Executive function impairments in high IQ children and adolescents with ADHD

Objective: To demonstrate that high IQ children and adolescents diagnosed with ADHD tend to suffer from executive function (EF) impairments that: a) can be identified with a combination of standardized measures and normed self-report data;and b) occur more frequently in this group than in the general population. Method: From charts of 117 children and adolescents aged 6 to 17 years with high IQ ( ≥ 120) who fully met DSM-IV diagnostic criteria for ADHD, data on 8 normed measures of executive function (EF) were extracted: IQ index scores for working memory and processing speed, a standardized measure of auditory verbal memory, and 5 clusters of the Brown ADD Scale, a normed, age-graded rating scale for ADHD-related executive function impairments in daily life. Significant impairment was computed for each individual relative to age-appropriate norms for each measure and comparisons were made to base-line rates in the general population. Results: Sixty-two percent of participants were significantly impaired on at least 5 of these 8 markers of EF. Chi-square comparisons of scores from these high IQ participants were significantly different (p < 0.001) from standardization norms for each of the eight EF measures. Conclusions: High IQ children and adolescents with ADHD, despite their cognitive strengths, tend to suffer from significant impairments of executive functions that can be assessed with these measures;incidence of these impairments is significantly greater than in the general population. These results are fully consistent with data on high IQ adults diagnosed with ADHD.

An emerging railway technology called smart railway promises to deliver higher transportation efficiency,enhanced comfort in services,and greater *** smart railway is expected to integrate fifth-generation mobile communication(5G),Artificial Intelligence(AI),and other technologies,which poses new problems in the construction,operation and maintenance of railway wireless *** Digital Twins(DTs),which have recently emerged as a new paradigm for the design of wireless networks,can address these problems and enable the whole lifecycle management of railway wireless ***,there are still many scientific issues and challenges for railway-oriented wireless *** key technologies to solve these problems are introduced and described,including characterization of materials'physical-EM properties,autonomous reconstruction of Three-dimensional(3D)environment model,AI-empowered environmental cognition,Ray-Tracing(RT),model-based and AIbased RT acceleration,and generation of multi-spectra sensing ***,this paper presents our research results for each key technology and describes the wireless network planning and optimization system based on highperformance RT developed by our *** paper outlines the framework for realizing the wireless DT of smart railways,providing the direction for future research.

Tailoring a material's properties for low friction and little wear in a strategic fashion is a long-standing goal of materials *** deformation plays a major role when metals are employed in a sliding contact;therefore,the effects of stacking fault energy and mode of dislocation glide need to be ***,we investigated how a decrease in the stacking fault energy affects friction,wear,and the ensuing sub-surface microstructure *** samples with increasing zinc concentrations of 5,15,and 36 wt%were tested in non-lubricated sphere-on-plate contacts with a reciprocating linear tribometer against Si3N4 *** the sliding distance from 0.5(single trace)to 5,000 reciprocating cycles covered different stages in the lifetime of a sliding *** the results among the three alloys revealed a profound effect of the zinc concentration on the tribological ***15 and CuZn36 showed similar friction and wear results,whereas CuZn5 had a roughly 60%higher friction coefficient(COF)than the other two ***15 and CuZn36 had a much smaller wear rate than *** dislocation motion in CuZn5 and CuZn15 allowed for dislocation self-organization into a horizontal line about 150 nm beneath the contact after a single trace of the *** feature was absent in CuZn36 where owing to planar dislocation slip band-like features under a 45°angle to the surface were *** results hold the promise to help guide the future development of alloys tailored for specific tribological applications.

Understanding the microstructural and tribo-chemical processes during tribological loading is of utmost importance to further improve the tribological behavior of metals. In this study, the friction, wear and tribo-chemical behavior of Ni with different initial microstructures(nanocrystalline, bi-modal, coarse-grained) is investigated under dry sliding conditions. In particular, the interplay be-tween frictional response, microstructural evolution and tribo-oxidation is considered. Friction tests are carried out using ball-on-disk experiments with alumina balls as counter-bodies, varying the load between 1 and 5 N. The microstructural evolution as well as the chemical reactions beneath the samples’ surface is investigated by means of cross-sections. The samples with finer microstructures show a faster run-in and lower maximum values of the coefficient of friction(COF) which can be attributed to higher oxidation kinetics and a higher hardness. It is observed that with increasing sliding cycles, a stable oxide layer is formed. Furthermore, initially coarse-grained samples show grain refinement, whereas initially finer microstructures undergo grain coarsening converging towards the same superficial grain size after 2,000 sliding cycles. Consequently, the experimental evidence supports that, irrespective of the initial microstructure, after a certain deformation almost identical steady-state COF values for all samples are achieved.

The aim of this study was to compare mandibular form （i.e., size and shape） between patients with agenesis of the lower second premolar （P2） and a control group with no agenesis. Three hypotheses were tested：（H1） agenesis causes a change in mandibular morphology because of inadequate alveolar ridge development in the area of the missing tooth （mandibular plasticity）; （H2） agenesis is caused by spatial limitations within the mandible （dental plasticity）; and （H3） common genetic/ epigenetic factors cause agenesis and affect mandibular form （pleiotropy）. A geometric morphometric analysis was applied to cross-sectional images of computed tomography （CT） scans of three matched groups （n= 50 each）：（1） regularly erupted P2; （2） agenesis of P2 and the primary second molar in situ; and （3） agenesis of P2 and the primary second molar missing for 〉3 months. Cross-sections of the three areas of interest （first premolar, P2, first molar） were digitized with 23 landmarks and superimposed by a generalized Procrustes analysis. On average, the mandibular cross-sections were narrower and shorter in patients with P2 agenesis compared with that in the control group. Both agenesis groups featured a pronounced submandibular fossa. These differences extended at least one tooth beyond the agenesis-affected region. Taken together with the large interindividual variation that resulted in massively overlapping group distributions, these findings support genetic and/or epigenetic pleiotropy （H3） as the most likely origin of the observed covariation between mandibular form and odontogenesis. Clinically, reduced dimensions and greater variability of mandibular form, as well as a pronounced submandibular fossa, should be expected during the treatment planning of patients with P2 agenesis.

BACKGROUND Increasing numbers of total joint arthroplasties and consecutive revision surgery are associated with the risk of periprosthetic joint infections (PPJI). Treatment of PPJI is complex and associated with immense socio-economic burden. One treatment aspect is parenteral antiinfective therapy, which usually requires an inpatient setting [Inpatient parenteral antibiotic therapy (IPAT)]. An alternative is outpatient parenteral treatment [Outpatient parenteral antibiotic therapy (OPAT)]. To conduct a health economic cost-benefit analysis of OPAT, a detailed cost analysis of IPAT and OPAT is required. So far, there is a lack of knowledge on the health economic effects of IPAT and OPAT for PPJI. AIM To review an economic comparison of IPAT and OPAT. METHODS A systematic literature review was performed through Medline following the PRISMA guidelines. RESULTS Of 619 identified studies, 174 included information of interest and 21 studies were included for quantitative analysis of OPAT and IPAT costs. Except for one study, all showed relevant cost savings for OPAT compared to IPAT. Costs for IPAT were between 1.10 to 17.34 times higher than those for OPAT. CONCLUSION There are only few reports on OPAT for PPJI. Detailed analyses to support economic or clinical guidelines are therefore limited. There is good clinical evidence supporting economic benefits of OPAT, but more high quality studies are needed for PPJI.

High sensitizer and activator concentrations have been increasingly examined to improve the performance of multi-color emissive upconversion(UC)nanocrystals(UCNC)like NaYF_(4):Yb,Er and first strategies were reported to reduce concentration quenching in highly doped *** luminescence(UCL)is,however,controlled not only by dopant concentration,yet by an interplay of different parameters including size,crystal and shell quality,and excitation power density(P).Thus,identifying optimum dopant concentrations requires systematic studies of UCNC designed to minimize additional quenching pathways and quantitative ***,we quantify the dopant concentration dependence of the UCL quantum yield(ΦUC)of solid NaYF_(4):Yb,Er/NaYF_(4):Lu upconversion core/shell nanocrystals of varying Yb3+and Er3+concentrations(Yb3+series:20%‒98%Yb3+;2%Er3+;Er3+series:60%Yb3+;2%‒40%Er3+).To circumvent other luminescence quenching processes,an elaborate synthesis yielding OH-free UCNC with recordΦUC of~9%and~25 nm core particles with a thick surface shell were *** Yb3+concentrations barely reduceΦUC from~9%(20%Yb3+)to~7%(98%Yb3+)for an Er3+concentration of 2%,thereby allowing to strongly increase the particle absorption cross section and UCNC *** an increased Er3+concentration reducesΦUC from~7%(2%Er3+)to 1%(40%)for 60%Yb3+.Nevertheless,at very high P(>1 MW/cm^(2))used for microscopic studies,highly Er3+-doped UCNC display a high brightness because of reduced *** findings underline the importance of synthesis control and will pave the road to many fundamental studies of UC materials.
