This paper discusses studies of the development of river conservancy in modern China,and the role of engineers-in-chief in river improvement planning on rivers such as the Hai-ho(Haihe)and the Whangpoo(Huangpu).It discusses the introduction of foreign hydraulic dredging technology and management into two major Chinese *** then analyses the process by which two agencies of the Chinese government absorbed and adjusted this technology to suit local circumstances in the treaty ports of Tianjin and Shanghai beginning in the *** prior experience in river conservancy,the conservancy boards adopted a range of foreign *** allowed them to develop into major institutions that facilitated increasing trade flows between China and the rest of the *** particular significance in this process of technological change was the role of the expatriate engineers-in-chief who were employed as chief executive officers of both *** were responsible for establishing the operations of the agencies,accommodating an increasing range of responsibilities such as financial and human resource management,and training Chinese engineers and managers for senior positions until they were ready to replace the expatriate engineers-in-chief after the 1930s.

为了确定自19世纪以来印度尼西亚的华商企业数量,本文分析了印度尼西亚股份有限公司的登记注册体系。研究发现,印尼"1846年商法"建立了公司注册体系,这一体系虽然经过修订,但一直延续至今。这一法律也适用于华商企业。在19世纪90年代,华商企业才开始注册并组成有限责任公司,此后数量迅速增加,在1920-1925年间达到了850家。到1940年,经济衰退和代际更替使得这一数量减少到了450家。在20世纪40-70年代之间,华商命运复杂,直到80年代印尼最大的华商企业以企业集团的新形式出现。此后,华商企业集团不断发展,尤其是2010年以来,有至少1000家中国跨国企业的子公司涌入印尼。

In general the problem of verifying whether a structured business process is compliant with a given set of regulations is NP-hard. The present paper focuses on identifying a tractable subset of this problem, namely verifying whether a structured business process is compliant with a single global obligation. Global obligations are those whose validity spans for the entire execution of a business process. We identify two types of obligations： achievement and maintenance.In the present paper we firstly define an abstract framework capable to model the problem and secondly we define procedures and algorithms to deal with the compliance problem of checking the compliance of a structured business process with respect to a single global obligation. We show that the algorithms proposed in the paper run in polynomial time.

The presence of newly emerging pollutants in the aquatic environment poses great challenges for drink-ing water treatment *** to their low concentrations and unknown characteristics,emerging pol-lutants cannot be efficiently removed by conventional water treatment processes,making technically,economically,and environmentally friendly water purification technologies increasingly *** article introduces a one-step reverse osmosis(OSRO)concept consisting of riverbank filtration(RBF)and reverse osmosis(RO)for drinking water *** OSRO concept combines the relatively low-cost natural pretreatment of river water with an advanced engineered purification *** pro-vides a continuous natural source of water with stable water quality and a robust barrier for *** the pre-removal of particles,organic matter,organic micro-pollutants(OMPs),and microbes,RBF becomes an ideal source for a purification system based on RO membranes,in comparison with the direct intake of surface *** treatment removes almost 99.9%of the particles,pathogens,viruses,and OMPs,as well as the vast majority of nutrients,and thus meets the requirements for the chlorine-free delivery of drinking water with high *** OSRO treatment is cost effective com-pared with the standard conventional series of purification steps involving sprinkling filters,softening,and activated *** bank filtration(ABF),which functions as an artificial recharge in combi-nation with a sand filtration system,is proposed as an alternative for RBF in the OSRO concept to supply drinking water from locally available *** is also suggested that the OSRO concept be imple-mented with wind power as an alternative energy source in order to be more sustainable and *** OSRO-based decentralized water system is proposed for water reclaiming and *** is suggested that future water treatment focus on the combination of natural and engineered systems to pro

Many cities have pledged to achieve carbon *** urban water industry can also contribute its share to a carbon-neutral *** a multi-city time-series analysis approach,this study aims to assess the progress and lessons learned from the greenhouse gas(GHG)emissions management of urban water systems in four global cities:Amsterdam,Melbourne,New York City,and *** cities are advanced in setting GHG emissions reduction targets and reporting GHG emissions in their water *** four cities have reduced the GHG emissions in their water industries,compared with those from more than a decade ago(i.e.,the latest three-year moving averages are 13%–32%lower),although the emissions have“rebounded”multiple times over the *** emissions reductions were mainly due to various engineering opportunities such as solar and mini-hydro power generation,biogas valorization,sludge digestion and incineration optimization,and aeration system *** cities have recognized the many challenges in reaching carbon-neutrality goals,which include fluctuating water demand and rainfall,more carbon-intensive flood-prevention and water-supply strategies,meeting new air and water quality standards,and revising GHG emissions accounting *** study has also shown that it is difficult for the water industry to achieve carbon neutrality on its own.A collaborative approach with other sectors is needed when aiming toward the city’s carbon-neutrality *** an approach involves expanding the usual system boundary of the water industry to externally tap into both engineering and non-engineering opportunities.

Background In a three-month report from the CGA-TAVI registry, we found the Multidimensional Prognostic Index (MPI) and Short Physical Performance Battery (SPPB) to be of value for predicting short-term outcomes in elderly patients undergoing transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI). In the present analysis, we examined the association of these tools with outcomes up to one year post-TAVI. Methods CGA-TAVI is an international, observational registry of geriatric patients undergoing TAVI. Patients were assessed using the MPI and SPPB. Efficacy of baseline values and any postoperative change for predicting outcome were established using logistic regression. Kaplan- Meier analysis was carried out for each comprehensive geriatric assessment tool, with survival stratified by risk category. Results One year after TAVI, 14.1% of patients deceased, while 17.4% met the combined endpoint of death and/or non-fatal stroke, and 37.7% the combined endpoint of death and/or hospitalisation and/or non-fatal stroke. A high-risk MPI score was associated with an increased risk of all-cause mortality (aOR = 36.13, 95% CI: 2.77–470.78, P = 0.006) and death and/or non-fatal stroke (aOR = 10.10, 95% CI: 1.48–68.75, P = 0.018). No significant associations were found between a high-risk SPPB score and mortality or two main combined endpoints. In contrast to a worsening SPPB, an aggravating MPI score at three months post-TAVI was associated with an increased risk of death and/or non-fatal stoke at one year (aOR = 95.16, 95% CI: 3.41–2657.01). Conclusions The MPI showed value for predicting the likelihood of death and a combination of death and/or non-fatal stroke by one year after TAVI in elderly patients.

The prevalence of type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM)is increasing rapidly *** of the limited success of generic interventions,the focus of the disease study has shifted toward personalized strategies,particularly in the early stages of the *** Chinese medicine(TCM)is based on a systems view combined with personalized strategies and has improved our knowledge of personalized *** a systems biology perspective,the understanding of personalized diagnostics can be improved to yield a biochemical basis for such strategies;for example,metabolomics can be used in combination with other system-based diagnostic methods such as ultra-weak photon emission(UPE).In this study,we investigated the feasibility of using plasma metabolomics obtained from 44 pre-T2DM subjects to stratify the following TCM-based subtypes:Qi-Yin deficiency,Qi-Yin deficiency with dampness,and Qi-Yin deficiency with *** studied the relationship between plasma metabolomics and UPE with respect to TCM-based subtyping in order to obtain biochemical information for further interpreting disease *** component analysis of plasma metabolites revealed differences among the TCM-based pre-T2DM *** high levels of lipids(e.g.,cholesterol esters and triglycerides)were important discriminators of two of the three subtypes and may be associated with a higher risk of cardiovascular *** metabolomics data indicate that the lipid profile is an essential component captured by UPE with respect to stratifying subtypes of *** results suggest that metabolic differences exist among different TCM-based subtypes of pre-T2DM,and profiling plasma metabolites can be used to discriminate among these *** metabolomics thus provides biochemical insights into system-based UPE measurements.
