Characterisation of likelihood of gas hydrates occurrence in the South China Sea based on Bonferroni mean-based TOPSIS and fuzzy set theory

The efficiency of gas hydrate production depends on the success of gas exploration and occurrence evaluation.The existing evaluation models are generally univariate and only applicable to certain geological settings.This study presents a holistic approach to evaluate the likelihood of gas hydrate occurrence by supplying an index for mapping gas hydrate levels with depth.The approach integrates a generalised TOPSIS method with the fuzzy set theory.An expedition of gas hydrate conducted in the Shenhu area of the South China Sea was adopted as a case study to assess the reliability of the proposed index.As a multivariate model,the proposed approach enables the capture of non-linearity associated with gas hydrates in its entirety.The magnitude of the strength of the influential factor varies substantially from one site to another across the Shenhu area.The results also show that no site achieves the highest likelihood‘Level V’.These results are consistent with the gas saturation values obtained using Archie’s relationship.For example,at SH4 and SH7,the values of the likelihood index are the highest between 170–185 m and 150–165 m,respectively,and the observed saturation at these locations varies from 20%(SH4)to 43%(SH7).The proposed likelihood index yields a prominent ability to quantify the level of occurrence of gas hydrates with depth at different sites.It appears to be an efficient multicriteria system bound to improve the management of the gas production trial stage.

The construction of super-large tunnels generates various safety risks that can hamper the tunneling process and cause severe damages if not properly identified.This paper presents a case study on the identification and management of geological and environmental risks during the construction of the largest(a diameter of 15.8 m)slurry shield tunnel in China.Its ground conditions and settlement control were identified among the most challenging owing to a large area of mixed ground conditions,11 fault zones and tunneling under residential areas and the city’s Metro Lines 1 and 9.In response to the severity of these risks and challenges,novel monitoring systems,ground treatment,and safety management technologies were successfully implemented throughout the tunneling process.Further,a technical framework was proposed in this study to serve as a risk management guidance for analogous tunneling operations.

Artificial neural network optimized by differential evolution for predicting diameters of jet grouted columns

A novel and effective artificial neural network(ANN) optimized using differential evolution(DE) is first introduced to provide a robust and reliable forecasting of jet grouted column diameters.The proposed computational method adopts the DE algorithm to tackle the difficulties in the training and performance of neural networks and optimize the four quintessential hyper-parameters(i.***.the epoch size,the number of neurons in a hidden layer,the number of hidden layers,and the regularization parameter) that govern the neural network efficacy.This approach is further enhanced by a stochastic gradient optimization algorithm to allow ’expensive’ computation efforts.The ANN-DE is first trained using a prepared jet grouting dataset,then verified and compared with the prevalent machine learning tools,i.***.neural networks and support vector machine(SVM).The results show that,the ANN-DE outperforms the existing methods for predicting the diameter of jet grouting columns since it well balances training efficiency and model performance.Specifically,the ANN-DE achieved root mean square error(RMSE)values of 0.90603 and 0.92813 for the training and testing phases,respectively.The corresponding values were 0.8905 and 0.9006 for the optimized ANN,then,0.87569 and 0.89968 for the optimized SVM,respectively.The proposed paradigm is bound to be useful for solving various geotechnical engineering problems regardless of multi-dimension and nonlinearity.

Nutrition is one of the foundations for supporting and treating critically ill patients.Nutritional support providescalories,protein,electrolytes,vitamins,and trace elements via the enteral or parenteral route.Acute kidneyinjury(AKI)is a common and devastating problem in critically ill patients and has significant metabolic andnutritional consequences.Moreover,renal replacement therapy(RRT),whatever the modality used,also profoundly impacts metabolism.RRT and of the extracorporeal circuit impede‘effect the evaluation of a patient’senergy requirements by clinicians.Substrates added and removed within the extracorporeal treatment are notalways taken into consideration,making treatment even more challenging.Furthermore,evidence on nutritionalsupport during continuous renal replacement therapy(CRRT)is scarce,and there are no clinical guidelines fornutrition adaptations during CRRT in critically ill patients.Most recommendations are based on expert opinions.This review discusses the complex interaction between nutritional support and CRRT and presents somemilestones for nutritional support in critically ill patients on CRRT.

Evaluation of the Quality of Micturition in Patients Who Underwent Anastomotic Urethroplasty at the Yaounde Central Hospital, Cameroon

Introduction: Radiological investigation which is the gold standard to perform following anastomotic urethroplasty in order to evaluate the quality of micturition is costly. In our context, due to financial limitations, reconstructive urologists prefer to use the uroflowmetry in order to assess the micturition post-surgery. Therefore, the objective of the study was to assess the quality of micturition using the uroflowmetry after anastomotic urethroplasty. Methodology: We conducted an 11-year retrospective review (1st January 2006-31st December 2017) and a cross-sectional descriptive observational study for a period of 8 months (November 2017-June 2018) at the Urology and Andrology Department of the Yaounde Central Hospital (YCH) of patients who were diagnosed with urethral stenosis and underwent an anastomotic urethroplasty at the YCH. We excluded patients who had incomplete files, patients lost to follow-up and did not do pre-operative uroflowmetry. Quality of micturition was evaluated using a uroflowmetry. Data was analyzed using EPI info 7.0. Parametric variables were reported as means and standard deviations and percentages and counts were used to report categorical variables. Results: We had a sample of 60 patients. The mean age was 42 ± 5 years with extremes ranging from 20 to 76 years. Twenty-seven (27) patients, or 45%, had no post-operative complications, and those who did had a urinary tract infection (26.70%). In our series, we had 82% excellent results (patient satisfied with his urination with bell-shaped urinary stream and urinary flow greater than or equal to 15 ml/sec);15% good results (patient with moderate dysuria with average urinary stream and urinary flow between 10 and 14.9 ml/sec) and 3% poor results (severe dysuria with urinary flow less than 10 ml/sec, urinary retention or urinary incontinence). Introduction: Hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection is a major public health problem in Cameroon. Garoua city is the headquarters of the North Region of Cameroon, where the HBV prevalence is among the highest of the country. The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of HBsAg carriage and associated factors among persons incarcerated in the Garoua Central Prison. Methods: It was a cross-sectional study conducted from July 1 to July 31, 2023 at the Garoua Central prison. We included all prisoners willing to participate in the study and who gave their verbal consent. We collected data using a pre-established data entry form and we used rapid test for blood screening for HBV surface antigen (HBs Ag) with ELISA confirmation. Data were analyzed using the R® software for Windows. After the univariate analysis, we selected associated variables to HBV infection with p-value p-value was set at 5%. Results: We included 1389 prisoners out of which 97.6% were male. The median age (IQR) of the study population was 28 (23 - 35) years. The median (IQR) duration of incarceration was 12 (6 - 26) months and the mean (±sd) number of incarcerations was 1.24 (±0.6). HBV prevalence was estimated at 14.8% (95% CI: 13.0 - 16.7). Upon uni- and multivariate analysis, no risk factor was significantly associated with viral hepatitis B infection in our study population. Conclusion: The prevalence of Hepatitis B was high in the Garoua Central Prison, but there were no additional risk factors for HBV infection. There is a need to include the Garoua Central Prison and by the way other prisons in the country in the chronic viral hepatitis care program.

纺锤形桩靴在饱和土中贯入过程涉及土体极大变形和复杂的土、水、结构三者耦合作用,由于网格畸变问题,采用传统网格类数值方法很难进行模拟。SPH无网格法借助于一系列粒子进行插值,粒子与粒子之间无联系,将偏微分形式的控制方程转化为常微分方程组进行求解,可有效避免网格畸变问题。基于土-水-结构耦合SPH无网格算法,对桩靴在中密、密实砂土及饱和黏土中的连续贯入过程进行模拟,研究土体存在极大变形条件下桩靴贯入阻力、超孔隙水压力及总应力等物理量在贯入过程中的变化规律,并与CEL大变形有限元分析结果及室内离心机测值进行对比和分析。研究结果表明:采用土-水-结构耦合SPH算法可以准确地捕捉土、水混合物发生大变形时的自由面特征、贯入阻力、孔隙水压力及超孔隙水压力等物理量。

Polychronous automata and their use for formal validation of AADL models

This paper investigates how state diagrams can be best represented in the polychronous model of computation (MoC) and proposes to use this model for code validation of behavior specifications in architecture analysis & design language (AADL). In this relational MoC, the basic objects are signals, which are related through dataflow equations. Signals are associated with logical clocks, which provide the capability to describe systems in which components obey multiple clock rates. We propose a model of finite-state automata, called polychronous automata, which is based on clock relationships. A specificity of this model is that an automaton is submitted to clock constraints, which allows one to specify a wide range of control-related configurations, being either reactive or restrictive with respect to their control environment. A semantic model is defined for these polychronous automata, which relies on boolean algebra of clocks. Based on a previously defined modeling method for AADL software architectures using the polychronous MoC, the proposed model is used as a formal model for the AADL behavior annex. This is illustrated with a case study involving an adaptive cruise control system.

AIM: To evaluate the association between CYPIA1 and GSTs genetic polymorphisms and susceptibility to esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) and esophageal adenocarcinorna (ADC) in a high risk area of northwest of France.METHODS: A case-control study was conducted to investigate the genetic polymorphisms of these enzymes (CYPIAI*2C and GSTP1 exon 7 Val alleles, GSTM1 *2/*2 and GSl-l-l*2/*2 null genotypes). A total of 79 esophagealcancer cases and 130 controls were recruited. RESULTS: GSTM2*2/*2 and CYP1A1*1A/*2C genotype frequencies were higher among squamous cell cardnomas at a level close to statistical significance (OR = 1.83, 95% CI0.88-3.83, P= 0.11; OR = 3.03, 95% CI 0.93-9.90, P= 0.07,respectively). For GSTP1 polymorphism, no difference wasfound between controls and cases, whatever their histological status. Lower frequency of GST/-1 deletion was observed in ADC group compared to controls with a statistically significant difference (OR=13.31, 95% CI 1.66-106.92, P<0.01).CONCLUSION: In SCC, our results are consistent with the strong association of this kind of turnout with tobacco exposure. In ADC, our results suggest 3 distinct hypotheses:(1) activation of exogenous procarcinogens, such as small halogenated compounds by GSTTI', (2) contribution of GSTT1 to the inflammatory response of esophageal mucosa, which is known to be a strong risk factor for ADC,possibly through leukotriene synthesis; (3) higher sensitivity to the inflammatory process associated with intracellular depletion of glutathione.
