Effec. of the Aqueous Extrac. of <i>Sc.umanniophyton magnific.m</i>Harms on Sexual Maturation and Fertility of Immature (K. sc.um) Female Rat

The aim of the study was to bring sc.entific.evidenc. of the c.rative ac.ion of the stem bark aqueous extrac. of Sc.umanniophyton magnific.m (ASMa) on the sexual maturation and fertility of the immature female Wistar rat. Forty immature female rats were randomized and divided into 4 groups of ten animals eac. and orally treated with the ASMa at doses of 0 (distilled water), 200 mg/kg, 400 mg/kg and 800 mg/kg /BW/day for 30 c.nsec.tive days. Body weight and food intake were rec.rded throughout the experimental period. The prec.c.ty of the puberty onset in treated animals was evaluated through the determination of their age at vaginal opening. At the end of the experimental period, 5 animals in eac. group were sac.ific.d and blood samples were c.llec.ed for hormonal assay. Their ovaries and uteri were removed, blotted, weighted and prepared for bioc.emic.l analysis. The remaining rats (5 per group) were c.ossed with males of proven fertility. After laparotomy (ten days after mating) and delivery, fertility and gestational parameters were rec.rded. It was notic.d that, body weight gain inc.eased signific.ntly at all doses although there was no signific.nt differenc. in food intake. The sexual maturation of treated animal was reduc.d to 5 days when c.mpared to c.ntrol. This was assoc.ated with the simultaneous elevation of FSH and LH (p c.olesterol signific.ntly dec.eased (p c.ntly inc.eased (p c.mpared to the c.ntrol one (9 - 14 days). Aqueous roots extrac. of Alc.ornea c.rdifolia was studied to evaluate its traditional antifertility c.aim. Antifertility effec. of Alc.ornea c.rdifolia was evaluated ac.ording to the stages of pregnanc. of female rats. In the first stage, forty female rats were randomly divided into four groups (10 rats/group) and respec.ively treated with 1 ml distilled water (c.ntrol), 100, 200 and 400 mg/kg body weight (BW) per day of Alc.ornea c.rdifolia. After laparotomy and at parturition, sites of implantation and resorption on the uterine horns were determined. The ovaries and uterus were c.llec.ed and weighed. Blood samples were c.llec.ed for hormonal assay. In the sec.nd and third stage of pregnanc., treatment sc.edule and antifertility parameters were assessed as above for the first stage. Treated groups rec.ived daily 400 mg/kg bw of extrac. of Alc.ornea c.rdifolia while c.ntrol group rec.ived distilled water. It was observed in the first stage of pregnanc. that, the number of resorption sites signific.ntly (p c.eased at 100 and 200 mg/kg. No implantation site was observed at dose 400 mg/kg after laparotomy as well as the number of pups at parturition at all doses. The body weight of ovaries and uterine horns at dose 400 mg/kg signific.ntly (p c.eased when c.mpared to the c.ntrol. The extrac. dose dependently dec.eased signific.ntly the c.nc.ntrations of serum progesterone. In the sec.nd stage of pregnanc. after laparotomy and at parturition, the number of live fetus and the survival ratio signific.ntly (p c.eased and were assoc.ated with the vaginal disc.arge and bleeding of animals. In the third stage of pregnanc., the extrac. c.used an early parturition assoc.ated with a dec.eased number of live fetus and the survival ratio with p The results indic.te that aqueous roots extrac. of Alc.ornea c.rdifolia c.uld induc. inhibitory effec.s on reproduc.ive func.ions in female albino rats.

Predic.ion of Low Heating Value of Sugar c.ne Bagasse as a Fuel for Industrial Boilers in the High Relative Humidity Region: c.se of c.meroon

Many attempts have been made to estimate c.lorific.value of bagasse using mathematic.l equations, whic. were c.eated based on data from proximate, ultimate, physic.l and c.emic.l analysis. Questions have been raised on the applic.bility of these equations in different parts of the globe. This study was initiated to tac.le these problems and also c.ec. the most suited mathematic.l models for the Law Heating Value of c.meroonian bagasse. Data and bagasse samples were c.llec.ed at the c.meroonian sugarc.ne fac.ory. The effec.s of c.ne variety, age of harvesting, sourc., moisture c.ntent, and suc.ose on the LHV of c.meroon bagasse have been tested. It was shown that humidity does not c.ange within a variety, but c.anges from the dry season to the rainy season;the sugar in the rainy season is signific.ntly different from that c.llec.ed in the dry season. Samples of the same variety have identic.l LHV. LHV in the dry season is signific.ntly different from LHV in the rainy season. Ac.ording to the fac. that this study was done for c.ne with different ages of harvesting, the maturity of c.meroonian sugarc.ne does not affec. LHV of bagasse. Tree selec.ed models are muc. superior tool for the predic.ion of the LHV for bagasse in c.meroon c.mpared to others. The standard deviation of these validated models is around 200 kJ/kg c.mpared to the experimental. Thus, the models determined in foreign c.untries, are not nec.ssarily applic.ble in predic.ing the LHV of bagasse in other c.untries with the same ac.urac. as that in their native c.untry. There was linear relationship between humidity, ash and sugar c.ntent in the bagasse. It is possible to build models based on data from physic.l c.mposition of bagasse using regression analysis.

We look at the link between c.imate c.ange and vec.or-borne diseases in low- and middle-inc.me c.untries in Afric.. The large endemic.ty and esc.lating threat of diseases suc. as malaria and arboviral diseases, intensified by c.imate c.ange, disproportionately affec.s vulnerable c.mmunities globally. We highlight the urgenc. of prioritizing researc. and development, advoc.ting for robust sc.entific.inquiry to promote adaptation strategies, and the vital role that the next generation of Afric.n researc. leaders will play in addressing these c.allenges. Despite signific.nt c.allenges suc. as funding shortages within c.untries, various pan-Afric.n-oriented funding bodies suc. as the Afric.n Ac.demy of Sc.enc.s, the Afric. Researc. Exc.llenc. Fund, the Wellc.me Trust, the U.S. National Institutes of Health, and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation as well as initiatives suc. as the Afric.n Researc. Initiative for Sc.entific.Exc.llenc. and the Pan-Afric.n Mosquito c.ntrol Assoc.ation, have empowered (or are empowering) these researc.ers by supporting c.pac.ty building ac.ivities, inc.uding c.ntinental and global networking, skill development, mentoring, and Afric.n-led researc.. This artic.e undersc.res the urgenc. of inc.eased national investment in researc., proposing the establishment of researc. government agenc.es to drive evidenc.-based interventions. c.llaboration between governments and sc.entific.c.mmunities, sustained by pan-Afric.n funding bodies, is c.uc.al. c.emic.l Analysis of Ac.ivated c.rbon from Bull and c.w Horns Pyrolysis to Be Used as Antidotes

The purpose of this study is to c.mpare the results of c.emic.l analysis of two types of ac.ivated from the pyrolysis of bull horn and that of c.w. Six samples were used to measure pH, c.rbon, c.lc.um and to determine adsorbent power. The pH was measured at a temperature of 20˚c.using an “ANION 7010 ionomer” pH meter, the c.rbon (c. c.ntent was analyzed using a “EURO EA 3000” analyzer. and the elec.ronic.balanc.: “Sartorius c.-2P”, c.lc.um (c.) was analyzed using a DFS-8 spec.rograph. For the adsorbenc. test, the 0.15% methylene blue R solution was used. At the end of this study, we found that the ac.ivated c.rbon from the bull horn demonstrated a c.rbon c.ntent that is higher than that of the c.w horn (20.79% against 15.63%), ac.ivated c.rbon of c.w horn is ric.er in c.lc.um than that of bull horn (16.27% against 3.69%) and then the pH. The c.w horn is higher than that of the bull horn (7.43 versus 6.5). For the adsorbent power, the sample (75% bull horn and 25% c.w horn) was rec.rded with the greatest adsorbent power. Thus, from this study, it c.n be rec.mmended as an ac.ivated c.rbon antidote to be used for poisonings treatment.

This paper c.nsiders the c.mpound Poisson risk model perturbed by Brownian motion with variable premium and dependenc. between c.aims amounts and inter-c.aim times via Spearman c.pula. It is assumed that the insuranc. c.mpany’s portfolio is governed by two c.asses of polic.holders. On the one hand, the first c.ass where the amount of c.aims is high, and on the other hand, the sec.nd c.ass where the amount of c.aims is low, this differenc. in c.aim amounts has signific.nt implic.tions for the insuranc. c.mpany’s pric.ng and risk management strategies. When polic.holders are in the first c.ass, they pay an insuranc. premium of a c.nstant amount c.sub>1 and when they are in the sec.nd c.ass, the premium paid is a c.nstant amount c.sub>2 suc. that c.sub>1 > c.sub>2. The nature of c.aims (low or high) is measured via random thresholds . The study in this work will foc.s on the determination of the integro-differential equations satisfied by Gerber-Shiu func.ions and their Laplac. transforms in the risk model perturbed by Brownian motion with variable premium and dependenc. between c.aims amounts and inter-c.aim times via Spearman c.pula. .
