Agrobacterium-Mediated Transformation of Cry8db Gene in Vietnam Sweet Potato Cultivar

Sweet potato [Ipomoea batatas （L.） Lam.] is an important food crop in the world as well as in Vietnam. It is well known as a recalcitrant crop for gene transformation and tissue culture because of its genotype dependent in vitro responses. In present study, Agrobacterium-mediated transformation of cry8Db from Bacillus thuringiensis into KB 1 sweet potato variety has been studied. The C58cv strain carrying a pBl 121 backbone which contained cry8Db delta-endotoxin gene regulated under 35 S CaMV prom oter, and the selection marker gene, neomycin phosphotransferase （npt11） gene, was subjected for plant transformation. Callus induced from shoot tips and leaf explants were inoculated and cocultured with A. tumefaciens. The selection occurred during callus producing and plant regenerating steps. A total of 201 transgenic putative plant lines were produced, and 21 transgenic lines were positively confirmed by PCR and finalized by Southern blot. Four putative transgenic lines confirming a single copy of the crySEIb gene were transferred into soil pots in greenhouse. Biological activity evaluation for the insecticidal capacity of these transgenic lines under controlled conditions showed that the level of infestation by sweet potato weevils （Cylasformicarius） in untransformed plants was higher than that of transgenic lines.

Patterns of hepatitis B virus exposure and associated predictors in Vietnam: A crosssectional study

Objective:To examine the magnitude of isolated anti-HBc and other HBV serological patterns and associated predictors among adults seeking general health check-up at a large health center in ***:All 564 outpatients seeking general health checkup between January 2016 and December 2016 were asked to undertake HBV surface antigen,surface antibody,IgG and IgM core antibody(anti-HBc total),platelet counts,and liver function *** administered questionnaire was used to collect information regarding demography,in-house sources of infection,lifestyle,health condition and treatment,and HBV ***:Male gender(P=0.043),age(P=0.000),living in urban areas(P=0.040),HBV vaccination status(P=0.033),and ALT(P=0.040) were associated with isolated *** infection was associated with HBV vaccination status(P=0.001),ALT levels(P=0.010),AST levels(P=0.020),and platelet counts(P=0.007).Past/resolved HBV infection was associated with AST levels(P=0.005),ALT levels(P=0.014),and age(P=0.000).Conclusions:Isolated anti-HBc is quite *** of isolated anti-HBc include male gender,living in rural areas,and HBV *** prevalence of isolated anti-HBc also increases with *** timely detect occult HBV infection and prevent transmission,anti-HBc testing should be included in the health check-up for high risk individuals and screening program where HBV nucleic acid test is not *** prevent transmission,clinicians need to pay more attention on those who are at risk of having isolated anti-HBc and closely follow-up patients with isolated anti-HBc and educate them about the prevention of HBV infection.

The Northern Key Economic region of Vietnam is a dynamic economic center that is an important economic locomotive of the North and the whole of *** this area,large industrial parks are concentrated,attracting many large FDI *** industries:cement production,cars-motorcycles,electronics,...Economic development entails environmental *** industrial sector has been identified as the number one driving force driving the growth of Hanoi city and neighboring ***,industrial development is one of the main causes of environmental *** addition,the growth rate of industry in neighboring provinces significantly affects the air quality in Hanoi *** factories in Vinh Phuc,Hung Yen,Bac Ninh and Hai Duong provinces have large sources of gas emissions,potentially affecting air quality around Hanoi *** results show that air pollution in Hanoi city is mainly caused by dust pollution,especially PM2.5 superfine *** is a very harmful dust to health;it is necessary to determine the cause and control ***,the objectives of this study are:(1)inventory of potential emissions sources for industrial activities in the northern key economic region around Hanoi;(2)Simulate air spread by AERMOD model to get an overall picture of the industrial impact of surrounding provinces in Hanoi city;(3)Propose solutions to manage air quality for the city in the coming *** results for pollutants with the highest concentration of NOx for 1 hour,24 hours and the average of the year is 7.94;1.02;0.222(μg/m3);of CO for 1 hour and 8 hours are 27.616;8.89(μg/m3);of SO2 for 1 hour,24 hours and the average of the year is 4.005;0.288;0.038(μg/m3);of PM2.5 for 1 hour,24 hours and the average of the year is 0.32;0.023;0.003(μg/m3);of PM10 in 1 hour,24 hours and year average are 1.03;0.074;0.098(μg/m3).

BACTERIAL ENDOCARDITIS:NATURAL HISTORY AND VALVULAR INVOLVEMENT

A total of 92 patients with baetenal endocarditis (BE) were treatedduring 1/1995-5/1998.48 patients were intravenous drug addicts (ID)(52.2%).The averase age of ID patients was 30.48+/-6.06 *** had been using drugs for more than 6 months (79.3%).Thevegetations were located mainly in the left heart (90.9%).All the casesof BE in ID patients occured in native *** were foundbetween non-ID (NID) and ID with regard to heart failure in ID (62.5%versus 16%) and to cerebral vascular accidents (25% versus 13%).Positive blood cultures were significantly more frequent in ID (95.5%)versus NID (44.4%).Streptoccocal D infections were predominant in ID(56.8%) and Streptococcal alpha infections in NID patients (44.4%),thedifference being statistically *** hospital mortality rate wassimilar in both groups,18.7% and 18.2% in ID and NID *** were no surgical interventions in the ID ***:In an area with high prevalence of rheumatic valvular diseasethe incidence of bacterial endocarditis in ID and NID showed difference *** there were no surgery in the ID group,the short termmortality was *** is a need to investigate the clinical benefit ofvalvular replacement end the survival of the ID and NID patients,in an areawhere resources are limited.

Biotic and abiotic factors control aboveground biomass(AGB)and the structure of forest *** study analyses the variation of AGB and stand structure of evergreen broadleaved forests among six ecoregions of Vietnam.A data set of 1731-ha plots from 52 locations in undisturbed old-growth forests was *** results indicate that basal area and AGB are closely correlated with annual precipitation,but not with annual temperature,evaporation or hours of *** area and AGB are positively correlated with trees>30 cm *** areas surveyed(52.6%)in these old-growth forests had AGB of 100–200 Mg ha^-1;5.2%had AGB of 400–500 Mg ha^-1,and 0.6%had AGB of>800 Mg ha^-*** percent of the areas surveyed had stand densities of 300–600 ***^-1,and 64%had basal areas of 20–40 m^2 ha^-*** is an important factor influencing the AGB of old-growth,evergreen broadleaved forests in *** causing the loss of large-diameter trees(e.g.,>100 cm DBH)affects AGB but may not seriously affect stand density.

The scattering and resonance reactions of ^22Mg＋p and ^22Mg＋α play crucial roles for studying deeply not only in the structure of proton-rich nuclei of ^23A1 and ^26Si but also for the interest of astrophysics. It is believed that ^22Mg nucleus is a waiting point in the αp-process of nucleosynthesis in novae. We supposed to perform direct measurement the ^22Mg＋α system in invert kinematics using radioactive ion （RI） beam. The ^22Mg beam of 3.73 MeV/u was produced at CRIB facility of the University of Tokyo located at RIKEN, Japan in 2011. Reproductive biology of Leiognathus splendens was studied by using the samples collected from the catches of trawl fisheries in Myeik coastal waters during January to December *** takes place throughout the year,with a peak during April-May and *** observed length at first maturity was 9.0 cm total length in males and 8.4 cm in *** mean gonadosomatic index was more prominently in females(2.5)than males(1.5).Sex ratio(1 male:1.1 females)also indicates the general dominant of females over males Fecundity varied from 6120 to 58412 *** of fecundity to fish length,fish weight and ovary weight showed that fecundity is more related to the gonad weight(r=0.9)than length(r=0.8)and weight of fish(r=0.7).
