Thoracic ultrasound has attracted much interest in detecting pleural effusion or pulmonary consolidation after cardiac *** 2016,Trovato reported,in the World Journal of Cardiology,the interest of using,in addition to echocardiography,thoracic *** this editorial,we highlight the value of assessing diaphragm function after cardiac surgery and interventional cardiology *** factors are able to impair diaphragm function after such *** motion may be decreased by chest pain secondary to sternotomy,pleural effusion or impaired muscle *** paralysis may be secondary to phrenic nerve damage complicating cardiac surgery or atrial fibrillation *** may be ***,respi-ratory troubles induced by diaphragm dysfunction are frequently attributed to pre-existing heart disease or pulmonary complications secondary to *** addition,elevated hemidiaphragm secondary to diaphragm dysfunction is sometimes not observed on chest X-ray performed in supine position in the intensive care *** of diaphragm function by ultrasound during the recovery period appears *** hemidiaphragms can be studied by two complementary ultrasound *** mobility of each hemidiaphragms is measured by M-mode *** addition,recording the percentage of inspiratory thickening provides important information about the quality of muscle *** two approaches make it possible to detect hemidiaphragm paralysis or *** a diagnosis is important because persistent diaphragm dysfunction after cardiac surgery has been shown to be associated with adverse respiratory *** respiratory physio-therapy is able to improve respiratory function through strengthening of the inspiratory muscles *** and accessory inspiratory muscles.

Maxillo-mandibular rehabilitations with very early osteointegrated dental implants for severe hypodontia and anodontia related to ectodermal dysplasia

The ectodermal dysplasias are rare diseases with hypodontia, hypotrichosis and hypohidrosis. The subject's life is considerably constrained and this from an early age, with major difficulties for the integration and acceptance of conventional prosthetic occlusal rehabilitation. The use of implants is an integral part of early treatment, in the regions of stable growth, that is to say symphysis. In two childs of 5 and 6 years we have made implant-borne prosthetic rehabilitation in the maxilla and the mandible. Aesthetic and social evaluation were positive. We have restored the normal oro-facial functions for the correct development of skeletal bases. They acted as an external fixator intraoral, stimulating the growth by the function. Our question was: can we leave a child throughout his childhood and adolescence with a not suitable removable prosthesis, under the pretext of growth unfinished?

A new version of the Extended Kalman Filter（EKF） is proposed for nonlinear systems possessing *** of using a linear correction term based on a linear output error, it uses a geometrically adapted correction term based on an invariant output error;in the same way the gain matrix is not updated from of a linear state error, but from an invariant state error. The benefit is that the gain and covariance equations converge to constant values on a much bigger set of trajectories than equilibrium points as is the case for the EKF,which should result in a better convergence of the *** filter is applied to the practically relevant problem of estimating the velocity and attitude of a moving rigid body,e.g. an aircraft, from GPS velocity, inertial and magnetic measurements. In this context it can be seen as an extension of the "Multiplicative EKF" often used for quaternion estimation.

Fabrication of thin-wall components using the laser powder bed fusion(LPBF)additive manufacturing(AM)technology was investigated for two“hard-to-weld”high gamma prime Ni-based superalloys RENé65(R65)and RENé108(R108).Simple block parts with wall thicknesses of 0.25 mm,1.00 mm,and5.00 mm are printed using a bidirectional laser scanning strategy without layer-wise *** with walls thinner than 5 mm fail before reaching the designated build *** indicate that reduction of limiting build height(LBH)corresponds to the reduction of part thickness and is unaffected by alloy *** the contrary,the number of internal micro-cracks along columnar grain boundaries in the build direction(BD)increases with part thickness and is significantly higher in R108 than *** findings suggest that reduced LBH in parts with thinner walls is not caused by internal micro-crack *** and finite element analysis(FEA)of the in-process thermal stresses show that the LBH trend is not explained by the conventional cracking *** suggest that part thickness affects stress distribution leading to more substantial distortion and consequent failure to add layers for continued fabrication of thinner parts.

Hybrid remote quantum dot/powder phosphor designs for display backlights

Quantum dots are ideally suited for color conversion in light emitting diodes owing to their spectral tunability,high conversion efficiency and narrow emission *** properties are particularly important for display backlights;the highly saturated colors generated by quantum dots justify their higher production ***,we demonstrate the benefits of a hybrid remote phosphor approach that combines a green-emitting europium-doped phosphor with red-emitting CdSe/CdS core/shell quantum *** stacking geometries,including mixed and separate layers of both materials,are studied at the macroscopic and microscopic levels to identify the configuration that achieves maximum device efficiency while minimizing material *** influence of reabsorption,optical outcoupling and refractive index-matching between the layers is evaluated in detail with respect to device efficiency and *** the findings of this study,general guidelines are derived to optimize both the cost and efficiency of CdSe/CdS and other(potentially cadmium-free)quantum dot *** reabsorption of the green and/or red emission is significant compared to the absorption strength for the blue emission of the pumping light emitting diode,the hybrid remote phosphor approach becomes beneficial.

Urinary metabolic insights into host-gut microbial interactions in healthy and IBD children

AIMTo identify metabolic signatures in urine samples from healthy and inflammatory bowel disease(IBD)*** applied liquid chromatography and gas chromatography coupled to targeted mass spectrometry(MS)-based metabolite profiling to identify and quantify bile acids and host-gut microbial metabolites in urine samples collected from 21 pediatric IBD patients monitored three times over one year(baseline,6 and 12 mo),and 27age-and gender-matched healthy *** metabolic profiles of IBD children differ significantly from healthy *** metabolic differences encompass central energy metabolism,amino acids,bile acids and gut microbial *** particular,levels of pyroglutamic acid,glutamic acid,glycine and cysteine,were significantly higher in IBD children in the course of the *** suggests that glutathione cannot be optimally synthesized and *** alterations of the enterohepatic circulation of bile acids in pediatric IBD patients is known,we show here that non-invasive urinary bile acid profiling can assess those altered hepatic and intestinal barrier *** present study shows how non-invasive sampling of urine followed by targeted MS-based metabonomic analysis can elucidate and monitor the metabolic status of children with different GI health/disease status.

On the Stability of Racing Sailing Boats with Foils

The development of foils for racing boats has changed the strategy of ***,the America's cup held in San Francisco,has been the theatre of a tragicomic history due to the foils. During the last round,the New-Zealand boat was winning by 8 to1 against the defender USA. The winner is the first with 9 victories. USA team understood suddenly(may be) how to use the control of the pitching of the main foils by adjusting the rake in order to stabilize the ship. And USA won by 9 victories against 8 to the challenger NZ. The goal in this paper is to point out few aspects which could be taken into account in order to improve this mysterious control law which is known as the key of the victory of the USA team. There are certainly many reasons and in particular the cleverness of the sailors and of all the engineering team behind this project. But it appears interesting to have a mathematical discussion,even if it is a partial one,on the mechanical behaviour of these extraordinary sailing boats. The numerical examples given here are not the true *** have just been invented in order to explain the theoretical developments concerning three points: The possibility of tacking on the foils for sailing upwind,the nature of foiling instabilities,if there are,when the boat is flying and the control laws.

Bush, bugs, and birds;interdependency in a farming landscape

Changes in farming practices over the second half of the twentieth century greatly reduced the extent of natural areas remaining within agricultural landscapes. Field margins and hedgerows have recently been recognized as important habitat in maintaining wildlife diversity and proper ecosystem functioning. Ecotones, defined as the transitionary area of vegetation between woody plant species and the arable crop, are an especially important landscape element for birds and arthropods. In this manuscript, we aimed to evaluate which hedgerow attribute was best at predicting avian densities in a conventional and organic farming landscape. Furthermore, we wished to investigate if these same hedgerow attributes could explain arthropod family density, richness and diversity, and how these were correlated to avian densities. An information theory-based multimodel inference method was used to identify which factors influenced variability in avian densities. Although not always significant, avian densities increased with arthropod richness at our study sites. Ecotone width is the best predictor of avian densities and arthropod richness while percent gap is the most important factor if a manager wishes to increase avian diversity (H’) in hedgerow habitats. Increasing ecotone width benefits both avian densities and arthropod richness that in turn further increases bird numbers in our farming landscape.

Impact of age on transcatheter aortic valve implantation outcomes：a comparison of patients aged≤ 80 years versus patients ＆gt; 80 years

OBJECTIVE:To investigate the procedural outcomes and the long-term survival of patients undergoing transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) and compare study results of patients ≤ 80 years and patients > 80 years old.;METHODS:A total of 240 patients treated with TAVI were divided into two groups according to age ≤ 80 years (n = 105; 43.8%) and > 80 years (n = 135; 56.2%). The baseline characteristics and the procedural outcomes were compared between these two groups of patients.;RESULTS:With the exception of peripheral artery disease and hypercholesterolemia, which were more frequently observed in the older age group, baseline characteristics were comparable between groups. Complication rates did not differ significantly between patients ≤ 80 years and patients > 80 years. There were no differences in 30-day mortality rates between patients aged ≤ 80 years and patients > 80 years old (9.5% vs. 7.4%, respectively; P = 0.557). After a median follow-up of 28 months (interquartile range: 16-42 months), 50 (47.6%) patients aged ≤ 80 years died compared to 57 (42%) deaths in the group of patients > 80 years old (P = 0.404).;CONCLUSIONS:The results of the present single center study showed that age did not significantly impact the outcomes of TAVI.
