Introducing 3D-potting:a novel production process for artificial membrane lungs with superior blood flow design

Currently,artificial-membrane lungs consist of thousands of hollow fiber membranes where blood flows around the fibers and gas flows inside the fibers,achieving diffusive gas *** both ends of the fibers,the interspaces between the hollow fiber membranes and the plastic housing are filled with glue to separate the gas from the blood *** a uniaxial centrifugation process,the glue forms the“potting.”The shape of the cured potting is then determined by the centrifugation process,limiting design possibilities and leading to unfavorable stagnation zones associated with blood *** this study,a new multiaxial centrifugation process was developed,expanding the possible shapes of the potting and allowing for completely new module designs with potentially superior blood flow guidance within the potting ***-phase simulations of the process in conceptual artificial lungs were performed to explore the possibilities of a biaxial centrifugation process and determine suitable parameter sets.A corresponding biaxial centrifugation setup was built to prove feasibility and experimentally validate four conceptual designs,resulting in good agreement with the *** summary,this study shows the feasibility of a multiaxial centrifugation process allowing greater variety in potting shapes,eliminating inefficient stagnation zones and more favorable blood flow conditions in artificial lungs.

The literature gap in microfinance paradox of double bottom line(financial performance ***)has always been an interesting area of *** paper proposes a theoretical model most suitable for Islamic microfinance Institutions(mFIs)which enables Islamic mFIs’to operate together with the existing financial models compliant with Islamic Shariah *** model is based on a distributed verification/decision-making process that might be realized(but not necessary)through *** the available distributed verification techniques,blockchain technology is an attractive emerging computing paradigm due to its decentralized,immutable,shared,and secure data structure *** model proposes three significant ***,sharing information through blockchain will allow a transparent network in mFI operations,which will raise confidence for donors resulting in a causal effect of a relatively lower profit rate to be charged by the ***,the consensus mechanism will enable risk-sharing,a character of Islamic finance;thus,the mFIs will operate without any collateral for low-risk ***,the double bottom line of mFIs’long-lasting paradox would be *** for practical implication of this proposed model,the causal impact of lower cost investment by the lenders would increase social welfare because of no collateral and no initial wealth *** proposed model proposes a credit rationing approach where profit can be *** collateral will be used when calculating the creditworthiness of a borrower.

Tender evaluation through efficiency analysis for public construction contracts

Given the European Public Procurement Directive 2014/24/EU,policymakers have ordered the inclusion of various criteria,such as the price,life-cycle costs,environmental,and social aspects,in the evaluation of tenders for public construction ***,the relevance of non-monetary award criteria has gained significant ***,the established evaluation formulas,which are used to obtain the best value for money procurement,have resulted in legal *** existing evaluation formulas exhibit mathematical weaknesses,wherein scoring indices do not express economic efficiency ***,a conflict is observed between the political requirement of non-monetary award criteria and their evaluation by contracting *** overcome such dilemma,an extensive literature review is ***,this study explores the essential problems of existing evaluation formulas and develops a more reliable *** technique from the field of efficiency analysis,i.e.,Data Envelopment Analysis(DEA),is adopted in this *** contract awarding,the DEA is extended by introducing a decision theoretical *** public procurement,the proposed method combines two ***,the proposed method ensures the derivation of a robust tender ranking given that with respect to clients’preferences,irrelevant and insufficiently tailored tenders do not influence the ***,the proposed method supports the intention of policy makers to promote public goals,such as sustainable *** disclosing the strengths and weaknesses of bidders with respect to their competitors,all bidders can obtain a precise overview of their performance regarding the award *** sum,the proposed method allows a targeted improvement of certain criteria values in future tenders and consequently leads to an enhancement of public goals.

Sensor fusion-based approach for the field robot localization on Rovitis 4.0 vineyard robot

This study proposed an approach for robot localization using data from multiple low-cost sensors with two goals in mind,to produce accurate localization data and to keep the computation as simple as *** approach used data from wheel odometry,inertial-motion data from the Inertial motion Unit(ImU),and a location fix from a Real-Time Kinematics Global Positioning System(RTK GPS).Each of the sensors is prone to errors in some situations,resulting in inaccurate *** odometry is affected by errors caused by slipping when turning the robot or putting it on slippery *** ImU produces drifts due to vibrations,and RTK GPS does not return to an accurate fix in(semi-)occluded *** of these sensors is accurate enough to produce a precise reading for a sound localization of the robot in an outdoor *** solve this challenge,sensor fusion was implemented on the robot to prevent possible localization *** worked by selecting the most accurate readings in a given moment to produce a precise pose *** evaluate the approach,two different tests were performed,one with robot localization from the robot operating system(ROS)repository and the other with the presented Field Robot *** first did not perform well,while the second did and was evaluated by comparing the location and orientation estimate with ground truth,captured by a hovering drone above the testing ground,which revealed an average error of 0.005 m±0.220 m in estimating the position,and 0.6°±3.5°when estimating *** tests proved that the developed field robot localization is accurate and robust enough to be used on a ROVITIS 4.0 vineyard robot.

It is shown that a germ of a holomorphic mapping sending a real-analytic generic submanifold of finite type into another is determined by its projection on the Segre variety of the target manifold. A necessary and sufficient condition is given for a germ of a mapping into the Segre variety of the target manifold to be the projection of a holomorphic mapping sending the source manifold into the target. An application to the biholomorphic equivalence problem is also given.

A Novel ABA Insensitive mutant of Lotus japonicus with a Wilty Phenotype Displays Unaltered Nodulation Regulation

An ABA insensitive mutant, Beyma, was isolated in Lotus japonicus mG-20 from an EmS mutagenesis population using root growth inhibition to applied ABA as the screening criterion. （The name ＂Beyma＂ was taken from the Australian Aboriginal language, Wagiman, beyma, meaning ‘drying up＇.） The stable mutant that segregates as a dominant mendelian mutation is insensitive to ABA induced inhibition of germination, vegetative growth, stomatal opening, as well as nodulation. Tissue ABA levels were normal, suggesting a sensitivity rather than biosynthesis mutation. It is slow-growing （50-70% of wild-type mG-20） and has a near-constitutive wilty phenotype associated with its inability to regulate stomatal opening. Whilst showing a wide range of ABA insensitive phenotypes, Beyma did not show alteration of nodule number control, as, in the absence of added ABA, the number and patterning （but not size） of nodules formed in the mutant were similar to that of mG-20. Split root experiments on mG-20 showed that application of ABA on one side of the root inhibited nodulation locally but not systemically. We propose that ABA is not involved directly in systemic autoregulation of nodulation （AON）.

Significant Lifetime Enhancement in QLEDs by Reducing Interfacial Charge Accumulation via Fluorine Incorporation in the ZnO Electron Transport Layer

ZnO nanoparticles are widely used for the electron transport layers(ETLs)of quantum dots light emitting devices(QLEDs).In this work we show that incorporating fluorine(F)into the ZnO ETL results in significant enhancement in device electroluminescence stability,leading to LT50 at 100 cd m^(−2) of 2,370,000 h in red QLED,47X longer than the control devices.X-ray photo-electron spectroscopy,time-of-flight secondary ion mass spectroscopy,photoluminescence and electrical measurements show that the F passivates oxygen vacancies and reduces electron traps in *** photoluminescence versus bias measurements and capacitance-voltage-luminance measurements reveal that the CF4 plasma-treated ETLs lead to increased electron concentration in the QD and the QD/hole transport layer interface,subsequently decreasing hole accumulation,and hence the higher *** findings provide new insights into the critical roles that optimizing charge distribution across the layers play in influencing stability and present a novel and simple approach for extending QLED lifetimes.

On some aspects of minimum redundancy maximum relevance feature selection

The feature selection is an important challenge in many areas of machine learning because it plays a crucial role in the interpretations of machine-driven decisions. There are various approaches to the feature selection problem and methods based on the information theory comprise an important ***, the minimum redundancy maximum relevance(m RmR) feature selection is undoubtedly the most popular one with widespread application. In this paper, we prove in contrast to an existing finding that the m RmR is not equivalent to max-Dependency criterion for first-order incremental feature selection. We present another form of equivalence leading to a generalization of m RmR feature selection. Additionally,we compare several feature selection methods based on m RmR, max-Dependency, and feature ranking,employing different measures of dependency. The results on high-dimensional real-world datasets show that the distance correlation is the suitable measure for dependency-based feature selection methods. The results also indicate that the max-Dependency incremental algorithm combined with distance correlation appears to be a promising feature selection approach.
