PNPLA3 polymorphism increases risk for and severity of chronic hepatitis C liver disease

AIM To examine the association of PNPLA3 polymorphisms in chronic hepatitis C patients and development of liver disease spectrum. METHODs Literature was searched systematically from Pub Med/MEDLINE, EMBAsE, and Cochrane search engines for full-length articles written in English that examined PNPLA3 polymorphism in chronic hepatitis C(CHC) patients. studies evaluating the association of PNPLA3 polymorphism spectrum(fatty liver, steatohepatitis, cirrhosis, and hepatocellular carcinoma) of CHC were included. Pooled data are reported as OR with 95%CI. Our study endpoint was the risk of the entire liver disease spectrum including: steatosis/fatty liver, cirrhosis, and hepatocellular carcinoma in CHC patients with PNPLA3 *** Of 380 studies identified, a total of 53 studies were included for full-text review. Nineteen on chronic he-patitis C were eligible for analysis. Pooled ORs for rs738409 GG compared to CC and CG among patients with fatty liver was 2.214(95%CI: 1.719-2.853). ORs among advanced fibrosis/cirrhosis were 1.762(95%CI: 1.258-2.468). similar odds ratios among hepatocellular carcinoma patients were 2.002(95%CI: 1.519-2.639). Pooled ORs for rs738409 GG and CG compared to CC among patients with fatty liver were 1.750(95%CI: 1.542-1.986). Pooled ORs for advanced fibrosis/cirrhosis patients were 1.613(95%CI: 1.211-2.147). All analyses were homogenous and without publication bias except one. The associations were maintained after adjusting for publication bias and heterogeneity. CONCLUsION PNPLA3 polymorphisms have strong association with increased risk and severity of the liver disease spectrum in CHC patients.

stent fracture represents a rare cause of stent failure especially in the era of new genera-tion coronary drug-eluting stents(DEs).It is described as the interruption of stent continuity resulting in increased risk of in-stent restenosis and stent thrombosis and predisposes to repeat revascu-larization.[1]Although a growing number of octo-genarians benefit today from an invasive treatment of coronary artery disease(CAD),this benefit could be lost in frail patients with multiple comorbidities.[2]Octogenarians constitute a high-risk population in whom frailty and multiple comorbidities mandate for careful treatment planning.

Wood transportation begins from the landing or the forest road where the processed wood assortments are placed, they are loaded on trucks and then transported to the wood-working industry and/or the consumption centers. Wood transportation in Greece is carried out, almost exclusively, by trucks. The aim of this study is to analyze the evolution of timber trucking in Greece through the analysis of wood transportation waybills. A total of 1,471 waybills have been collected and analyzed that cover the period 1981-2008 from nine of the most productive and representative forest districts in Greece, in terms of timber production. The final dataset included information on the type and technical characteristics of truck types, the transported wood quantities and haulage distances. Furthermore, data on the wood transportation cost for the year 2010 have been collected and analyzed. According to the results, the number of two-axle trucks that dominated in the 1980s is reducing rapidly, mostly to the benefit of larger three-axle and four-axle trucks. More than three quarters （77%） of wood transportation is conducted in the period June-October. Mean vehicle load per vehicle type differs between conifer and broadleaved species from 7.1% up to 23.9%. Transportation of stacked wood with semitrailers is conducted with overloaded trucks, which could entail serious problems for public safety and the condition of road network. New design standards will enhance serviceability of the wood transportation routes and environmental protection.

We present in this article an epidemic model with saturated in metapopulation setting. We develop the mathematical modelling of HIV transmission among adults in Metapopulation setting. We discussed the positivity of the system. We calculated the reproduction number, If ?for , then each infectious individual in sub-Population j infects on average less than one other person and the disease is likely to die out. Otherwise, if ?for , then each infectious individual in sub-Population j infects on average more than one other person;the infection could therefore establish itself in the population and become endemic. An epidemic model, where the presence or absence of an epidemic wave is characterized by the value of ?both ideas of the inner equilibrium point of stability properties are discussed.

The paper presents laboratory test results on hydraulically bound road base materials containing high volume of steel slag and blast furnace slag waste dusts compared with control mixtures. These mixtures contain higher levels of （4mm-0.0 mm） dust, than would be the case in standard un bound road base mixtures. The combined influence of the steel slag and granulated blast furnace slag wastes content is to enhance the stiffness of the road base materials and save materials and cost during road construction. Triaxial repeated load tests were performed on the unbound and lightly bound materials to measure their resilient modulus. The test results show important improvements in the bond strength between the contents of road base materials. This offers the prospect of using these materials in road base materials to reduce the use of primary aggregates and thus minimize the cost of roads and highways construction.
