Few global syntheses of oxygen and carbon isotope composition of pedogenic carbonates have been attempted,unlike marine *** carbonates represent in-situ indicators of the climate conditions prevailing on *** δ^(18)O and δ^(13)C values of pedogenic carbonates are controlled by local and global factors,many of them not affecting the marine carbonates largely used to probe global climate *** compile pedogenic oxygen and carbon isotopic data(N=12,167)fromCretaceous to Quaternary-aged paleosols to identify potential trends through time and tie them to possible controlling *** discrete events such as the Paleocene-Eocene Thermal Maximum are clearly evidenced,our analysis reveals an increasing complexity in the distribution of the δ^(18)O vs δ^(13)C values through the *** could be expected,the rise of C4 plants induces a shift towards higherδ13C values during the Neogene and *** also show that the increase in global hypsometry during the Neogene plays a major role in controlling the δ^(18)O and δ^(13)C values of pedogenic carbonates by increasing aridity downwind of orographic ***,during the Quaternary,an increase of 3‰in δ^(18)O values is recorded both by the pedogenic carbonates and the marine foraminifera suggesting that both indicators may be used to track global climate signal.

Volcano-shaped microelectrodes have demonstrated superior performance in measuring attenuated intracellular action potentials from cardiomyocyte cultures. However, their application to neuronal cultures has not yet yielded reliable intracellular access. This common pitfall supports a growing consensus in the field that nanostructures need to be pitched to the cell of interest to enable intracellular access. Accordingly, we present a new methodology that enables us to resolve the cell/probe interface noninvasively through impedance spectroscopy. This method measures changes in the seal resistance of single cells in a scalable manner to predict the quality of electrophysiological recordings. In particular, the impact of chemical functionalization and variation of the probe’s geometry can be quantitatively measured. We demonstrate this approach on human embryonic kidney cells and primary rodent neurons. Through systematic optimization, the seal resistance can be increased by as much as 20-fold with chemical functionalization, while different probe geometries demonstrated a lower impact. The method presented is therefore well suited to the study of cell coupling to probes designed for electrophysiology, and it is poised to contribute to elucidate the nature and mechanism of plasma membrane disruption by micro/nanostructures.

For more than 7 years,our research work is focussed upon the electrical behavior of carbon fiber reinforced *** carbon/polymeric matrix laminates can be considered as an electri-cally conductive network(*** fibers)embedded in an insulat-ing medium(*** polymeric matrix).Consequently,from an electrical point of view laminated composites have been modelled owing to combinations of electrical resistances(*** themselves and the contact points between the fibers)and capacitances(*** matrix).During their manufacturing,composite material such as thermoset matrix composites for instance,undergo various changes in their physical(including electrical and mechanical)prop-erties and in their geometrical *** fact,in the case of manufacturing processes such as oven curing(vacuum bag),auto-clave curing or heating plate press,beside the chemo-rheologi-cal changes,the laminated parts are the place of a compaction phenomenon inducing changes in fiber volume fraction and *** idea developed in this paper is that since the carbon/polymeric matrix laminate can be considered as an electrical network,it can then be view and used as a sensor for following the material state during the manufacturing process enabling thus defects to be detected and this without any additional sensing material or device.

Furfurylation is a well-known wood modification *** paper studied the effect of tannin addition on the wood *** kinds of dicarboxylic acids,adipic acid,succinic acid,and tartaric acid,as well as glyoxal as a comparing agent,were used to catalyse the polymerisation of furanic or tannin-furanic solutions during wood *** of furanic or tannin-furanic solution at a certain concentration into the wood followed with curing at 103℃for a specific duration was performed for the wood *** properties of the modified woods like dimensional stability,resistance of treatment to leaching,mechanical properties,decay durability against white-rot(Coriolus versicolor,Pycnoporus sanguineus)and brown-rot(Coniophora puteana)as well as their chemical and anatomical characteristics were *** revealed that the partial substitution of FA by the tannins improved the fixation of the chemicals impregnated in ***,dimensional stability,leaching resistance,Brinell hardness,modulus of elasticity/modulus of rupture,and decay durability properties of the furfurylated wood were also improved in the presence of *** electron microscopy revealed the deposition of the polymer in the wood lumen cells and in the wood cell walls.
