This case report describes the radiographic and ultrasonographic findings of three surgically confirmed cases of mesenteric volvulus or intestinal torsion in dogs. In all three cases, ultrasonographic findings included segmental ileus and absent or markedly reduced peristalsis of the affected small intestine, and partial loss of wall layering with increased overall echogenicity of the intestinal wall, but with normal to mildly increased wall thickening. No blood flow was detected in the affected small intestinal wall when assessed with colour Doppler. A moderate amount of peritoneal effusion was also detected with hyperechoic omental and mesenteric fat tissue throughout the peritoneal cavity. Few reports describe ultrasonographic findings of small intestinal ischemia in small animals. In all three cases presented here, ultrasound was helpful in demonstrating typical intestinal wall changes and helped to obtain the correct diagnosis of ischemic disease of the small intestine.

Dendritic cells(DCs)are indispensable for defense against pathogens but may also contribute to *** of DCs upon the sensing of pathogens by Toll-like receptors(TLRs)is largely mediated by pattern recognition receptor/nuclear factor-κB(NF-κB)signaling and depends on the appropriate ubiquitination of the respective signaling ***,the ubiquitinating and deubiquitinating enzymes involved and their interactions are only incompletely ***,we reveal that the deubiquitinase OTU domain,ubiquitin aldehyde binding 1(OTUB1)is upregulated in DCs upon murine Toxoplasma gondii infection and lipopolysaccharide *** of DCs with the TLR11/12 ligand *** profilin and the TLR4 ligand lipopolysaccharide induced an increase in NF-κB activation in OTUB1-competent cells,resulting in elevated interleukin-6(IL-6),IL-12,and tumor necrosis factor(TNF)production,which was also observed upon the specific stimulation of TLR2,TLR3,TLR7,and ***,OTUB1 promoted NF-κB activity in DCs by K48-linked deubiquitination and stabilization of the E2-conjugating enzyme UBC13,resulting in increased K63-linked ubiquitination of IRAK1(IL-1 receptor-associated kinase 1)and TRAF6(TNF receptor-associated factor 6).Consequently,DC-specific deletion of OTUB1 impaired the production of cytokines,in particular IL-12,by DCs over the first 2 days of *** infection,resulting in the diminished production of protective interferon-γ(IFN-γ)by natural killer cells,impaired control of parasite replication,and,finally,death from chronic ***,all of which could be prevented by low-dose IL-12 treatment in the first 3 days of *** contrast,impaired OTUB1-deficient DC activation and cytokine production by OTUB1-deficient DCs protected mice from lipopolysaccharide-induced ***,these findings identify OTUB1 as a potent novel regulator of DCs during infectious and inflammatory diseases.

Inflammatory bowel disease(IBD)includes Crohn’s disease(CD),ulcerative colitis and unclassified *** commonly involves the terminal ileum and colon but at the time of diagnosis it can be confined to the small bowel(SB)in about 30%of the patients,especially in the young *** of isolated SB-CD can be challenging and objective evaluation of the SB mucosa is essential in differentiating CD from other enteropathies to achieve therapeutic decisions and to plan the *** introduction of cross-sectional imaging techniques and capsule endoscopy(CE)have significantly expanded the ability to diagnose SB diseases providing a non-invasive test for the visualization of the entire SB *** main CE limitations are the low specificity,the lack of therapeutic capabilities and the impossibility to take *** assisted enteroscopy(DAE)enables histological confirmation when traditional endoscopy,capsule endoscopy and cross-sectional imaging are inconclusive and also allows therapeutic interventions such as balloon stricture dilation,intralesional steroid injection,capsule retrieval and more recently stent *** the current review we will discuss technical aspect,indications and safety profile of DAE in children and adults with IBD.

In this manuscript the authors have studied the various causes of vesico-vaginal fistula (VVF) and described etiology, clinical characteristics, and surgical outcome of VVF patients managed at CCBRT. They show that out of 155 patients 104 had surgery for VVF, 25 for stress incontinence (SI), 7 for perineal tears, 6 for recto-vaginal fistula (RVF) and 5 for other reasons, such as urethral strictures and bladder stones. They found a rate of 37 (35.58% out of 104 patients) with definitely iatrogenic fistula and therefore support the observation also made by others that there is a shift in etiology of VVF.

The Memorandum of Understanding Between the Government of the Republic of the Philippines and the Government of the People's Republic of China on Cooperation on the Belt and Road Initiative has been signed and will remain in effect until *** Philippines and China have agreed upon the idea that economic progress and development need not be a zero-sum game;and can be achieved through efforts in aiding developing countries "to help build stronger economies and therefore richer markets for the commercial and cultural exchanges"This has marked the beginning of a relationship which undergirds win-win cooperation and shared *** mutually-beneficial arrangements,specifically on infrastructure,has been seen to be in line with the Philippines'administration program called "Build Build Build".Entering the Age of Infrastructure,it aims to build 75 infrastructure projects including roads,bridges,airports,sea ports and *** the years,the Philippines has had many key partner countries to assist them in building infrastructure through Official Development *** ODA has proven to be successful,it wasn't without *** past issues may shed some light upon future *** this paper aims to answer what are the key issues of Philippine ODA in infrastructure?What are the lessons learned from these past relationships?How can this be applied in the relationship between China and the Philippines'involvement in the Belt and Road Initiative?Given the lessons learned from previous ODA assisted projects and past international political and economic relationship,this paper posits that this arena of international political economy-Belt and Road Initiative-can thrive between the Philippines and China.

What it is like when a lifelong twin relationship ends through death in later life is the focus of this study. It draws on interview data from seven twins who are part of a longitudinal Swedish twin study (SATSA) and who lost their co-twins in old age. Data were analyzed using qualitative latent content analysis. The results showed that the experience of loss of the co-twin was profound, including an emotional as well as a behavioral dimension. Loss and loneliness were expressed as the dominant feelings related to the quality of the missing relationship as well as the loss of twin identity. However, the grief experiences in this study were primarily related to the closeness and quality of the twin relationship, rather than identity. Behavioral adjustments included the use of outside as well as internal cognitive resources to cope with life after the loss. Despite the devastating experience of losing a co-twin after a lifelong relationship, the participants engaged actively in their own grief processes. It was concluded that twin loss is unique, in the sense of losing the relational twin identity, as well as it is characterized by similar features as the loss of a close relationship among non-twins.

An inverted triplesalen ligand by a convergent synthesis and its influence on trinuclear FeXII3 complexes

The inverted triplesalen ligand H6feldMehas been synthesized from 2,4,6-triformyl-phloroglucinol and a ketimine salen half-unit in a convergent synthesis. NMR, IR, and UV-vis spectroscopy reveal that this ligand is not in the O-protonated tautomer but in the N-protonated tautomer with substantial heteroradialene contribution. This ligand and the conventional triplesalen ligand H6talent-Bu2 have been used to synthesize the trinuclear FeⅢcomplexes [(feldMe)(FeCl)3] and [(talent-Bu2)(FeCl)3], respectively. The molecular structures of these complexes were obtained by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Two trinuclear FeⅢcomplexes of [(feldMe)(FeCl)3] dimerize via two Fe-phenolate bonds, whereas due to steric hindrance no dimerization is observed for [(talent-Bu2)(FeCl)3]. The structural data also reveal some heteroradialene contribution in the trinuclear complexes. Whereas UV-vis and M??bauer spectroscopy are not suitable to distinguish between the two complexes, FT-IR spectra show characteristic features due to the different substitution patterns of the conventional and the inverted triplesalen ligands. Another handle is provided by electrochemistry. Whereas both complexes exhibit an irreversible oxidation wave (0.94 V vs. Fc+/Fc for [(feldMe)(FeCl)3] and 0.84 V vs. Fc+/Fc for [(talent-Bu2)(FeCl)3]), which is assigned to the oxidation of the central backbone, higher potential oxidations are reversible for [(talent-Bu2)(FeCl)3]) but irreversible for [(feldMe)(FeCl)3]. This is attributed to the reversible oxidation of the terminal phenolates in the di-tert-butyl substituted [(talent-Bu2)(FeCl)3] in contrast to the mono-methyl-substituted phenolates in [(feldMe)(FeCl)3]. The magnetic properties of [(talent-Bu2)(FeCl)3] reveal a very small ferromagnetic coupling with significant zero-field splitting of the FeⅢS = 5/2 ions. In contrast, the dimerization of two trinuclear complexes in [(feldMe)(FeCl)3] results in antiferromagnetic interactions between the two phenolate-bridged

In order to study the karstological processes within the karst ecological system,the geohazards and degradation of karst landscapes on the karst areas of the Bakony mountains(Hungary),we investigated the abiotic elements of the environment,soil and cover deposits,erosion soil decay;the changes in the quantity and quality of karst waters:contamination at swallow holes,contamination of karst springs;and the biogenic factors:surface vegetation coverage by the corine land cover method,plant-ecological examinations,qualification of surface waters with the help of biological water *** recognized that the increasing human activities during the past few centuries have had significant impact on the investigated landscapes of karst areas because of their spatial *** the scope of our research we concluded that the landscape changes due to natural and human effects can vary strongly on the different karst *** differences can arise from the climatic and geomorphologic situation,the coverlayer's qualities,etc.,but primarily from the different utilization of the investigated karst areas(*** intensity,characteristics and territorial extension of utilization).On the spot investigation we detected traces of new and fast geomorphological processes(gully formation,landslides,collapses,new sinkhole development) and landforms(sinkholes,gullies,swallow holes),which are clear evidences of the effect of climatic changes.
