The use of high-power lights during night-time purse seining is common in Vietnam.Typically,metal halide(MH)lamps are used in the commercial fishery to attract fish,however these lights require more energy,have a shorter lifespan,and lower chromatic performance than light emitting diode(LEd)lamps.This study examined catch efficiency and fuel consumption when using LEd lamps in combination with reduced numbers of MH lamps(10.24 kW),compared to conventional lighting(28.6 kW),used during purse seining off the coast of Ninh Thuan province,Vietnam.The economic performance associated with using LEd lamps in this fishery was also assessed.We found no significant differences in catch rates between the different light treatments,however fuel consumption was significantly reduced.Fuel consumption per nightly trip using LEd with MH lamps was 70.8 l(11.1 l/h)compared to114 l(17.45 l/hr)using MH lamps alone,an estimated 37.9%reduction in fuel consumption.An investment in LEd lamps by a fishing enterprise will require additional initial costs,however our analysis revealed the financial break-event point can be reached after approximately 101 nightly trips when the fuel price is at the 2015 level of USd$0.74 per l.Fishing enterprises can increase their profitability,and reduce CO2 emissions,by using LEd lamps in the Vietnamese purse seine fishery.

In this work,a novel refined higher-order shear deformation plate theory is integrated with nonlocal elasticity theory for analyzing the free vibration,bending,and.transient behaviors of fluid-infiltrated porous metal foam piezoelectric nanoplates resting on Pasternak elastic foundation with flexoelectric effects.Isogeometric analysis(IGA)and the Navier solution are applied to the problem.The innovation in the present study is that the influence of the in-plane variation of the nonlocal parameter on the free and forced vibration of the piezoelectric nanoplates is investigated for the first time.The nonlocal parameter and material characteristics are assumed to be material-dependent and vary gradually over the thickness of structures.Based on Hamilton’s principle,equations of motion are built,then the IGA approach combined with the Navier solution is used to analyze the static and dynamic response of the nanoplate.Lastly,we investigate the effects of the porosity coefficients,flexoelectric parameters,elastic stiffness,thickness,and variation of the nonlocal parameters on the mechanical behaviors of the rectangular and elliptical piezoelectric nanoplates.

An analytical method for analyzing the thermal vibration of multi-directional functionally graded porous rectangular plates in fluid media with novel porosity patterns is developed in this study.Mechanical properties of MFG porous plates change according to the length,width,and thickness directions for various materials and the porosity distribution which can be widely applied in many fields of engineering and defence technology.Especially,new porous rules that depend on spatial coordinates and grading indexes are proposed in the present work.Applying Hamilton's principle and the refined higher-order shear deformation plate theory,the governing equation of motion of an MFG porous rectangular plate in a fluid medium(the fluid-plate system)is obtained.The fluid velocity potential is derived from the boundary conditions of the fluid-plate system and is used to compute the extra mass.The GalerkinVlasov solution is used to solve and give natural frequencies of MFG porous plates with various boundary conditions in a fluid medium.The validity and reliability of the suggested method are confirmed by comparing numerical results of the present work with those from available works in the literature.The effects of different parameters on the thermal vibration response of MFG porous rectangular plates are studied in detail.These findings demonstrate that the behavior of the structure within a liquid medium differs significantly from that within a vacuum medium.Thereby,they offer appropriate operational approaches for the structure when employed in various mediums.

Potential changes in the symbiotic relationship between rice(Oryza sativa)and microorganisms have occurred during the domestication of Asian cultivated rice(O.sativa)from common wild rice(Oryza rufipogon)and in response to global climate change,along with evolving adaptations to the environment.The potential genes may express differently or dominate the symbiotic relationships between arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi(AMF)and plants,which may be beneficial to rice breeding.To date,research on this important topic has been limited.In this study,we aimed to examine the symbiotic relationships of Asian common wild and cultivated rice species with AMF.By conducting a comparative metagenomic analysis of the rhizospheres of wild and cultivated rice species,we identified differences in Rhizophagus intraradices-related genes associated with wild and cultivated rice,as well as functional genes of AMF.Furthermore,we obtained root-related genes associated with AMF from transcriptome data of rice roots.Our results collectively suggest that R.intraradices-related genes in the rhizosphere of wild rice may be more conducive to its colonization.Additionally,bacteria from the Nitrosomonadaceae and Nitrospiraceae families identified in the rhizosphere of wild rice exhibited positive correlations with R.intraradices-related genes with protein identifiers 1480749 and1871253,which may indicate that nitrobacteria can enhance the functions of R.intraradices in association with wild rice.Next,in a case study using comparative transcriptome analysis of root samples obtained from R.intraradices-inoculated wild and cultivated rice plants,we found significantly higher expression levels of the strigolactone pathway-related genes dWARF3(d3)and dWARF14(d14)in R.intraradices-inoculated common wild rice than in R.intraradices-inoculated cultivated rice.This study provides a theoretical basis for identifying the effects of domestication on mycorrhizal symbiosis-related genes,which could be promoted in wild rice in the future.

BACKGROUNd Smartwatches have become readily accessible tools for detecting atrial fibrillation(AF).There remains limited data on how they affect psychosocial outcomes and engagement in older adults.We examine the health behavior outcomes of stroke survivors prescribed smartwatches for AF detection stratified by age.METHOdS We analyzed data from the Pulsewatch study,a randomized controlled trial that enrolled patients(≥50 years)with a history of stroke or transient ischemic attack and CHA2dS2-VASc≥2.Intervention participants were equipped with a cardiac patch monitor and a smartwatch-app dyad,while control participants wore the cardiac patch monitor for up to 44 days.We evaluated health behavior parameters using standardized tools,including the Consumer Health Activation Index,the Generalized Anxiety disorder questionnaire,the 12-Item Short Form Health Survey,and wear time of participants categorized into three age groups:Group 1(ages 50-60),Group 2(ages 61-69),and Group 3(ages 70-87).We performed statistical analysis using a mixedeffects repeated measures linear regression model to examine differences amongst age groups.RESULTS Comparative analysis between Groups 1,2 and 3 revealed no significant differences in anxiety,patient activation,perception of physical health and wear time.The use of smartwatch technology was associated with a decrease in perception of mental health for Group 2 compared to Group 1(β=-3.29,P=0.046).CONCLUSION Stroke survivors demonstrated a willingness to use smartwatches for AF monitoring.Importantly,among these study participants,the majority did not experience negative health behavior outcomes or decreased engagement as age increased.

Radiative decays d((s))*→d((s))γare revisited in light of new experimental data from the BaBar and BESⅢCollaborations.The radiative couplings gd*dγencoding nonperturbative QCd effects are calculated in the framework of the covariant confined quark model developed by us.We compare our results with other theoretical studies and experimental data.The couplings(in GeV-1)|g(d*+d+γ)|=0.45(9)and|g(d*0d0γ)|=1.72(34)calculated in our model agree with the corresponding experimental data|g(d*+d+γ)|=0.47(7)and|g(d*0d0γ)|=1.77(16).The most interesting case is the decay ds*→dsγ,for which a recent prediction based on light-cone sum rules at next-to-leading order|gds*dsγ|=0.60(19)deviates from the first(and only to date)lattice QCd result|gds*dsγ|=0.11(2)at nearly3σ.Our calculation yields|gds*dsγ|=0.29(6),which falls somehow between the two mentioned results,although it is larger than those predicted in other studies using quark models or QCd sum rules.

The main objective of this study is to further extend the mixed integration smoothed quadrilateral element with 20 unknowns of displacement(MISQ20)to investigate the nonlinear dynamic responses of functionally graded carbon nanotube-reinforced composite(FG-CNTRC)plates with four types of carbon nanotube distributions.The smooth finite element method is used to enhance the accuracy of the Q4 element and avoid shear locking without using any shear correction factors.This method yields accurate results even if the element exhibits a concave quadrilateral shape and reduces the error when the element meshing is rough.Additionally,the element stiffness matrix is established by integrating the boundary of the smoothing domains.The motion equation of the FG-CNTRC plates is solved by adapting the Newmark method combined with the Newton–Raphson algorithm.Subsequently,the calculation program is coded in the MATLAB software and verified by comparing it with other published solutions.Finally,the effects of the input parameters on the nonlinear vibration of the plates are investigated.

Spiritual Forests—A Nature Conservation Model of Ethnic Minority Communities in Central Viet Nam

This paper aims to analyze and evaluate a model of forest conservation and management of ethnic minority (or indigenous) people in central Vietnam, often referred to as the spiritual forest. These forests, called sacred forest or ghost forests by the ethnic minority people in Thua Thien Hue province, have existed for a long time among forest residents. However, they have recently declined, both in quality and quantity, due to various factors, including changes in society, economy, environment, and perception, among other reasons. Based on research conducted in A Luoi district, Thua Thien Hue province with household interviews, group discussions, and field surveys, we find that spiritual forest retains religious and human significance. They are also often among the last remaining natural forests left due to deforestation by human activities. The research results indicate challenges that conservation of spiritual forest may face, while giving recommendations derived from communities for sustainable forest development and conservation in the region.

We report the design, fabrication, and characterization of a universal silicon PN junction ring resonator for C band error-free communication links operated up to 50 Gb/s with co-designed optical modulation and detection performance. The universal p-n junction ring device shows co-designed detection responsivity up to 0.84 A/W, in conjunction with a modulation efficiency of -4 V·mm and>8 d B optical modulation extinction ratio, enabling C band 50 Gb/s NRZ communication link with a bit error rate≤3×10^(-12).

This paper for first time proposes an isogeometric analysis (IGA) for free vibration response of bi-directional functionally graded (BdFG) rectangular plates in the fluid medium. Material properties of the BdFG plate change in both the thickness and length directions via power-law distributions and Mori-Tanaka model. The governing equation of motion of BdFG plate in the fluid-plate system is formulated basing on Hamilton's principle and the refined quasi three-dimensional (3d) plate theory with improved function f(z). The fluid velocity potential is derived from the boundary conditions of the fluid-plate system and is used to determine the added mass. The discrete system of equations is derived from the Galerkin weak form and numerically analyzed by IGA. The accuracy and reliability of the proposed solutions are verified by comparing the obtained results with those published in the literature. Moreover, the effects of the various parameters such as the interaction boundary condition, geometric parameter, submerged depth of plate, fluid density, fluid level, and the material volume control coefficients on the free vibration behavior of BdFG plate in the fluid medium are investigated in detail. Some major findings regarding the numerical results are withdrawn in conclusions.
