An extensive database of reservoir sedimentation surveys throughout continental United States is compiled and analyzed to determine specific degradation SD relationships as function of mean annual rainfall R, drainage area A, and watershed slope S. The database contains 1463 field measurements and specific degradation relationships are defined as function of A, R and S. Weak trends and significant variability in the data are noticeable. Specific degradation measurements are log normally distributed with respect to R, A, and S and 95% confidence intervals are determined accordingly. The accuracy of the predictions does not significantly increase as more independent variables are added to the regression analyses.

Point velocity and suspended sediment concentration measurements are used to calculate the total sediment discharge in sand-bed *** with the Series Expansion of the Modified Einstein Point Procedure（SEMEPP） depend on grain diameter d;and settling velocity ω,flow depth h,shear velocity u*,and sampling depth h;.This procedure extends the applicability of the Modified Einstein Procedure（MEP） by using point sediment concentration and velocity *** procedure is tested using the laboratory data from Coleman,and field measurements from the Enoree,Middle Rio Grande and Mississippi *** on 801 point measurements over 124 verticals at flow depths ranging from 0.17 m to 33.5 m and sediment concentrations less than 0.1 kg L;,the accuracy of the calculations depends on u*/ω and h;/d;.Point measurement techniques like SEMEPP are well-suited when u*/ω> 5 where at least 60%of the total sediment load is measured when 90%of the flow depth is *** determination of sediment discharge from point measurements is most accurate in deep rivers when h;/d;> *** u*/ω>*** measurements are not well-suited for shallow rivers and laboratory flumes where h< 0.5 m and when u*/ω< 2.

＜正＞The log law and the log-wake law are widely used in open-channel flows. They nevertheless fail to replicate the velocity dip phenomena. Guo et al. recently proposed a modified log-wake law （MLWL） for pipe flows and zero-pressure-gradient turbulent boundary layers. The MLWL improves the conventional log-wake law by meeting the zero velocity gradient at the edge of boundary layer. This study shows that the MLWL properly describes the velocity distribution in non-uniform open-channel flows. The non-uniformity of the flow is equivalent to a pressure gradient and is reflected in the wake strength of the MLWL.

Penalty kicks are increasingly decisive in major international football ***,over 30%of shootout kicks are *** outcome of the kick often relies on the ability of the penalty taker to exploit anticipatory movements of the goalkeeper to redirect the kick toward the open side of the ***,this ability is difficult to train using classical *** used an augmented reality simulator displaying an holographic goalkeeper to test and train penalty kick performance with 13 young elite *** learning algorithms were used to optimize the learning rate by maintaining an optimal level of training *** training sessions of 20 kicks reduced the redirection threshold by 120 ms,which constituted a 28%reduction with respect to the baseline ***,redirection threshold reduction was observed for all trained players,and all things being equal,it corresponded to an estimated 35%improvement of the success rate.

Mid-spatial frequency wavefront deformation can be deleterious for the operation of high-energy laser systems. When fluid cooled high-repetition-rate amplifiers are used, the coolant flow is likely to induce such detrimental mid-spatial frequency wavefront deformations. Here, we describe the design and performance of a 90 mm × 90 mm aperture, liquid-cooled Nd:phosphate split-slab laser amplifier pumped by flash-lamps. The performance of the system is evaluated in terms of wavefront aberration and gain at repetition rates down to 1 shot per minute. The results show that this single cooled split-slab system exhibits low wavefront distortions in the medium to large period range, compatible with a focus on target, and despite the use of liquid coolant traversed by both pump and amplified wavelengths. This makes it a potential candidate for applications in large high-energy laser facilities.

There is a need to develop interventions to slow or reverse the degeneration of dopamine neurons in Parkinson’s disease after *** that preclinical and clinical studies suggest benefits of dietary n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids,such as docosahexaenoic acid,and exercise in Parkinson’s disease,we investigated whether both could synergistically interact to induce recovery of the dopaminergic ***,mice received a unilateral stereotactic injection of 6-hydroxydopamine into the striatum to establish an animal model of nigrostriatal *** weeks after lesion,animals were fed a docosahexaenoic acid-enriched or a control diet for the next 8 *** this period,the animals had access to a running wheel,which they could use or *** acid treatment,voluntary exercise,or the combination of both had no effect on(i)distance traveled in the open field test,(ii)the percentage of contraversive rotations in the apomorphine-induction test or(iii)the number of tyrosine-hydroxylase-positive cells in the substantia nigra pars ***,the docosahexaenoic acid diet increased the number of tyrosine-hydroxylase-positive terminals and induced a rise in dopamine concentrations in the lesioned *** to docosahexaenoic acid treatment or exercise alone,the combination of docosahexaenoic acid and exercise(i)improved forelimb balance in the stepping test,(ii)decreased the striatal DOPAC/dopamine ratio and(iii)led to increased dopamine transporter levels in the lesioned *** present results suggest that the combination of exercise and docosahexaenoic acid may act synergistically in the striatum of mice with a unilateral lesion of the dopaminergic system and provide support for clinical trials combining nutrition and physical exercise in the treatment of Parkinson’s disease.

Dear Editor,Rauvolfia tetraphylla(aka the Devil pepper)(Supplemental Figure 1)is a well-known medicinal plant that produces monoterpenoid indole alkaloids(MIAs).This MIA biosynthesis occurs in several organs,including leaves,stems,fruit,and roots,which accumulate the famous antiarrhythmic ajmaline(Kumar et al.2016a,2016b;Kumara et al.,2019).MIAs are natural products notably involved in plant adaptation to the environment and defense against *** mainly results from their high biological activities,which also explain their pharmacological properties.
