We d.rive necessary and.sufficient cond.tions for the existence of a Hermitian nonnegative-d.finite solution to the matrix equation AXB = C. Moreover, we d.rive a representation of a general Hermitian nonnegative-d.finite solution. We then apply our solution to two examples, includ.ng a comparison of our solution to a proposed.solution by Zhang in [1] using an example problem given from [1]. Our solution d.monstrates that the proposed.general solution from Zhang in [1] is incorrect. We also give a second.example in which we d.rive the general covariance structure so that two matrix quad.atic forms are ind.pend.nt.

We revisit a comparison of two d.scriminant analysis proced.res, namely the linear combination classifier of Chung and.Han (2000) and.the maximum likelihood.estimation substitution classifier for the problem of classifying unlabeled.multivariate normal observations with equal covariance matrices into one of two classes. Both classes have matching block monotone missing training d.ta. Here, we d.monstrate that for intra-class covariance structures with at least small correlation among the variables with missing d.ta and.the variables without block missing d.ta, the maximum likelihood.estimation substitution classifier outperforms the Chung and.Han (2000) classifier regard.ess of the percent of missing observations. Specifically, we examine the d.fferences in the estimated.expected.error rates for these classifiers using a Monte Carlo simulation, and.we compare the two classifiers using two real d.ta sets with monotone missing d.ta via parametric bootstrap simulations. Our results contrad.ct the conclusions of Chung and.Han (2000) that their linear combination classifier is superior to the MLE classifier for block monotone missing multivariate normal d.ta.

We consid.r the efficacy of a proposed.linear-d.mension-red.ction method.to potentially increase the powers of five hypothesis tests for the d.fference of two high-d.mensional multivariate-normal population-mean vectors with the assumption of homosced.stic covariance matrices. We use Monte Carlo simulations to contrast the empirical powers of the five high-d.mensional tests by using both the original d.ta and.d.mension-red.ced.d.ta. From the Monte Carlo simulations, we conclud. that a test by Thulin [1], when performed.with post-d.mension-red.ced.d.ta, yield.d.the best omnibus power for d.tecting a d.fference between two high-d.mensional population-mean vectors. We also illustrate the utility of our d.mension-red.ction method.real d.ta consisting of genetic sequences of two groups of patients with Crohn’s d.sease and.ulcerative colitis.

For the case where all multivariate normal parameters are known, we d.rive a new linear d.mension red.ction (Ld.) method.to d.termine a low-d.mensional subspace that preserves or nearly preserves the original feature-space separation of the ind.vid.al populations and.the Bayes probability of misclassification. We also give necessary and.sufficient cond.tions which provid. the smallest red.ced.d.mension that essentially retains the Bayes probability of misclassification from the original full-d.mensional space in the red.ced.space. Moreover, our new Ld. proced.re requires no computationally expensive optimization proced.re. Finally, for the case where parameters are unknown, we d.vise a Ld. method.based.on our new theorem and.compare our Ld. method.with three competing Ld. method. using Monte Carlo simulations and.a parametric bootstrap based.on real d.ta.

Background. Acute effects of Far Infrared.(FIR) treatment in horses are unknown, especially short period. of 30 minutes, as is any effect on such muscle parameters as warm-up balance, overall exercise balance and.laterality asymmetries. Aim: This stud. examines three equine cases in d.tail to measure any effects of a short period.of FIR treatment. Method.: Multi-frequency bioimped.nce (mfBIA) and.acoustic myography (AMG), non-invasive techniques, were applied.pre- and.post-treatment with FIR to the back (T5-L4/5) and.for *** d.rsi and.*** med.us was record.d.d.ring a 15-minute warm-up regimen. mfBIA parameters includ.d.extracellular resistance (Re), centre frequency (fc), membrane capacitance (Mc), intracellular resistance (Ri) and.phase angle (PA) which ind.cates level of training and.health status. Results: FIR treatment responses for mfBIA parameters were found.to be horse-specific and.d.fferent, whilst in terms of AMG, FIR treatment for 30 minutes had.a beneficial effect on overall balance in all three horses (5 out of 6 muscles), and.a beneficial effect on the AMG parameter ST (force symmetry) in all three horses (6 out of 6 muscles). An overall improvement for combined.balance and.ST values for both muscles and.all three horses of 86% was noted.with FIR treatment, compared.to 56% without. Conclusions: This preliminary stud. of FIR treatment in three horses, has been found.to result in an overall improvement in combined.balance and.ST values for both muscles. FIR has potential as a promising treatment to red.ce the risk of warm-up-related.injuries in athletic horses.
