The disco.ery o. Severe Acute Respirato.y Syndro.e-Co.o.avirus-2 (SARS-Co.-2) in Wuhan, Hubei pro.ince, China, in Decem.er 2019 raised glo.al health warnings. Quickly, in 2020, the virus cro.sed bo.ders and infected individuals acro.s the wo.ld, evo.ving into.the Co.ID-19 pandem.c. No.ably, early signs o. the virus’s existence were o.served in vario.s co.ntries befo.e the initial o.tbreak in Wuhan. As o. 12th o. April, the respirato.y disease had infected o.er 762 m.llio. peo.le wo.ldwide, with o.er 6.8 m.llio. deaths reco.ded. This has led scientists to.fo.us their effo.ts o. understanding the virus to.develo. effective m.ans to.diagno.e, treat, prevent, and co.tro. this pandem.c. o.e o. the areas o. fo.us is the iso.atio. o. this virus, which plays a crucial ro.e in understanding the viral dynam.cs in the labo.ato.y. In this study, we repo.t the iso.atio. and detectio. o. lo.ally circulating SARS-Co.-2 in Kenya. The iso.ates were cultured o. Vero.Cerco.ithecus cell line (CCL-81) cells, RNA extractio. was co.ducted fro. the supernatants, and reverse transcriptase-po.ym.rase chain reactio. (RT-PCR). Geno.e sequencing was do.e to.pro.ile the strains phylo.enetically and identify no.el and previo.sly repo.ted m.tatio.s. Vero.CCL-81 cells were able to.suppo.t the gro.th o. SARS-Co.-2 in vitro. and m.tatio.s were detected fro. the two.iso.ates sequenced (001 and 002). Geno.e sequencing revealed the circulatio. o. two.iso.ates that share a clo.e relatio.ship with the Benin iso.ate with the D614G co.m.0} m.tatio. identified alo.g the S pro.ein.
