Life,in combination with solar radiation and abiotic processes,is most probably the reason why liquid water has existed on Earth for over billions of years,and the global mean temperature has remained in a lifeenabling *** to limit or even reverse global warming must be derived from the knowledge of the Earth’s complex life-support *** this context,the balance between liquid and gaseous water plays a crucial role,and water management becomes an important field of innovation and action,globally,on the scale of watersheds but also on the very local *** use,reuse,and temporary storage of water in urban settings must be considered to limit over-extraction of water from natural resources,and to maintain the life supporting function of *** the same time,public health requirements,cost efficiency,and reliability demands are to be met.

Current abdominal surgery has several approaches for biliary ***,the creation of functional and clinically applicable bile duct substitutes still represents an unmet *** the paper by Miyazawa and colleagues,approaches to the creation of bile duct alternatives were summarized,and the reasons for the lack of development in this area were *** history of bile duct surgery since the nineteenth century was also traced,leading to the conclusion that the use of bioabsorbable materials holds promise for the creation of bile duct substitutes in the *** suggest three ideas that may stimulate progress in the field of bile duct substitute ***,a systematic analysis of the causative factors leading to failure or success in the creation of bile duct substitutes may help to develop more effective ***,the regeneration of a bile duct is delicately balanced between epithelialization and subsequent submucosal maturation within limited time frames,which may be more apparent when using quantitative models to estimate ***,the utilization of the organism’s endogenous regeneration abilities may enhance the creation of bile duct *** are convinced that an interdisciplinary approach,including quantitative methods,machine learning,and deep retrospective analysis of the causes that led to success and failure in studies on the creation of bile duct substitutes,holds great ***,more attention should be directed towards the balance of epithelialization and submucosal maturation rates,as well as induced *** ideas deserve further investigation to pave the way for bile duct restoration with physiologically relevant outcomes.

AIM To investigate whether autologous blood transfusion(ABT) drains and intra-operative cell salvage reduced donor blood transfusion requirements during scoliosis *** Retrospective data collection on transfusion requirements of patients undergoing scoliosis surgery is between January 2006 and March 2010. There were three distinct phases of transfusion practice over this time: Group A received "traditional treatment" with allogeneic red cell transfusion(ARCT) in response to an intra- or postoperative anaemia(Hb symptomatic anaemia); Group B received intra-operative cell salvage in addition to "traditional treatment". In group C,ABT wound drains were used together with both intra-operative cell salvage and "traditional treatment".REsULTs Data from 97 procedures on 77 patients,there was no difference in mean preoperative haemoglobin levels between the groups(A: 13.1 g/d L; B: 13.49 g/d L; C: 13.66 g/d L). Allogeneic red cell transfusion was required for 22 of the 37 procedures(59%) in group A,17 of 30(57%) in group B and 16 of 30(53%) in group C. There was an overall 6% reduction in the proportion of patients requiring an ARCT between groups A and C but this was not statistically significant(χ2 = 0.398). Patientsin group C received fewer units(mean 2.19) than group B(mean 2.94)(P = 0.984) and significantly fewer than those in group A(mean 3.82)(P = 0.0322). Mean length of inpatient stay was lower in group C(8.65 d) than in groups B(12.83) or A(12.62).CONCLUsION When used alongside measures to minimise blood loss during surgery,ABT drains and intra-operative cell salvage leads to a reduced need for donor blood transfusion in patients undergoing scoliosis surgery.

seasonal variations in weather have significant impacts on crop *** accuracy of weather data is an important consideration for crop yield *** study uses an independent in-situ weather station network to validate the accuracy of monthly temperature and precipitation data from the in-situ weather station network operated by the Bureau of Meteorology(BOM),interpolated gridded data from this network,and satellite weather data for the south West Agricultural Region of *** region covers five classes of the K?ppen-Geiger climate classification system and is responsible for 10 billion AUD of agricultural produce annually.A strong bias was found for the maximum temperatures in the Copernicus LsT(land surface temperature)satellite *** bias was linearly correlated with the in-situ temperature and exceeded 20℃in warmer *** to the bias’s linear nature,a linear correction was able to reduce the root-mean-square error(RMsE)of the Copernicus LsT product by 82%.This process was tested for other regions of Australia and,despite some regional differences,a linear correction consistently reduced RMsE by 80%.The validation process demonstrated that the dataset with reliably the lowest RMsE is the gridded weather data calculated from BOM’s in-situ weather *** neighbor in-situ weather stations generally had the next lowest RMsE,followed by weather-station corrected satellite products and lastly the non-weather station corrected satellite *** the in-situ gridded product generally had the lowest RMsE,there were spatial and seasonal *** maximum temperatures were more accurately measured by the bias-corrected Copernicus LsT product in the northern and eastern extents(where there is a lower density of BOM in-situ stations).Monthly minimum temperatures from the Copernicus LsT product had similar to slightly better RMsE than the Australian Water Availability Project(AWAP)product for the southern half of the study ar

The problems associated with the pharmacological treatment of the later stages of Parkinson’s disease(PD)remain those seen over many *** centre on a loss of drug effect(‘wearing off’)with disease progression,the occurrence of dyskinesia,notably with L-dopa use and the appearance of non-motor symptoms that are largely refractory to dopaminergic *** strategies in late PD have been dominated by the use of drug combinations and the subtle manipulation of drug ***,change is occurring as the understanding of the basis of motor complications and fluctuations and non-motor symptoms *** pharmacological options are expanding with the advent of longer acting versions of existing dopaminergic drugs,new drug delivery systems and the introduction of non-dopaminergic agents able to manipulate motor function both within the basal ganglia and in other brain ***-dopaminergic agents are also being investigated for the treatment of dyskinesia and for the relief of non-motor ***,while therapy continues to improve,the treatment of late stage PD remains problematic with non-motor symptoms dominating the unmet need in this patient group.
