Rose is one of the most important ornamental and economic plants in the *** rose cultivars are primarily tetraploid,and during meiosis,they may exhibit double reduction or preferential chromosome ***,the construction of a high density genetic map of tetraploid rose is both challenging and *** this study,a tetraploid rose population was used to conduct a genetic analysis using genome sequencing.A total of 17382 single nucleotide polymorphism(SNP)markers were selected from 2308042 detected *** with 440 previously developed simple sequence repeats(SSR)and amplified fragment length polymorphism(AFLP)markers,a marker dosage of 6885 high quality markers was successfully assigned by GATK software in the tetraploid *** markers were used in the construction of a high density genetic map,containing the expected seven linkage groups with 6842 markers,a total map length of 1158.9 c m,and an average inter-marker distance of 0.18 c *** trait locus(QTL)analysis was subsequently performed to characterize the genetic architecture of petal number and flower *** major QTL(qpnum-3-1)was detected for petal number in three consecutive years,which explained 20.18–22.11%of the variation in petal *** QTLs were detected for flower diameter;the main locus,qfdia-2-2,was identified in two consecutive *** results will benefit the molecular marker-assisted breeding of modern rose *** addition,this study provides a guide for the genetic and QTL analysis of autotetraploid plants using sequencing-based genotyping methods.

Towards implementation of alloy-specific thermo-fluid modelling for laser powder-bed fusion of mg alloys

multi-physics thermo-fluid modeling has been extensively used as an approach to understand melt pool dynamics and defect formation as well as optimizing the process-related parameters of laser powder-bed fusion(L-PBF).However,its capabilities for being implemented as a reliable tool for material design,where minor changes in material-related parameters must be accurately captured,is still in *** the present research,first,a thermo-fluid computational fluid dynamics(CFD)model is developed and validated against experimental *** the predicted material properties of the pure mg and commercial ZK60 and WE43 mg alloys,parametric studies are done attempting to elucidate how the difference in some of the material properties,i.e.,saturated vapor pressure,viscosity,and solidification range,can influence the melt pool *** is found that a higher saturated vapor pressure,associated with the ZK60 alloy,leads to a deeper unstable keyhole,increasing the keyhole-induced porosity and evaporation mass *** viscosity and wider solidification range can increase the non-uniformity of temperature and velocity distribution on the keyhole walls,resulting in increased keyhole instability and formation of ***,the WE43 alloy showed the best behavior in terms of defect formation and evaporation mass loss,providing theoretical support to the extensive use of this alloy in *** summary,this study suggests an approach to investigate the effect of materials-related parameters on L-PBF melting and solidification,which can be extremely helpful for future design of new alloys suitable for L-PBF.

Dense genetic maps create a base for QTL analysis of important traits and future implementation of marker-assisted *** tetraploid rose,the existing linkage maps includemarkers to cover 28 linkage groups(4 homologous sets of 7 chromosomes).Here we used the 68k WagRhSNP Axiom single-nucleotide polymorphism(SNP)array for rose,in combination with SNP dosage calling at the tetraploid level,to genotype offspring from the garden rose cultivar‘Red New Dawn’.The offspring proved to be not from a single bi-parental *** rose breeding,crosses with unintended parents occur *** developed a strategy to separate progeny into putative populations,even while one of the parents was unknown,using principle component analysis on pairwise genetic distances based on sets of selected SNP markers that were homozygous,and therefore uninformative for one *** of the inferred populations was consistent with self-fertilization of‘Red New Dawn’.Subsequently,linkage maps were generated for a bi-parental and a self-pollinated population with‘Red New Dawn’as the common maternal *** densest map,for the selfed parent,had 1929 SNP markers on 25 linkage groups,covering 1765.5 cm at an average marker distance of 0.9 *** with the strawberry(Fragaria vesca)genome was *** ICm1 corresponded to *** pseudochromosome 7(Fv7),ICm4 to Fv4,ICm5 to Fv3,ICm6 to Fv2 and ICm7 to *** ICm2 corresponded to parts of *** pseudochromosomes 1 and 6,whereas ICm3 is syntenic to the remainder of Fv6.

The recent completion of the rose genome sequence is not the end of a process,but rather a starting point that opens up a whole set of new and exciting *** to a high-quality genome sequence other genomic tools have also become available for rose,including transcriptomics data,a high-density single-nucleotide polymorphism array and software to perform linkage and quantitative trait locus mapping in *** cultivars are highly heterogeneous and *** vast diversity in cultivated roses can be explained through the genetic potential of the genus,introgressions from wild species into commercial tetraploid germplasm and the inimitable efforts of historical *** can now investigate how this diversity can best be exploited and refined in future breeding work,given the rich molecular toolbox now available to the rose breeding *** paper presents possible lines of research now that rose has entered the genomics era,and attempts to partially answer the question that arises after the completion of any draft genome sequence:‘Now that we have“the”genome,what’s next?’.Having access to a genome sequence will allow both(fundamental)scientific and(applied)breeding-orientated questions to be *** outline possible approaches for a number of these questions.

Spatial and temporal patterns of sarcoptic mange in wombats using the citizen science tool,WomSAT

There is currently limited information regarding the levels of infection and distribution of sarcoptic mange in the wombat population throughout *** analyzed cases of sarcoptic mange in bare-nosed wombats reported into WomSAT,a website and mobile phone application where citizen scientists can upload sightings of wombats,burrows,and sarcoptic mange *** used maxent software to predict locations and the environmental factors associated with sarcoptic mange occurrence in bare-nosed wombats.A total of 1379 sarcoptic mange-infected and 3043 non-sarcoptic mange-infected wombats were reported by 674 and 841 citizen scientists,*** all the wombats reported to WomSAT from 2015 to 2019,31.2%were infected with sarcoptic *** mange in bare-nosed wombats was reported in 502 suburbs across four *** South Wales had the highest number of sarcoptic mange cases reported to *** was no statistically significant seasonal variation of sarcoptic mange levels in bare-nosed *** model showed that Euclidean distance to urban areas was the highest contributing factor for sarcoptic mange *** distance to urban areas decreased,the suitability for sarcoptic mange *** precipitation was the next contributing factor in the model,with higher rainfall of 400–700 mm correlating to an increase in sarcoptic mange *** the data collected to date have provided the largest-scale contemporary distribution of sarcoptic mange in wombats,data should continue to be collected by citizen scientists as it is an easy and low-cost method of collecting data over large *** suggest targeting the identified hotspot areas and more site-specific studies for studying and mitigating sarcoptic mange in bare-nosed wombats.

Cannabinoids are lipophilic substances derived from Cannabis sativa that can exert a variety of effects in the human *** have been studied in cellular and animal models as well as in human clinical trials for their therapeutic benefits in several human *** of these include central nervous system(CNS)diseases and dysfunctions such as forms of epilepsy,multiple sclerosis,Parkinson’s disease,pain and neuropsychiatric *** addition,the endogenously produced cannabinoid lipids,endocannabinoids,are critical for normal CNS function,and if controlled or modified,may represent an additional therapeutic avenue for CNS *** review discusses in vitro cellular,ex vivo tissue and in vivo animal model studies on cannabinoids and their utility as therapeutics in multiple CNS *** addition,the review provides an overview on the use of cannabinoids in human clinical trials for a variety of CNS *** and endocannabinoids hold promise for use as disease modifiers and therapeutic agents for the prevention or treatment of neurodegenerative diseases and neurological disorders.

morphometric studies of 3D micro CT-scanned images can provide insights into the evolution of the brain and sensory structures but such data are still scarce for the most diverse mammalian order of *** reviewed and new data,we tested for convergence to extreme aridity and high elevation in the sensory and brain morphology of rodents,from morphometric data from micro-CT X-ray scans of 174 crania of 16 species of three distantly re-lated African murid(soft-furred mice,Praomyini,laminate-toothed rats,Otomyini,and gerbils,Gerbillinae)clades and one North American cricetid(deer mice and white-footed mice,Peromyscus)*** studies demon-strated convergent evolution acting on the oval window area of the cochlea(enlarged in extremely arid-adapted species of Otomyini and Gerbillinae)and on endocranial volume(reduced in high elevation taxa of Otomyini and Peromyscus).However,contrary to our predictions,we did notfind evidence of convergence in brain struc-ture to aridity,or in the olfactory/respiratory system(turbinate bones)to high *** structure differed,particularly in the petrosal lobules of the cerebellum and the olfactory bulbs,between Otomyini and Gerbillinae,with extreme arid-adapted species in each clade being highly divergent(not convergent)from other species in the same *** observed greater“packing”of the maxillary turbinate bones,which have important respiratory functions,in Peromyscus mice from high and low elevations compared to the high-elevation African Praomyini,but more complex patterns within Peromyscus,probably related to trade-offs in respiratory physiology and heat exchange in the nasal epithelium associated with high-elevation adaptation.

Feasibility,efficacy,and safety of animal-assisted activities with visiting dogs in inpatient pediatric oncology

Background Childhood cancer entails a heavy burden for patients and their *** advances in overall survival rates have increasingly brought long-term quality of life into ***-assisted activities(AAAs)have long been hypothesized to alleviate the burden on pediatric patients and their peers in the hospital ***,their use in inpatient pediatric oncology has been a sensitive issue mainly due to the fear of infections,resulting in a lack of *** study presents data on the feasibility,safety,and efficacy of AAAs from a single German *** Between 2018 and 2022,60 patients(median age=10.3 years)diagnosed with malignancy and undergoing treatment were visited by an intervention dog(total visits=100).Patients were screened for infections as per hospital policy,with additional microbiological testing performed based on *** dog was screened for human pathogens and *** data and hospitalizations were analyzed from two months prior to the first visit until two months after the last *** of being in the hospital,both with and without planned animal-assisted interventions and pre-and post-intervention state stress,were measured using a validated visual analogue scale(0-10).Results Patients benefited from AAAs,showing increased acceptance of being in the hospital(median:7.25 vs.4.50,Pmedian state stress ratings one hour after the visit compared to one hour before the visit(1.00 vs.4.25,Pmber of infections or unplanned hospitalizations,and no zoonoses were *** microbial screening tests of the dog were *** AAAs with visiting dogs in inpatient pediatric oncology are feasible and *** they hold promise for enhancing patients’well-being,further prospective studies are needed.
