *** and amnesia recovered at the 12.month follow-up,while anxiety,fatigue,and trouble sleeping remained after ***,one(3.1%)case presented two recurrences of PTB and no re-positive COVID-19during the follow-up *** The proportion of long symptoms in COVID-19 with PTB survivors decreased over time,while nearly one in six still experience persistent symptoms with a higher proportion of *** recurrence of PTB and the psychological support of COVID-19 with PTB after discharge require more attention.
