An isogeometric approach to free vibration analysis of bi-directional functionally graded porous doubly-curved shallow microshells with variable length-scale parameters

This study uses iso-geometric investigation,which is based on the non-uniform rational B-splines(NURBS)basis function,to investigate natural oscillation of bi-directional functionally graded porous(BFGP)doublycurved shallow microshells placed on Pasternak foundations with any boundary conditions.The characteristics of the present material vary in both thickness and axial directions along the x-axis.To be more specific,a material length-scale coefficient of the microshell varies in both thickness and length directions as the material's mechanical properties.One is able to develop a differential equation system with varying coefficients that regulate the motion of BFGP double-curved shallow microshells by using Hamilton principle,Kirchhoff-Love hypothesis,and modified couple stress theory.The numerical findings are reported for thin microshells that are spherical,cylindrical,and hyperbolic paraboloidal,with a variety of planforms,including rectangles and circles.The validity and effectiveness of the established model are shown by comparing the numerical results given by the proposed formulations with previously published findings in many specific circumstances.In addition,influences of length scale parameters,power-law indexes,thickness-to-side ratio,and radius ratio on natural oscillation responses of BFGP microshells are investigated in detail.

Prognostic value of N-terminal pro B-type natriuretic peptide and troponin Ⅰ in children with dengue shock syndrome

Objective:To investigate the contribution of N-terminal pro B-type natriuretic peptide(NT-pro BNP)and troponin Ⅰ to mortality in children with dengue shock syndrome.Methods:A longitudinal study was conducted on children with dengue shock syndrome in a hospital in southern Vietnam.Detailed clinical histories,physical examinations,and laboratory parameters,including NT-pro BNP and troponin Ⅰ,were recorded.A comparison between survival and non-survival was carried out to identify factors influencing mortality.Results:A total of 107 patients with a median age of 9 years were included in the study.Among them,63.6%(68/107)presented with compensated shock,36.4%(39/107)had hypotensive shock,23.4%(25/107)required mechanical ventilation,and 12.1%(13/107)died.The NT-pro BNP levels were 3.9 pmol/L(IQR:1.9,10.3)and 15.2 pmol/L(5.8,46.3),while the median high sensitivity troponin Ⅰ levels were 20 pg/L(6,95)and 62 pg/L(12,325)at the first and second measurements,respectively.The mortality group exhibited higher rates of hypotensive shock,prolonged shock,lactate levels,liver damage,NT-pro BNP,and troponin Ⅰ levels.Hypotensive shock(OR 12.96,95%CI 2.70-62.30,P=0.004),prolonged shock(OR 39.40,95%CI 6.68-232.70,P1000 IU/L(OR 9.50,95%CI 2.63-34.34,P=0.041),and NT-pro BNP>7 pmol/L(OR 44.40,95%CI 5.44-362.20,P=0.001)were identified as predictive factors for mortality in dengue shock syndrome.Conclusions:The NT-pro BNP level could serve as a potential biomarker for predicting mortality in children with dengue shock syndrome.

Building the ARIMA Model for Forecasting the Production of Vietnam’s Coffee Export

Coffee is a significant industry, accounting for 3% of Vietnam’s GDP, with annual export turnover consistently exceeding USD 3 billion. Despite global economic challenges affecting purchasing power at various times, Vietnam’s coffee exports in December 2023 continued to surge, reaching the highest level in the past 9 months at 190,000 tons, a 59.3% increase compared to November 2023, but still a slight 3.5% decrease from the same period last year. The export turnover reached USD 538 million, a 51% increase from November 2023 and a 26.4% increase from the same period last year. Therefore, forecasting the coffee export volume holds significant importance for coffee producers nationwide. This research employs the Box-Jenkins method to construct an ARIMA model for forecasting Vietnam’s coffee export volume based on annual data published by the General Statistics Office. Results indicate that among the models considered, the ARIMA(1, 1, 2) model is the most suitable. The study also provides short-term forecasts for Vietnam’s coffee export volume. However, the current model is limited to forecasting and is not yet optimized, as the assumed linearity in the model is a simplification.

Plant anatomy is patterned early during leaf development which suggests studying the spatial–temporal transcriptomes of primordia will help identify critical regulative and functional genes.We successfully isolated the leaf primordia tissues from the C3grass rice and the C4grass foxtail millet by laser capture microdissection(LCM)and studied the gene expression throughout leaf developmental stages.Our data analysis uncovered the conserved expression patterns of certain gene clusters both in rice and foxtail millet during leaf development.We revealed genes and transcription factors involved in vein formation,stomatal development,and suberin accumulation.We identified 79 candidate genes associated with functional regulation of C4anatomy formation.Screening phenotype of the candidate genes revealed that knock-out of a putative polar auxin transport related gene NAL1 resulted significantly reduced veinal space in rice leaf.Our present work provides a foundation for future analyses of genes with novel functions in grasses and their role in leaf development,in particular the role in leaves with a contrasting C3vs.C4biosynthetic pathway.

An updraft gasifier was employed to treat 3 kg of dried rice husk per batch with different types of gasifying agents such as air,steam/air,and air with dolomite catalyst addition at various operating conditions.The H2 content,low heating value,and H2/CO ratio in syngas were compared to determine the most effective solution to enhance the H2 production from rice husk gasification.The presence of dolomite in air gasification produced the highest H2 content in the product gas,up to 15.4 mol%,followed by 7.08 and 3.6 mol%when steam/air and air standalone were used as gasifying agents,respectively.The higher low heating value of syngas 5.1 MJ/Nm3 was observed in catalytic air gasification compared to 3.6 MJ/Nm3 when steam was added.The optimal operation condition was reported at an airflow rate of 3 m3/h and a catalyst mixing ratio of 15%.

Plant-derived vesicles(PDVs)are membranous structures that originate from plant cells and are responsible for multiple physiological and pathological functions.In the last decade,PDVs have gained much attention for their involvement in different biological processes,including intercellular communication and defense response,and recent scientific evidence has opened a new avenue for their applications in cancer treatment.Nevertheless,much remains unknown about these vesicles,and current research remains inconsistent.This review aims to provide a comprehensive introduction to PDVs,from their biological characteristics to purification methods,and to summarize the status of their potential development for cancer therapy.

Transfer Learning for Disease Diagnosis from Myocardial Perfusion SPECT Imaging

Coronary artery disease(CAD)is one of the most common pathological conditions and the major global cause of death.Myocardial perfusion imaging(MPI)using single-photon emission computed tomography(SPECT)is a non-invasive method and plays an essential role in diagnosing CAD.However,there is currently a shortage of doctors who can diagnose using SPECT-MPI in developing countries,especially Vietnam.Research on deploying machine learning and deep learning in supporting CAD diagnosis has been noticed for a long time.However,these methods require a large dataset and are therefore time-consuming and labor-intensive.This study aims to develop a cost-effective and high-performance CAD classification model to support doctors in these countries.In this paper,we propose a transfer learning framework for a multi-stage training process with different learning rates.The process consists of two training stages:a warming up stage in which all layers of a pre-trained model(on ImageNet dataset)are frozen;and a finetuning stage in which a small amount of the top layers are unfrozen and then retrained with a lower learning rate.The dataset for this study consists of the polar maps from 218 patients.Various popular CNN-based pre-trained models have been investigated,and ResNet152V2-based model has obtained the highest performances with an accuracy of 95.5%,area under the receiver operating characteristic curve(AUC)score 0.932,sensitivity 94.4%,precision 96.4%,and F1-score 95.2%.These performances are competitive or even better than all state-of-the-art approaches in terms of classification accuracy and sensitivity.We also apply the class activation mapping technique to help explain the model’s predictions and increase the model’s reliability,proving capable of assisting the SPECT image readers in the CAD diagnosis.

Land-Use Changes and Human Driving in and Near the Yangtze River Delta from 1995–2015

We analyzed the characteristics and trends of land-use change in and near the coastal zone of the Yangtze River Delta(YRD) during five periods(1995, 2000 2005, 2010, and 2015) using remotely sensed Landsat imagery. Using automatic supervised classification combined with visual interpretation, we obtained land-use information for five study areas(Nantong, Shanghai, Jiaxing, Ningbo, and Zhoushan). Significant land-use changes have occurred in this area between 1995 and 2015, characterized in particular by large reductions in cultivated land and rapid increases in urbanized land. In addition, land reclamation was very active in this period as an effective supplement to the increased demand for land development: since 1995, 1622 km^2 of land was reclaimed from near-coastal regions in the study area. This increase in urbanization was jointly driven by population, economic, transportation, and policy factors. Urban areas expanded from the center outward in concentric rings, with infrastructure guiding the radial expansion of development along transportation corridors, thus forming a network of connections. Due to the influence of national land regulation policies, the expansion rate of development in the YRD gradually diminished after 2010. This indicates that the area's resource and environmental carrying capacity has reached a saturation stage in which urbanization has transitioned from broad and incremental expansion to the intensive use of land resources.

The demand of higher energy density and higher power capacity of lithium（Li）-ion secondary batteries has led to the search for electrode materials whose capacities and performance are better than those available today. Carbon nanotubes（CNTs）, with their unique properties such as 1D tubular structure, high electrical and thermal conductivities, and extremely large surface area, have been used as materials to prepare cathodes for Li-ion batteries. The structure and morphology of CNTs were analyzed by X-ray diffraction（XRD）, scanning electron microscopy（SEM）, and transmission electron microscopy（TEM）. The functional groups on the purified CNT surface such as –COOH, –OH were characterized by Fourier Transform infrared spectroscopy. The electrode materials were fabricated from LiMn2O4（LMO）, doped spinel LiNi0.5Mn1.5O4, and purified CNTs via solid-state reaction. The structure and morphology of the electrode were characterized using XRD, SEM, and TEM. Finally, the efficiency of the electrode materials using CNTs was evaluated by cyclic voltammetry and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy.

Background:Bacillary dysentery(BD)is an acute bacterial infection of the intestine caused by Shigella spp.,with clinical symptoms ranging from fever to bloody diarrhoea to abdominal cramps to tenesmus.In Vietnam,enteric bacterial pathogens are an important cause of diarrhoea and most cases in children under 5 years of age are due to Shigella strains.The serogroups S.flexneri and S.sonnei are considered to be the most common.The main objective of this study was to,for the first time,assess the seasonal patterns and geographic distribution of BD in Vietnam,and to determine the climate risk factors associated with the incidence of BD in Kon Tum Province,where the highest rate of bacillary dysentery was observed from 1999 to 2013.Methods:The seasonal patterns and geographic distribution of BD was assessed in Vietnam using a seasonaltrend decomposition procedure based on loess.In addition,negative binomial regression models were used to determine the climate risk factors associated with the incidence of BD in Kon Tum Province,from 1999 to 2013.Results:Overall,incidence rates of BD have slightly decreased over time(except for an extremely high incidence in 2012 in the north of Vietnam).The central regions(north/south central coast and central highlands)had relatively high incidence rates,whereas the northwest/east and Red River Delta regions had low incidence rates.Overall,seasonal plots showed a high peak in the mid-rainy reason and a second smaller peak in the early or late rainy season.The incidence rates significantly increased between May and October(“wet season”)across the country.In Kon Tum Province,temperature,humidity,and precipitation were found to be positively associated with the incidence of BD.Conclusions:Our findings provide insights into the seasonal patterns and geographic distribution of BD in Vietnam and its associated climate risk factors in Kon Tum Province.This study may help clinicians and the general public to better understand the timings of outbreaks and therefore equip them with the knowledge
