Emission factor is a measure of pollution intensities caused by economic activities, which can be used to assess potential for pollution reduection. With the emission factors derived based on relatively few datu points or based on data collected from a specfic region, one can predict the total environmental pollution levels for the drire economy or for another region once the total leve of economic actvities of the concemed economy or region is known or prescribed. Moreover,research on emission factors can not only guide the decision-making process in choosing the best environmental protection strategy, but also be used as indicators. for the assessment and comparison of the environmentally sound development. In this paper, emission factors based on output and employment in different periods,provinces and industries are calculated, based on which temporal and spatial analyses of emission factors are carried out. Obvious declining trends of emission factors both by provinces and industries are declared, and the regional differentiation by provinces and industries is also verified.

Bone like tissues are biocomposites comprising an organic matrix （mostly collagen） and a reinforcement phase in the form of mineral crystals （poorly stoichiometric apatite）. The composite properties are a result of the material characteristics of the two phases, their interaction, the relative composition, the orientation and the micro-architecture of the structure. The inherent spatial heterogeneity of these tissues （a result of evolutionary and functional requirements） and their exposure to various environmental and mechanical influences result in highly variable properties on the microscale, which can only be characterised by modern microanalytical methods. We present here results obtained by the complementary use of the modem nanoindentation and micro-X-ray diffraction techniques, which were used to probe the properties and structure of human dentine and enamel of primary molar teeth. The results show that both the addition and the higher organization of mineral within the organic matrix produce stiffer and harder tissue and that the examination of properties within small tissue volumes can be reliably achieved by use of these two methods in parallel. This opens new avenues in the study of biomaterial in general, and for the local characterisation of regions of teeth that suffered bacterial attack, mechanical wear, fluoridisation, chemical bleaching, or dental treatment such as laser ablation or drilling.

Pulverised coal injection started at BlueScope Steel’s Port Kembla blast furnaces in 2002. With significant economic advantages to reduce consumption of coking coal via increasing the quantity of pulverised coal injected to the blast furnaces, a three-dimensional numerical model of the blowpipe/tuyere/raceway has been developed. The model has been applied in various plant-specific investigations of blast parameters, and more recently in the development of alternate coal injection lance tip geometries. The designs with the highest potential for increasing coal burnout included swirl and high dispersive tip designs. The reduction in char load entering the furnace for the best performing alternate designs was due to an increase in coal dispersion compared with the conventional design. A full-scale trial of the swirl lance design was carried out at Port Kembla’s BF6 in mid-2008. The trial delivered promising results, with PCI rates maintained. This was despite unrelated changes to the coke ash content and the burden mix fed to the furnace, which would normally reduce furnace permeability.

The Fourth International Workshop on Tropical Cyclone Landfall Processes(IWTCLP-4) was held in Macao, China from 5-7 December 2017. The workshop was organized by the World Meteorological Organization(WMO) Expert Team on Tropical Cyclone Landfall Processes in partnership with the WMO Tropical Cyclone Program. The workshop provided a forum for discussion between researchers and forecasters on the current status of tropical cyclone landfall processes and on priorities and opportunities for research. More than 60 leading research scientists and warning specialists working on topics related to tropical cyclone landfall examined current knowledge, forecasting and research trends from an integrated global perspective. The workshop offered a number of recommendations for future forecasting studies and research with special regard to the varying needs of different tropical cyclone af fected regions. The recommendations emanating from the workshop will be presented at the upcoming Ninth International Workshop on Tropical Cyclones(IWTC-9)(Hawaii, USA, 3-7 December 2018).

This review prepared for the fourth International Workshop on Tropical Cyclone Landfall Processes(IWTCLP-4) summarizes the most recent(2015-2017) theoretical and practical knowledge in the field of tropical cyclone(TC) track, intensity, and structure rapid changes at or near landfall. Although the focus of IWTCLPIV was on landfall, this summary necessarily embraces the characteristics of storms during their course over the ocean prior to and leading up to landfall. In the past few years, extremely valuable observational datasets have been collected for TC forecasting guidance and research studies using both aircraft reconnaissance and new geostationary or low-earth orbiting satellites at high temporal and spatial resolution. Track deflections for systems near complex topography such as that of Taiwan and La Réunion have been further investigated, and advanced numerical models with high spatial resolution necessary to predict the interaction of the TC circulation with steep island topography have been developed. An analog technique has been designed to meet the need for longer range landfall intensity forecast guidance that will provide more time for emergency preparedness. Probabilistic track and intensity forecasts have also been developed to better communicate on forecast uncertainty. Operational practices of several TC forecast centers are described herein and some challenges regarding forecasts and warnings for TCs making landfall are identified. This review concludes with insights from both researchers and forecasters regarding future directions to improve predictions of TC track, intensity, and structure at landfall.
