Purpose–The purpose of this paper is to demonstrate the effectiveness and advantages of using perceptual tolerance neighbourhoods in tolerance space-based image similarity measures and its application in content-based image classification and ***/methodology/approach–The proposed method in this paper is based on a set-theoretic approach,where an image is viewed as a set of local visual *** method also includes a tolerance relation that detects the similarity between pairs of elements,if the difference between corresponding feature vectors is less than a threshold 2(0,1).Findings–It is shown that tolerance space-based methods can be successfully used in a complete content-based image retrieval(CBIR)***,it is shown that perceptual tolerance neighbourhoods can replace tolerance classes in CBIR,resulting in more accuracy and less ***/value–The main contribution of this paper is the introduction of perceptual tolerance neighbourhoods instead of tolerance classes in a new form of the Henry-peters tolerance-based nearness measure(tNM)and a new neighbourhood-based tolerance-covering nearness measure(tcNM).Moreover,this paper presents a side–by–side comparison of the tolerance space based methods with other published methods on a test dataset of images.

Background: Bone fracture frequencies and survival rates are essential parameters in skeleton evolution, but information on the functional consequences of naturally healed fractures is scarce. No leg bone fracture healing in the wild has been reported so far from long-legged Charadriiformes(waders), which depend on bipedal locomotion for ***: We documented a healed but malaligned tarsometatarsus fracture in a wild Willet(Tringa [Catoptrophorus]semipalmata), and a malaligned tibiotarsus fracture in a Curlew(Numenius arquata) skeleton from a museum collection. Functional consequences of the malalignments were evaluated by kinematic analyses of videos(Willet) and in silico 3D modeling(Curlew).Results: The Willet's left tarsometatarsus exhibited an angular malalignment of 70°, resulting in a limping gait that was less pronounced at high than at low walking speed. The bird seemed unable to club the toes of the left foot together, apparently a secondary effect of the deformity. The Curlew's tibiotarsus showed an angular and an axial malalignment, causing the foot to rotate outwards when the intertarsal joint was flexed. Despite the severe effects of their injuries, the birds had survived at least long enough for the fractures to heal ***: Somewhat unexpectedly, leg fractures are not necessarily fatal in long-legged waders, even if deformities occur in the healing process. Bipedal locomotion on vegetated grounds must have been impeded due to the bone malalignments in both analyzed cases. The birds probably alleviated the impact of their handicaps by shifting a larger proportion of their activities to vegetation-free habitats.

In this paper we present the derivation of Canonical Workflow Modules from current workflows in simulation-based climate science in support of the elaboration of a corresponding framework for simulationbased *** first identified the different users and user groups in simulation-based climate science based on their reasons for using the resources provided at the German Climate Computing Center(DKRZ).What is special about this is that the DKRZ provides the climate science community with resources like high performance computing(HPC),data storage and specialised services,and hosts the World Data Center for Climate(WDCC).Therefore,users can perform their entire research workflows up to the publication of the data on the same *** analysis shows,that the resources are used by two primary user types:those who require the HPC-system to perform resource intensive simulations to subsequently analyse them and those who reuse,build-on and analyse existing *** then further subdivided these top-level user categories based on their specific goals and analysed their typical,idealised workflows applied to achieve the respective project *** find that due to the subdivision and further granulation of the user groups,the workflows show apparent ***,similar"Canonical Workflow Modules"can be clearly made *** modules are"Data and Software(Re)use","Compute","Data and Software Storing","Data and Software Publication","Generating Knowledge"and in their entirety form the basis for a Canonical Workflow Framework for Research(CWFR).It is desirable that parts of the workflows in a CWFR act as FDOs,but we view this aspect ***,we reflect on the question whether the derivation of Canonical Workflow modules from the analysis of current user behaviour still holds for future systems and work processes.

AIM:To study the impact of an endoscopy-based long-term study on the quality of life in healthy volunteers(HV).METHODS:Ten HV were included into a long-term prospective endoscopy-based placebo-controlled trial with 15 endoscopic examinations per person in 5 different drug *** completed short form-36(SF-36) and visual analog scale-based questionnaires(VAS) for different abdominal symptoms at days 0,7 and 14 of each drug *** wereperformed according to short-and long-term changes and compared to the control ***:All HV completed the study with duration of more than 6 *** quality of life score was comparable to a general *** of the SF-36 questionnaires showed no significant changes in physical,mental and total scores,either in a short-term perspective due to different medications,or to potentially endoscopic procedure-associated long-term cumulative *** to SF-36,VAS revealed no significant changes in total scores for pathological abdominal symptoms and remained unchanged over the time course and when compared to the control ***:This study demonstrates that quality of life in HV is not significantly affected by a longterm endoscopy-based study with multiple endoscopic procedures.

This study evaluated corn(Zea mays ***)canopy vigor and temperature variations using small unmanned aerial system(UAS)based spatiotemporal imagery *** key objective was to develop understanding on site-specific suitability of the Mid Elevation Spray Application(MESA)and Low Elevation Spray Application(LESA)sprinkler systems in irrigating corn crop and potential water as well as energy *** data was collected through small UAS flights at 100m height above ground level and on 49,59,65,77,105,114,134 days after planting(DAP).Small UAS had 5-band multispectral and radiometric thermal imager on-board the *** image processing algorithms were developed to extract various vegetation indices(Normalized difference vegetation index[NDVI],Green NDVI[GNDVI]and Normalized difference red edge[NDRE])and canopy temperature maps from the imagery *** sample T-test was performed on extracted data to understand significant difference,at 5%level,within the LESA and MESA *** both the irrigation techniques,the crop vigor increased in the early growth stage(49,65 DAP),peaked in the mid growth stage(77,105,114 DAP)and then decreased in the late growth stage(134 DAP).The MESA irrigated sections had higher vigor(NDVI,GNDVI,NDRE),but not significant,compared to LESA throughout the ***,the MESA irrigated areas had significantly(0.61–2.07C)cooler canopies than *** results were anticipated,in part due to the issues with the sprinkler heads used in *** heads were being pulled off in the corn field,causing the weighted hose to damage the crop.A different kind of sprinkler head was used after this ***,some strips of corn had already been ***,this study results confirm suitability of aerial imagery data in evaluating pertinent irrigation *** season’s data would be needed to clearly understand which technique(LESA or MESA)is more suitable for irrigating corn crop in the central part

High manganese steels can damage the differential thermal analysis （DTA） instrument due to the manganese evaporation during high temperature experiments. After analyzing the relationship between residual oxygen and manganese evaporation, tanta- lum metal was employed to modify the crucible of DTA, and zirconium getter together with strict gas purification measures were applied to control the volatilization of manganese. By these modifications, problems of thermocouple damage and DTA instrument contamination were successfully resolved. Cobalt samples were adopted to calibrate the accuracy of DTA instruments under the same trial condition of high manganese steel samples, and the detection error was confirmed to be less than 1 ℃. Liquidus and soli- dus temperatures of high Mn steels were measured by improved DTA method. It was found that the liquidus temperatures of sam- ples tested by experiments increased linearly with the heating rates. To eliminate the effects of the heating rate, equilibrium liquidus temperature was determined by fitting the liquidus temperatures at different heating rates, and referred as real liquidus temperature. No clear relationship between solidus temperatures and heating rates was found, and the solidus temperature was finally set as the average value of several experimental data.
