Digital maps of soil properties are now widely ***-users now can access several digital soil mapping(DSM)products of soil properties,produced using different models,calibration/training data,and covariates at various spatial scales from global to ***,there is an urgent need to provide easy-to-understand tools to communicate map uncertainty and help end-users assess the reliability of DSM products for use at local *** this study,we used a large amount of hand-feel soil texture(HFST)data to assess the performance of various published DSM products on the prediction of soil particle size distribution in central *** tested four DSM products for soil texture prediction developed at various scales(global,continental,national,and regional)by comparing their predictions with approximately 3200 HFST observations realized on a 1:50000 soil survey conducted after release of these DSM *** used both visual comparisons and quantitative indicators to match the DSM predictions and HFST *** comparison between the low-cost HFST observations and DSM predictions clearly showed the applicability of various DSM products,with the prediction accuracy increasing from global to regional *** simple evaluation can determine which products can be used at the local scale and if more accurate DSM products are required.

3D numerical simulation of seagrass movement under waves and currents with GPUSPH

The current study tries a new approach to simulating interactions between waves and seagrass through Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics(SPH). In this model, the plants are defined as a solid that respects Hooke’s law, and are assumed to have direct interaction with the fluid. Given the characteristics of the SPH method, especially in terms of computational time, the dimensions of the simulations were *** first goal of the current study was to optimize the approach to avoid reaching certain limits such as the rupture of the simulated plant. Plant movements under waves and/or currents have been studied by several authors in various in-situ, physical, and numerical experiments concerning various vegetation species, thus proving that plant movements can be successfully reproduced by SPH 2D/3D. Manning’s roughness coefficient, n, was calculated to confirm that the results were in accordance with what had been measured in flume studies. Even though there is still room for improvement, it is shown that this method can be used to estimate Manning’s coefficient for coastal vegetation(seagrass and saltmarsh vegetation) and to greatly improve the modeling and forecasting of coastal erosion and storm surge risks by including the effects of vegetation in integrated models.

Multi-Level Approach of the Ecotoxicological Impact of a combined Sewer Overflow on a Peri-Urban Stream

In periurban zones, urban wet weather discharges have been recognized as the most significant vector of pollution in aquatic environments. The discharge of this water without treatment into the aquatic environment could present an ecotoxicological risk for biocenosis. The aim of the INVASION project is to assess the potential ecotoxicological impact of a combined sewer overflow (cSO) on a peri-urban stream. A comparative study between upstream and downstream areas of the cSO allowed observing significant effects of this overflow on the river. We studied three layers of stream: surface water, benthic layer and hyporheic layer. To characterize the potential ecotoxicological risk of water and sediments, we used a battery of 4 bioassays: Daphnia magna, Vibrio fischeri, Brachionus calyciflorus and Heterocypris incongruens. In parallel, we measured the physico-chemical parameters: ammonium (NH4+), chromium (cr), copper (cu) and lead (Pb). An ecological risk is greatest for the hyporheic zone in downstream river, particularly for the solid phase. These results corroborated with the physico-chemical data obtained.

Guillain-Barrésyndrome(GBS)is often triggered by a preceding bacterial or viral ***,it has been observed in association with acute hepatitis A,B and c,and three cases have been previously described in India in which GBS was associated with acute hepatitis E.A molecular mimicry mechanism is supposed to be involved in the pathogenesis of GBS triggered by infectious agents,although the nature of the shared epitopes has not been characterized in most instances,including that in the case of hepatotropic *** report a case of GBS following acute hepatitis E in a European *** presence of antiganglioside GM2 antibodies in this patient suggested molecular mimicry involving ganglioside GM2 in the pathogenesis of GBS associated with hepatitis E.

Background:The AbSeS-classification defines specific phenotypes of patients with intra-abdominal infection based on the(1)setting of infection onset(community-acquired,early onset,or late-onset hospital-acquired),(2)presence or absence of either localized or diffuse peritonitis,and(3)severity of disease expression(infection,sepsis,or septic shock).This classification system demonstrated reliable risk stratification in intensive care unit(IcU)patients with intra-abdominal *** study aimed to describe the epidemiology of IcU patients with pancreatic infection and assess the relationship between the components of the AbSeS-classification and ***:This was a secondary analysis of an international observational study(“AbSeS”)investigating IcU patients with intra-abdominal *** patients with pancreatic infection were included in this analysis(n=165).Mortality was defined as IcU mortality within 28 days of observation for patients discharged earlier from the *** with mortality were assessed using logistic regression analysis and reported as odds ratio(OR)and 95%confidence interval(cI).Results:The overall mortality was 35.2%(n=58).The independent risk factors for mortality included older age(OR=1.03,95%cI:1.0 to 1.1 P=0.023),localized peritonitis(OR=4.4,95%cI:1.4 to 13.9 P=0.011),and persistent signs of inflammation at day 7(OR=9.5,95%cI:3.8 to 23.9,Pce control interventions within the first week(OR=4.0,95%cI:1.3 to 12.2,P=0.013).Gramnegative bacteria were most frequently isolated(n=58,49.2%)without clinically relevant differences in microbial etiology between survivors and ***:In pancreatic infection,a challenging source/damage control and ongoing pancreatic inflammation appear to be the strongest contributors to an unfavorable short-term *** this limited series,essentials of the AbSeS-classification,such as the setting of infection onset,diffuse

Identification of biomarkers of human pancreatic adenocarcinomas by expression profiling and validation with gene expression analysis in endoscopic ultrasound-guided fine needle aspiration samples

AIM： To compare gene expression profiles of pancreatic adenocarcinoma tissue specimens, human pancreatic and colon adenocarcinoma and leukemia cell lines and normal pancreas samples in order to distinguish differentially expressed genes and to validate the differential expression of a subset of genes by quantitative real-time RT-PcR （RT-QPcR） in endoscopic ultrasound-guided fine needle aspiration （EUS-guided FNA） ***： commercially dedicated cancer cDNA macroarrays （Atlas Human cancer 1.2） containing 1176 genes were used. Different statistical approaches （hierarchical clustering, principal component analysis （PcA） and SAM） were used to analyze the expression data. RT-QPcR and immunohistochemical studies were used for validation of ***： RT-QPcR validated the increased expression of LcN2 （lipocalin 2） and for the first time PLAT （tissue-type plasminogen activator or tPA） in malignant pancreas as compared with normal pancreas. Immunohistochemical analysis confirmed the increased expression of LcN2 protein localized in epithelial cells of ducts invaded by carcinoma. The analysis of PLAT and LcN2 transcripts in 12 samples obtained through EUS-guided FNA from patients with pancreatic adenocarcinoma showed significantly increased expression levels in comparison with those found in normal tissues, indicating that a sufficient amount of high quality RNA can be obtained with this ***： Expression profiling is a useful method to identify biomarkers and potential target genes. Molecular analysis of EUS-guided FNA samples in pancreatic cancer appears as a valuable strategy for the diagnosis of pancreatic adenocarcinomas.

controlled Vertical Transfer of Individual Au Atoms Using a Surface Supported carbon Radical for Atomically Precise Manufacturing

To explore a proof-of-concept for atomically precise manufacturing(APM)using scanning probe microscopy(SPM),first principle theoretical calculations of atom-by-atom transfer from the apex of an SPM tip to an individual radical on a surfacebound organic molecule have been *** transfer is achieved by spatially controlled motion of a gold terminated tip to the *** molecular tools for SPM-based APM have been designed and investigated,each comprising an adamantane core,a radical end group,and trithiol linkers to enable strong chemisorption on the Au(111)surface:ethynyl-adamantanetrithiol and *** demonstrate the details of controlled Au atom abstraction during tip approach toward and retraction from the radical *** approach of the tip,the apical Au atom undergoes a transfer toward the carbon radical at a clearly defined threshold *** atomic displacement is accompanied by a net energy gain of the system in the range−0.5 to−1.5 eV,depending on the radical *** the case of a triangular pyramidal apex model,two tip configurations are possible after the tip atom displacement:(1)an Au atom is abstracted from the tip and bound to the c radical,not bound to the tip base anymore,and(2)apical tip atoms rearrange to form a continuous neck between the tip and *** the second case,subsequent tip retraction leads to the same final configuration as the first,with the abstracted Au atom bound to radical carbon atom of the molecular *** the less reactive adamantyl-trithiol radical molecular tool,Au atom transfer is less energetically favored,but this has the advantage of avoiding other apex gold atoms from rearrangement.
