In the Sahel of Africa, where 90 % of the population depends on natural resources for their liveli- hood, a large part of the soils are structurally unstable, prone to crusting and hard setting, and have low water holding capacity, which hamper vegetation establishment. The effect of soil restoration techniques on survival and growth of seedlings of Acacia nilotica, Acacia tortilis and Jatropha curcas was tested in completely barren, degraded land in a Sahelian ecosystem in Burkina Faso. A total of 522 seedlings （174 plants of each plant species） were planted in a randomized complete block design with three replicates combining three soil preparation techniques： half-moon, zai＂ and standard plantation. Survival and growth rates evaluated over 20 months were significantly higher using the half-moon technique compared with the other two techniques. Survival rates of plant species planted using half-moon technique were 62.5, 28.57 and 10.71% for A. nilotica, A. tortilis and J. curcas respec- tively, but in za＇i and standard planting, seedling survival was zero. The low survival rate of J. curcas using the half-moon technique may indicate that J. curcas is unsuit- able for barren and degraded land, whereas A. nilotica and A. tortilis appear to be promising tree species for rehabil- itation of degraded land.

In degraded Sahelian agro-systems, livestock manures increase agricultural production and ensure natural regeneration through their selective seed potential. Yet, this seed potential that contributes to species dissemination is still poorly known. This study aimed to determine the seed potential of different livestock ruminant manures. To this end, cattle (Bos indicus), goat (Capra hircus) and sheep (Ovis aries) manures were collected in 45 distinct enclosures in the Sahelian zone of Burkina Faso following the three seasonal periods of the year. A total of 36 species in 13 families and 26 genera was identified in the coarse fraction of the three type of manure. The most abundant seeds in the manure are those of Fabaceae-mimosoideae, Fabaceae-caesalpinoideae, Rhamnaceae and Balanitaceae. The results showed that the contribution of goats to the total seed potential was 61% against 36% for sheep and 3% for cattle. The average number of seeds was 205 seeds/Kg of manure for goats, 125 seeds/Kg for sheep and 11 seeds/Kg for cattle. Depending on the collection period, the cold-dry season contributed 70% to the total annual seed potential against 22% of the hot-dry season and 8% for the rainy season. Following the species functional traits, goat spread more seeds of woody indehiscent pods (barochores species) containing one, 4 to 10 seeds with hard cores and integuments. Sheep spread more seeds of annual legumes having dehiscent pods (autochores) and more than 10 seeds. The most abundant seeds in the manure are those of agroforestry (Vachellia nilotica, Faidherbia albida, Piliostigma reticulatum), ruderal (Ipomoea eriocarpa) or invasive (Senna obtusifolia) species. The most frequently (RI Dactyloctenium aegyptium, Eleusine indica, Corchorus tridens, Sporobolus festivus and Ipomoea eriocarpa. Taxonomic and functional characteristics of the seed potential of ruminants manures shape the regeneration traits of agro-ecosystems through selective seed dissemination.

The naive Bayesian classifier(NBC) is a supervised machine learning algorithm having a simple model structure and good theoretical interpretability. However, the generalization performance of NBC is limited to a large extent by the assumption of attribute independence. To address this issue, this paper proposes a novel attribute grouping-based NBC(AG-NBC), which is a variant of the classical NBC trained with different attribute groups. AG-NBC first applies a novel effective objective function to automatically identify optimal dependent attribute groups(DAGs). Condition attributes in the same DAG are strongly dependent on the class attribute, whereas attributes in different DAGs are independent of one another. Then,for each DAG, a random vector functional link network with a SoftMax layer is trained to output posterior probabilities in the form of joint probability density estimation. The NBC is trained using the grouping attributes that correspond to the original condition attributes. Extensive experiments were conducted to validate the rationality, feasibility, and effectiveness of AG-NBC. Our findings showed that the attribute groups chosen for NBC can accurately represent attribute dependencies and reduce overlaps between different posterior probability densities. In addition, the comparative results with NBC, flexible NBC(FNBC), tree augmented Bayes network(TAN), gain ratio-based attribute weighted naive Bayes(GRAWNB), averaged one-dependence estimators(AODE), weighted AODE(WAODE), independent component analysis-based NBC(ICA-NBC), hidden naive Bayesian(HNB) classifier, and correlation-based feature weighting filter for naive Bayes(CFW) show that AG-NBC obtains statistically better testing accuracies, higher area under the receiver operating characteristic curves(AUCs), and fewer probability mean square errors(PMSEs) than other Bayesian classifiers. A substantial body of research has been conducted with the objective of enhancing the understanding of Non-Timber Forest Products (NTFP) in Central Africa. A significant proportion of the studies focus on medicinal plants, in contrast to those that examine food products. Nevertheless, studies on edible wild mushrooms as NTFPs and cultivated mushrooms, on their economic potential and value chains in the Great Lakes Region, remain scarce and largely absent for some NTFPs. In light of the aforementioned considerations, the present study aims to examine the economic potential and value chain of the production sector of wild edible mushrooms (WEM) and cultivated mushrooms (CM) within the Virunga National Park (PNVi) and its surrounding areas in North Kivu, Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). To this end, a sample of 432 respondents was selected, distributed equitably among the actors of the Goma-Kitshanga-Mweso value chain, the Goma-Rutshuru chain, the Beni-Mutwanga chain, and the Beni-Mangina chain. A digital questionnaire consisting of open and closed questions was administered, and observations were carried out concurrently. The quantities of mushrooms sold were weighed and photographed. The results demonstrated that, when the eight-month fruiting period of wild and cultivated mushrooms was considered as a single year for all actors within the value chain, a picker could sell 6.1 kg at $2 and earn $12. A seller could sell 16 kg at $4 and earn $64, while a grower could sell 502 kg at $3 and earn $1506. Consequently, the CM grower generates a significantly higher profit than other participants in the value chain, despite the expenses he incurs. Ultimately, the domestication of WEM, highly prized by the local population of the Virunga National Park, has the potential to enhance their household incomes, as evidenced by the findings of this study.

Cephaloceles in Center of Senegal: Analysis of 11 Cases

Introduction: Cephalocele is a herniation of brain tissue and/or its membranes due to a dehiscence of the skull. It can be presented as a meningocele, encephalocele, or meningoencephalocele. Objective: To share a series of cases of operated cephaloceles. Materials and Methods: This was a retrospective observational study conducted at the Regional Hospital Center of Kaolack from February 1, 2022, to January 31, 2024. We analyzed clinical, radiological, therapeutic, and evolutionary data of all patients operated on for cephalocele. Results: We recorded 11 patients operated on for cephalocele over 23 months. The average age was 2 months, with extremes ranging from 6 days to 7 months. The sex ratio was 0.4. A history of consanguinity among parents was found in 7 out of 11 cases. Three mothers had no prenatal follow-up. Occipital location was predominant, and the average diameter of the neck was 7 cm. All patients underwent a brain CT scan, revealing an encephalocele in seven cases and a meningocele in four cases. Additionally, six out of seven patients had associated hydrocephalus. All patients were operated on, and a favorable outcome was obtained in seven patients. Four cases of reoperation were noted, among which we noted two cases of death. Conclusion: This malformation remains relevant, with its incidence linked to the socio-economic level of a country. The risk of morbidity and mortality is very high, emphasizing the need for good prenatal follow-up.

朴素贝叶斯分类器被誉为机器学习领域的十大经典算法之一，其以完备的理论基础和简单的模型结构而闻名，在许多的实际应用中取得了良好的分类效果。然而条件属性独立性假设在一定程度上限制了朴素贝叶斯分类器的性能，因此大量的改进工作被提出来缓解这一问题，加权朴素贝叶斯分类器便是其中之一。在对边缘概率权重作用深入分析的基础之上，文中提出了一种基于风险最小化的加权朴素贝叶斯分类器(Risk Minimization-Based Weighted Naive Bayesian Classifier, RM-WNBC),即在权重确定的过程中同时考虑分类器的经验风险和权重的结构风险。不同于现有的过分关注朴素贝叶斯分类器外在泛化性能的改进策略，RM-WNBC是从朴素贝叶斯分类器的内在概率分布出发改善其泛化性能。经验风险度量了加权朴素贝叶斯分类器的分类能力，采用后验概率的估计质量表示；结构风险刻画了加权朴素贝叶斯分类器对属性相关性的处理，采用类条件概率的均方差表示。经验风险最小化保证了RM-WNBC可以获得良好的训练精度，同时结构风险最小化又使得RM-WNBC能够取得最佳的属性相关表达能力。为了获得RM-WNBC的最优权重，推导了高效且收敛的权重更新策略来保证结构风险和经验风险的最小化。在31个UCI和KEEL标准分类数据集上对RM-WNBC的可行性、合理性和有效性进行了验证。实验结果表明：1)RM-WNBC的训练和测试精度随着边缘概率权重的不断更新逐渐增加直至收敛；2)RM-WNBC具有比现有加权朴素贝叶斯分类器更好的属性相关性表达能力；3)在给定的显著性水平下，RM-WNBC在31个数据集上能够获得比经典朴素贝叶斯分类器、3种贝叶斯网络、4种加权朴素贝叶斯分类器和1种特征选择朴素贝叶斯分类器更好的训练和测试表现。
