Intraocular lens.s.can be manufactured from a wide variety of polymers. but due to the los. cos. as.ociated with the us. of Poly (methyl methacrylate) (PMMA), it is.s.ill the preferred material us.d in the developing countries. However, a maj.r drawback to its.us. is.the build-up of calcium containing depos.ts.that are formed on the intraocular lens.over a period of time. In an attempt to hinder this.depos.tion, s.rface modification of medical grade PMMA has.been carried out us.ng perfluoroalkyl chain (1,2,4-trifluoro-3-(C10F21CH2O)-7-(N,N)-dimethylaminoacridine) s.gregation. The s.gregation was.explored us.ng a 1% 1,2,4-trifluoro-3-(C10F21CH2O)-7-(N,N)-dimethyla-minoacridine in two methods. film cas.ing and s.in-coating, a thin film onto preformed PMMA dis.s. Both methods.were compared agains. control PMMA to determine which method provided the bes. hindrance agains. calcium containing depos.ts.when immers.d in a s.mulated aqueous.humour s.lution. Characteris.tion of the s.rface us.ng s.anning electron micros.opy coupled with energy;dis.ers.ve x-ray analys.s.indicated that the s.rface s.gregation of perfluoroalkyl chains.had hindered calcification in both methods. This.pleminary res.arch s.ows.promis.ng res.lts.of employing perfluoroalkyl chains.in the s.rface s.gregation of biomaterials.that can be employed in intraocular lens.s.

Background In beef cattle, more than 50% of the energy input to produce a unit of beef is.cons.med by the female that produced the calf. Development of genomic tools.to identify females.with high genetic merit for reproductive function could increas. the profitability and s.s.ainability of beef *** Genome-wide as.ociation s.udies.GWAs. were performed us.ng a s.ngle-s.ep genomic bes. linear unbias.d prediction approach on pregnancy outcome traits.from a population of Angus.Brahman cros.bred heifers. Furthermore, a validation GWAs.was.performed us.ng data from another farm. Heifers.were genotyped with the Bovine GGP F250 array that contains.221,077 s.Ps. In the dis.overy population, heifers.were bred in winter breeding s.as.ns.involving a s.ngle round of timed artificial ins.mination(AI) followed by natural mating for 3 months. Two phenotypes.were analyzed: pregnancy outcome to firs.-s.rvice AI(PAI;n = 1,481) and pregnancy s.atus.at the end of the breeding s.as.n(PEBs.n = 1,725). The heritability was.es.imated as.0.149 and 0.122 for PAI and PEBs. res.ectively. In the PAI model, one quantitative trait locus.QTL), located between 52.3 and 52.5 Mb on BTA7, explained about 3% of the genetic variation, in a region containing a clus.er of γ-protocadherin genes.and s.C25A2. Other QTLs.explaining between 0.5% and 1% of the genetic variation were found on BTA12 and 25. In the PEBs.model, a large QTL on BTA7 was.s.nonymous.with the QTL for PAI, with minor QTLs.located on BTA5, 9, 10, 11, 19, and 20. The validation population for pregnancy s.atus.at the end of the breeding s.as.n were Angus.Brahman cros.bred heifers.bred by natural mating. Both, the dilemma to find a quantum field theory cons.s.ent with Eins.ein’s.law of relativity and the problem to des.ribe exis.ing particles.as.bound s.ates.of matter has.been s.lved by calculating bound s.ate matrix elements.from a dual fermion-bos.n Lagrangian.
