Synaptic dysfunction occurs early in Alzheimer＇s disease （AD） and is acknowledged as a primary pathologic target for treatment. Synaptic degeneration is the pathological feature most strongly correlated with loss of cognitive function ante mortern （Terry et al., 1991）. Synapses are heavily damaged in hippocampal and neocortical regions of AD brain, whereas motor and occipital cortices are relatively spared （Honer et al., 1992）. Despite extensive work, the molecular mechanisms underlying synaptic degeneration are largely unknown.

AIM：To report the change in visual acuity and central macular thickness（CMT）following treatment with intravitreal aflibercept injections in patients with neovascular agerelated macular degeneration（n AMD）with suboptimum response to ***：This was a retrospective study. The inclusion criteria were patients with n AMD who responded poorly to ranibizumab. Patients then received either 3 consecutive aflibercept injections followed by pro re nata（PRN）treatment or PRN alone. Primary endpoints were mean change in bestcorrected visual acuity（BCVA）and CMT at 12 mo. Secondary endpoints were number of injections and adverse ***：Forty-nine eyes from 49 patients met the inclusion criteria and completed 12-month follow up on aflibercept. Thirty-eight eyes received 3 consecutive aflibercept injections followed by PRN treatment and 11 eyes received PRN injections alone. At 12 mo,mean BCVA improved by one letters（log MAR 0.56±0.31 to 0.54±0.34）and mean CMT decreased from 303.9±82.1 to 259.2±108.3 μ*** percent of eyes gained 15 letters or more,6% lost more than 15 letters and the remaining 90% had stable BCVA. The mean number of aflibercept injections was *** was one case of infectious ***：Intravitreal aflibercept in patients with n AMD with a previous suboptimal response to ranibizumab resulted in an anatomical improvement in macular appearance at 12 mo without a corresponding improvement in visual acuity.

Background Although recent data in healthy humans suggestthat treatment with intranasal oxytocin(0T)may facilitate extinction recall,to date,little is known about the effects of 0T on memory *** To examine the effect of intranasal administration of OT compared with placebo on memory consolidation blockade of a de novo fear memory in a classical 2-day fear conditioning *** There were no significant differences between the 0T and the placebo groups on the first two extinction trials(mean(SD)=0.01(0.39)vs 0.15(0.31),t=-1.092,p=0.28).Similarly,during early extinction,analysis of variance for repeated measures failed to show significant main effects of extinction trials:trials(F(4,112)=1.58,p=0.18),drug(F(1,112)=0.13,p=0.72)or drug x trials interaction(F(4,112)=0.76,p=0.56).Conclusion Our results suggest that 0T administered in a double-blind fashion immediately after fear conditioning does not significantly reduce consolidation of fear learning as measured by a differential skin conductance response tested at the beginning of extinction.

Among the most prominent, large-scale patterns of species richness are the increases in richness with decreasing latitude and with increasing habitat heterogeneity. Using the stream-dwelling larval and pupal stages of North American black flies （Diptera： Simuliidae）, we address 3 broad questions about species richness：（i） Does a significant latitude-richness relationship exist？（ii） How does habitat heterogeneity influence gamma diversity？（iii） What is the sign （positive or negative） of the latitude-richness and the heterogeneity-richness relationships？ We found no evidence that habitat heterogeneity influences gamma diversity. The estimated peak species richness for black flies in North America was at 50-53°N, which also corresponds with peak generic richness. All plesiomorphic, extant lineages of the Simuliidae in the Western Hemisphere are found in cool mountainous environments of North America, suggesting that peak richness at 50-53°N might be a signature of this phylogenetic pattern and a reflection of underlying historical processes

BACKGROUND Conduction and rhythm abnormalities requiring permanent pacemakers(PPM)are short-term complications following transcatheter aortic valve replacement(TAVR),and their clinical outcomes remain *** novel predictors of post-TAVR PPM,like QRS duration,QTc prolongation,and supraventricular arrhythmias,have been poorly *** To evaluate the effects of baseline nonspecific interventricular conduction delay and supraventricular arrhythmia on post-TAVR PPM requirement and determine the impact of PPM implantation on clinical *** RESULTS Out of the 357 patients that met inclusion criteria,the mean age was 80 years,188(52.7%)were male,and 57(16%)had a PPM *** demographics,valve type,and cardiovascular risk factors were similar except for type II diabetes mellitus(DM),which was more prevalent in the PPM cohort(59.6%vs 40.7%;P=0.009).The PPM cohort had a significantly higher rate of pre-procedure right bundle branch block,prolonged QRS>120 ms,prolonged QTc>470 ms,and supraventricular *** was a consistently significant increase in the odds ratio(OR)of PPM implantation for every 20 ms increase in the QRS duration above 100 ms:QRS 101-120[OR:2.44;confidence intervals(CI):1.14-5.25;P=0.022],QRS 121-140(OR:3.25;CI:1.32-7.98;P=0.010),QRS 141-160(OR:6.98;CI:3.10-15.61;P120(aOR:2.18;CI:1.02-4.66;P=0.045)and marginally significant for supraventricular arrhythmias(aOR:1.82;CI:0.97-3.42;P=0.062).The PPM cohort had a higher adjusted OR of heart failure(HF)hospitalization(aOR:2.2;CI:1.1-4.3;P=0.022)and nonfatal myocardial infarction(MI)(aOR:3.9;CI:1.1-14;P=0.031)without any difference in mortality(aOR:1.1;CI:0.5-2.7;P=0.796)at one *** Pre-TAVR type II DM and QRS duration>120,regardless of the presence of bundle branch blocks,are predictors of post-TAVR *** 1-year post-
