Uranium,rare metals,and granulite-facies metamorphism

During granulite-facies metamorphism of metasedimentary rocks by the infiltration of carbonic fluids, the disappearance of hydrated minerals leads to the liberation of aqueous fluids. These fluids are strongly enriched in F and c1, and a series of Large-lon-Lithophile （LIL） elements and rare metals, resulting in their depletion in granulites. To sum up the fate of these elements, we focus on three domains representing different crustal levels and showing distinct behaviours with respect to these elements. The Lapland metasedimentary granulites illustrate the behaviour of the LILE and rare metals during lower crustal metamorphism. There is no change in Ba, moderate loss in Rb, and extreme depletion in cs, Li, and Sn. F and cI contents are also very low compared to the protoliths or average upper continental crust. Biotite and amphibole breakdown leads to the incorporation of their partitioning into a fluid or a melt. The Tranomaro metasomatized marbles recrystallizing under granulite-facies conditions represent a demonstrative example of fluid transfer from granulite-facies supracrustals to traps represented by regional scale skarns. Such fluids may be at the origin of the incompatible element enrichment detected in leucosomes of migmatites from St Malo in Brittany （France） and Black Hills in South Dakota, The northern French Massif central provides us with an example of a potential association between incompatible element enrichment of granitic melts and granulite-facies metamorphism. U- and F- enriched fine-grained granites are emplaced along a crustal scale shear zone active during the emplacement within the St Sylvestre peraluminous leucogranitic complex, We propose that during granulite-facies metamorphism dominated by carbonic waves in a deep segment of the continental crust, these shear zones control：（i） the percolation of F-, LILE-, rare metal-rich fluids liberated primarily by the breakdown of biotite; （ii） the enhancement of partial melting by F-rich flui

Nano-engineering III-nitride semiconductors offers a route to further control the optoelectronic properties,enabling novel functionalities and *** a variety of lithography techniques are currently employed to nanoengineer these materials,the scalability and cost of the fabrication process can be an obstacle for large-scale *** this paper,we report on the use of a fast,robust and flexible emerging patterning technique called Displacement Talbot lithography(DTL),to successfully nano-engineer III-nitride ***,along with its novel and unique combination with a lateral planar displacement(D^(2)TL),allow the fabrication of a variety of periodic nanopatterns with a broad range of filling factors such as nanoholes,nanodots,nanorings and nanolines;all these features being achievable from one single *** illustrate the enormous possibilities opened by DTL/D2TL,dielectric and metal masks with a number of nanopatterns have been generated,allowing for the selective area growth of InGaN/GaN core-shell nanorods,the top-down plasma etching of III-nitride nanostructures,the top-down sublimation of GaN nanostructures,the hybrid top-down/bottom-up growth of AlN nanorods and GaN nanotubes,and the fabrication of nanopatterned sapphire substrates for AlN *** with their planar counterparts,these 3D nanostructures enable the reduction or filtering of structural defects and/or the enhancement of the light extraction,therefore improving the efficiency of the final *** results,achieved on a wafer scale via DTL and upscalable to larger surfaces,have the potential to unlock the manufacturing of nano-engineered III-nitride materials.

Sericostaehys seandens is a monocarpic and heliophilous liana, native in tropical African forests. In the montane forests of the Kahuzi-Biega National Park （KBNP）（East of DR congo）, it has been expanding very strongly for a decade, and is currently considered as having negative impacts on biodiversity conservation. In this paper, we test if S. scandens differs from three co-occurring, native, non spreading lianas （Gouania longispicata, Tacazzea apiculata and Adenia bequaertii） for functional traits which might influence plant expansion. For leaf traits （SLA, dry matter content, nitrogen concentration）, S. scandens did not show extreme values compared to those of the three other lianas. In contrast, S. scandens had much higher biomass allocation to sexual reproduction. It also differs from the three other lianas for its reproductive strategy that combines both vegetative propagation and sexual reproduct/on, and propagule dispersal by wind. Moreover, S. scandens has larger leaves and a greater number of lateral branches per unit stem length. It is argued that the particular combination of functional traits exhibited by *** may in part explain its propensity to behave as an opportunistic weed in the disturbed areas in the montane forests of Kahuzi-Biega.

To enhance the reproducibility and scale up the synthesis of colloidal quantum dots(QDs),continuous flow synthesis is an appealing alternative to the widely used batch *** other advantages,the strongly enhanced heat and mass transfer in small tubular reactors combined with controlled pressure can be ***,the widespread use of this technique is hampered by special requirements such as the absence of solid or gaseous products and the room-temperature solubility of ***,the transfer of established reaction conditions from batch to flow is not straightforward and in most reported works the optical properties of the obtained QDs lag behind those prepared in batch *** is also the case for PbS-based QDs,which are established near infrared(NIR)absorbers/*** we identified experimental conditions giving access to high-quality PbS core and PbS/cdS core/shell QDs obtained in an automated,easily scalable continuous flow *** particular,substituted thioureas have been selected as the sulfur source and ex-situ synthesized lead and cadmium oleate as the metal precursors,and appropriate solvent mixtures have been identified for each *** luminescent PbS/cdS QDs emitting at the target wavelengths 940 and 1130 nm of special interest for NIR light-emitting diodes have been prepared,exhibiting a photoluminescence quantum yield up to 91%.

A Business case for Flexible Housing： The Feasibility of Implementing Flexibility Measures in the Housing Market

Adaptive construction is already for decades on the agenda of the construction sector. The adaptive capacity of a building includes all qualities that enable the building keeping its functionality during the technical life cycle, under altered conditions and needs [1]. Meanwhile, the interest in flexible building has increased significantly caused by the growing awareness of the need for sustainability. The Dutch construction sector is responsible for 35% of the national waste production. This number emerges from a sector that accounts for 5.1% of the gross domestic product [2]. This paper reports about a study that was executed in collaboration with a Dutch real estate developer [3]. The purpose was to develop a successful business case for a flexible row house concept that could show the market under what conditions flexibility measures for future adaptations can be implemented. One of the main conclusions affirms that a long-lasting collaboration between a developer and the investor could result in a feasible business case if the developer stays involved during the use phase of the dwellings. Through many additional interviews, this research was able to let the real estate market reflect about the business case of flexible row housing.

Pozzolanic reactivity of silico-aluminous fly ash

For some years it has been possible to control the particle size of fly ashes, by-products of thermal power stations. Incorporating these very fine particles （obtained by grinding and/or pneumatic selection） improves the physical-mechanical characteristics of mortars and concretes. In this study, we measured the lime consumption of the various fractions （granulometric and densimetric） and identified by X-ray diffraction the neoformed phases by the pozzolanic reaction, to show that it is not sufficient to simply define the pozzolanicity of products based on lime consumption since it does not take into account the nature of the phases formed. The size of the particles used in the test samples also has a determining effect on the quantity of lime consumed. Before comparing results, it is necessary to ensure that the size of the particles （of the global ash and its constituents） be the same. Two distinct neoformed ohases appear： cSH in the largest granular fractions （d〉 40 μm） and c3AH6 in the smaller fractions.

DAM IMPAcTS ON AND RESTORATION OF AN ALLUVIAL RIVER-RIO GRANDE, NEW MEXIcO

The impact of construction of dams and reservoirs on alluvial rivers extends both upstream and downstream of the dam. Downstream of dams, both the water and sediment supplies can be altered leading to adjustments in the river channel geometry and ensuing changes in riparian and aquatic habitats. The wealth of pre and post-regulation data on the Middle Rio Grande, New Mexico, provides an excellent case study of river regulation, channel adjustments, and restoration efforts. cochiti Dam was constructed on the main stem of the Rio Grande in 1973 for flood control and sediment retention. Prior to dam construction, the Rio Grande was a wide, sandy braided river. Following dam construction, the downstream channel bed degraded and coarsened to gravel size, and the planform shifted to a more meandering pattern. Ecological implications of the geomorphic changes include detachment of the river from the floodplain, reduced recruitment of riparian cottonwoods, encroachment of non-native saltcedar and Russian olive into the floodplain, and degraded aquatic habitat for the Rio Grande silvery minnow. Recent restoration strategies include removal of non-native riparian vegetation, mechanical lowering of floodplain areas, and channel widening.
