Systems Approach for Designing Cordierite Ceramic Converters for Automotive Emissions Control

The successful application of porous cordierite ceramic monolithic converters for automotive emissions control over the past 24 years in North America has been attributed to systems approach for optimizing the total converter package from reliability point of view. The systems approach examines the interaction between various components of monolithic converter package, namely the cordierite substrate, the alumina washcoat, the braided wire-rope end seals, the intumescent ceramic mat or steel wiremesh, and the stainless steel can, from long-term durability point of view. Such an approach has also proven successful in the Japanese, European, Korean and South American automotive industries. The key objectives of this paper are: i) to describe Corning′s methodology for assessing the impact of alumina washcoat on mechanical and thermal integrities of cordierite converter; ii) to examine the impact of mount density of ceramic mat or steel wiremesh on containment of cordierite converter against engine vibrations, gas pulsations and thermal gradients, and; iii) to analyze the impact of can design on strength and thermal shock resistance of cordierite converter. The above objectives will be illustrated by several examples of successful converter design for automobiles. This paper also addresses the Chinese automotive converter requirements and how they might be met via systems approach.

In this paper,a practical test and finite element analysis has been undertaken to further investigate the effects of contact buckling.A test rig was designed and constructed to record vertical and transverse deflections of compressively loaded steel skin *** boundary conditions were modeled as fully fixed.A finite element analysis was also undertaken using the software package *** from both analyses have been examined and compared to data established from previous studies on contact *** the finite element analysis and practical results correlate well with this *** result of the investigation has confirmed contact buckling theories and has foreshadowed the onset of the newly observed phenomenon of secondary contact buckling.

During the financial crisis, the delayed recognition of credit losses on loans and other financial instruments was identified as a weakness in existing incurred loss model of impairment stated by International Accounting Standards （IAS） 39, because it is believed that this delay might generate pro-cyclical effects. In response to the recommendations of G20, Financial Crisis Advisory Group （FCAG）, and other international bodies, the International Accounting Standards Board （IASB） has undertaken, since 2009, as a part of the project to replace IAS 39, a project （partially shared with Financial Accounting Standards Board （FASB）） aimed at introducing an expected loss model of impairment. Within the scope of this subset project, the IASB has previously issued two exposure documents proposing models to account for expected credit losses： an exposure draft （ED） Financial Instrument： Amortized Cost and Impairment, published in November 2009, and a supplementary document （SD） Financial Instrument： Impairment, published jointly with the FASB in January 2011. However, neither of the two proposals received strong support from interested parties. Recently, the IASB, after the FASB＇s decision to withdraw from the joint project and to develop a separate expected credit loss model based on a single measurement approach consisting in the sole recognition of lifetime expected credit losses, published a third proposal--Ahe so-called expected credit losses model （ED/2013/3 Financial Instruments： Expected Credit Losses）.

Background: Androgen insensitivity syndrome(AIS), a disorder of sexual development in 46, XY individuals, is caused by loss-of-function mutations in the androgen receptor(AR) gene. A variety of tumors have been reported in association with AIS, but no cases with colorectal cancer(CRC) have been *** presentation: Here, we present a male patient with AIS who developed multiple early-onset CRCs and his pedigree. His first cousin was diagnosed with AIS and harbored the same AR gene mutation, but with no signs of CRC. The difference in clinical management for the two patients was that testosterone treatment was given to the proband for a much longer time compared with the cousin. The CRC family history was negative, and no germline mutations in well-known CRC-related genes were identified. A single nucleotide polymorphism array revealed a microduplication on chromosome 22q11.22 that encompassed a micro RNA potentially related to CRC pathogenesis. In the proband, whole exome sequencing identified a polymorphism in an oncogene and 13 rare loss-of-function variants, of which two were in CRC-related genes and four were in genes associated with other human ***: By pathway analysis, all inherited germline genetic events were connected in a unique network whose alteration in the proband, together with continuous testosterone stimulation, may have played a role in CRC pathogenesis.

塞尔基奥(Serchio)山谷是意大利托斯卡纳地区地震危险性最高的地方之一。研究地球化学和水文过程是托斯卡纳区域政府资助的地震预防、预测试点项目的一部分,通过调查皮耶韦福斯切纳村附近的普拉迪拉马(Pra di Lama)的热水化学组成,评估该地点是否适合进行地震地球化学前兆监测。调查方案既利用了随机取水样调查的化学分析结果,还选用了自动化台站连续测定的物理化学参数。选定的物理化学参数的连续信号是利用一套专用参数传感器自动测量的。为定量描述在深部中生代含水层发生的水—岩相互作用,采用地球化学模拟技术处理了水中溶解的主要无机组分浓度。结合这些资料,确定了该地热系统的地球化学背景,并详细描述了补给泉水的地热水层的综合水文地质和地球化学模型。根据长时间观测的物理和地球化学参数的微小变化,在地下水较长、较深的循环路径中,局部地壳应变监测参数的位置敏感性以及对地震活动构造的相近性等,可以确定皮耶韦福斯切纳地热系统是确定流体可能与深部地震孕育过程中诱发的能量释放和渗透率变化有关的有利场所。本文提出的综合地质、水文地质、地球化学和建模方法有益于其他地方类似的工程设计。
