Distribution and Abundance of Pelagic Tunicates in the North Yellow Sea

In this paper, the distribution patterns and abundance of pelagic tunicates in the North Yellow Sea of China during the period 2006-2007 were analyzed. Zooplankton samples were obtained with vertical towing from bottom to surface using a WP2 plankton net(200 μm mesh size; mouth area: 0.25 m2). Five species belonging to two classes were identified: Oikopleura dioica, O. longicauda and Fritillaria borealis belonging to class Appendicularia; Salpa fusiformis and Doliolum denticulatum of class Thaliacea. O. dioica and O. longicauda were the dominant species, occurring in the samples of all four seasons, with different distribution patterns. Their maximum abundance were 1664.7 ind. m-3(spring) and 1031.7 ind. m-3(spring) respectively. Following Oikopleura spp. were D. denticulatum, which was found only in autumn with an average abundance of 149.6 ind. m-3, and S. fusiformis, which was detected all the year long except for autumn with low abundance(max. abundance 289.4 ind. m-3 in summer). Only a very small amount of F. borealis was detected in summer samples, with an average abundance of 2.7 ind. m-3. The relationship between tunicates abundances and the environmental factors was analyzed using the stepwise regression model for each species. The variation of appendicularian abundance showed a significant correlation with the surface water temperature and with the concentration of Chl-a. No relationship was found between tunicates abundance and salinity, likely due to the slight changes in surface salinity of the studied area during the four seasons. Salps abundance and that of doliolids were significantly correlated to bottom water temperature, indicating that these two species(S. fusiformis and D. denticulatum) migrate vertically in the water column. In particular D. denticulatum, known to be a warm water species, showed not only an important correlation with water temperature, but also a spatial distribution connected to the warm currents in the North Yellow Sea. 本文利用2006-2007年间在北黄海进行的大面调查所获得的大中型浮游动物样品,分析了北黄海浮游被囊类的种类组成、丰度和分布的季节变化及其与环境因子的关系。浮游动物样品使用Wp2型浮游生物网(孔径200μm,网口面积0.25m2)底表垂直拖网采得。共记录到合计5种浮游被囊类,隶属于2个纲,其中有尾纲种类包括异体住囊虫、长尾住囊虫和北方褶海鞘;海樽纲种类包括梭形纽鳃樽和小齿海樽。异体住囊虫和长尾住囊虫是4个季节都出现的优势种,但其分布模式存在季节差异,它们的最大丰度分别为1664.7ind./m3(春季)和1031.7ind./m3春季);小齿海樽仅在秋季记录到,平均丰度为149.6ind./m3;(?)形纽鳃樽则在除秋季外的3个季节都有出现,但平均丰度不高(最大丰度值出现在夏季,289.4ind./m3)。北方褶海鞘仅在夏季的个别站位出现,出现站位该种的平均丰度仅为2.7ind./m3。文中采用逐步回归法分析了浮游被囊类丰度和环境因子的关系。有尾纲种类中度与海水温度和chl-a有显著相关性。被囊类丰度与盐度之间的关系不显著,这可能与研究水域盐度的周年变化不大有关。梭形纽鳃樽和小齿海樽的丰度与底层温度显著相关,表明这两个种在水体垂直向分布的不均匀性。此外,需要指出的是,小齿海樽作为典型的暖水种不仅表现出与温度的显著相关性,其地理分布还与北黄海的流系有关。在以往的研究中,未见有小齿海樽在北黄海成为优势被囊类的报道。温度、浮游植物分布和海流是影响北黄海浮游被囊类分布最相关的环境因子。在未来的研究中,需要加强北黄海浮游动物的长期观测,以获取被囊类的生态学特征的更多信息,并且深入了解它们在海洋生态系统食物网中的地位。

Novel endoscopic over-the-scope clip system

This paper reports our experience with a new overthe-scope clip in the setting of recurrent bleeding and oesophageal fistula. We treated five patients with the over-the-scope Padlock Clip?. It is a nitinol ring, with six inner needles preassembled on an applicator cap, thumb press displaced by the Lock-It? delivery system. The trigger wire is located alongside the shaft of the endoscope, and does not require the working channel. Three patients had recurrent bleeding lesions(bleeding rectal ulcer, post polypectomy delayed bleeding and duodenal Dieulafoy's lesion) and two patients had a persistent respiratory-esophageal fistula. In all patients a previous endoscopic attempt with standard techniques had been useless. All procedures were conducted under conscious sedation but for one patient that required general anaesthesia due to multiple comorbidities. We used one Padlock Clip? for each patient in a single session. Simple suction was enough in all of our patients to obtain tissue adhesion to the instrument tip. A remarkably short application time was recorded for all cases(mean duration of the procedure: 8 min). We obtained technical and immediate clinical success for every patient. No major immediate, early or late(within 24 h, 7 d or 4 wk) adverse events were observed, over follow-up durations lasting a mean of 109.4 d. One patient, treated for duodenal bulb bleeding from a Dieulafoy's lesion, developed signs of mild pancreatitis 24 h after the procedure. The new over-the-scope Padlock Clip? seems to be simple to use and effective in different clinical settings, particularly in "difficult" scenarios, like recurrent bleeding and respiratory-oesophageal fistulas.

BACKGROUND Intestinal ischemia has been described in case reports of patients with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2)disease(coronavirus disease 19,COVID-19).AIM To define the clinical and histological,characteristics,as well as the outcome of ischemic gastrointestinal manifestations of SARS-CoV-2 *** A structured retrospective collection was promoted among three tertiary referral centres during the first wave of the pandemic in northern ***,radiological,endoscopic and histological data of patients hospitalized for COVID-19 between March 1st and May 30th were *** diagnosis was established by consecutive analysis of all abdominal computed tomography(CT)scans *** Among 2929 patients,21(0.7%)showed gastrointestinal ischemic manifestations either as presenting symptom or during *** CT showed bowel distention in 6 patients while signs of colitis/enteritis in *** patients presented thrombosis of main abdominal ***,when feasible,confirmed the diagnosis(6 patients).Surgical resection was necessary in 4/21 *** tissue examination showed distinctive features of endothelial inflammation in the small bowel and *** hospital stay was 9 d with a mortality rate of 39%.CONCLUSION Gastrointestinal ischemia represents a rare manifestation of COVID-19.A high index of suspicion should lead to investigate this complication by CT scan,in the attempt to reduce its high mortality *** shows atypical feature of ischemia with important endotheliitis,probably linked to thrombotic microangiopathies.

The Jiangmen Underground Neutrino Observatory(JUNO)features a 20 kt multi-purpose underground liquid scintillator sphere as its main *** of JUNO's features make it an excellent location for^8B solar neutrino measurements,such as its low-energy threshold,high energy resolution compared with water Cherenkov detectors,and much larger target mass compared with previous liquid scintillator *** this paper,we present a comprehensive assessment of JUNO's potential for detecting^8B solar neutrinos via the neutrino-electron elastic scattering process.A reduced 2 MeV threshold for the recoil electron energy is found to be achievable,assuming that the intrinsic radioactive background^(238)U and^(232)Th in the liquid scintillator can be controlled to 10^(-17)g/*** ten years of data acquisition,approximately 60,000 signal and 30,000 background events are *** large sample will enable an examination of the distortion of the recoil electron spectrum that is dominated by the neutrino flavor transformation in the dense solar matter,which will shed new light on the inconsistency between the measured electron spectra and the predictions of the standard three-flavor neutrino oscillation *** m^(2)_(21)=4.8times10^(-5);(7.5times10^(-5))eV^(2),JUNO can provide evidence of neutrino oscillation in the Earth at approximately the 3sigma(2sigma)level by measuring the non-zero signal rate variation with respect to the solar zenith ***,JUNO can simultaneously measureDelta m^2_(21)using^8B solar neutrinos to a precision of 20% or better,depending on the central value,and to sub-percent precision using reactor antineutrinos.A comparison of these two measurements from the same detector will help understand the current mild inconsistency between the value of Delta m^2_(21)reported by solar neutrino experiments and the KamLAND experiment.
