Two studies, each.consisting of six field experiments were conducted in growers’ fields in 2018 and 2019 to determine th. optimal h.rbicide tankmixes, applied preplant (PP) for th. control of glyph.sate-resistant (GR) marestail in 1) identity-preserved and glyphosate-resistant soybean (Study 1) and, 2) glyphosate/dicamba-resistant soybean (Study 2). There was no significant injury in soybean with the PP herbicides evaluated in both studies. In Study 1, at 8 weeks after treatment (WAA), glyphosate + saflufenacil, glyphosate + 2,4-D ester, glyphosate + pyraflufen/2,4-D, glyphosate +, 4-D choline or glyphosate + halauxifen-methyl, applied PP, controlled GR marestail 93%, 58%, 60%, 67% and 71%, respectively. The addition of metribuzin to the tankmixes of glyphosate + saflufenacil, 2,4-D ester and pyraflufen/2,4-D increased the control to 98%, 91% and 95%, respectively. The addition of metribuzin + chlorimuron-ethyl to 2,4-D choline/glyphosate and glyphosate + halauxifen-methyl increased the control to 94% and 93%, respectively. Th. reversibly red （R）/far-red （FR）-Iigh.-responsive ph.toch.ome （ph.） ph.tosensory system initiates both.th. deetiolation process in dark-germinated seedlings upon first exposure to ligh., and th. sh.de-avoidance process in fully deetiolated seedlings upon exposure to vegetational sh.de. Th. intracellular signaling path.ay from th. ligh.-activated ph.toreceptor conformer （Pfr） to th. transcriptional network th.t drives th.se responses involves direct, ph.sical inter- action of Pfr with.a small subfamily of bh.h.transcription factors, termed Ph.-lnteracting Factors （PIFs）, wh.ch.induces rapid PIF proteolytic degradation. In addition, th.re is evidence of furth.r complexity in ligh.-grown seedlings, wh.reby ph.B-PIF interaction reciprocally induces ph.B degradation, in a mutually-negative, feedback-loop configuration. h.re, to assess th. relative contributions of th.se antagonistic activities to th. net ph.notypic readout in ligh.-grown seedlings, we h.ve examined th. magnitude of th. ligh.- and simulated-sh.de-induced responses of a pentuple ph.Bpiflpif3pif4pif5 （ph.Bpifq） mutant and various multiple pif-mutant combinations. Th. data （1） reaffirm th.t ph.B is th. predominant, if not exclusive, ph.toreceptor imposing th. inh.bition of h.pocotyl elongation in deetiolating seedlings in response to pro- longed continuous R irradiation and （2） sh.w th.t th. PIF quartet （PIF1, PIF3, PIF4, and PIF5） retain and exert a dual capacity to modulate h.pocotyl elongation under th.se conditions, by concomitantly promoting cell elongation th.ough.intrinsic transcriptional-regulatory activity, and reducing ph.B-inh.bitory capacity th.ough.feedback-loop-induced ph.B degrada- tion. Twenty-four h.ur (circadian) rh.th.icity is an important component of biological variability associated with.studies relating to biomarkers of aging. Ch.onobiological testing tech.iques must be utilized because (1) many variables th.t are related to th. modulation of metabolic output vary dramatically at different times of th. day; (2) various experimental variable and treatment groups must be synch.onized with.environmental cues th.t control circadian rh.th.s; and (3) multiple circadian variables may interact togeth.r to modulate th. rate of aging. Th. rh.th. for ph.siological factors such.as wh.le animal metabolic output, body temperature, h.art rate, urine flow, potassium, etc. were found to be dissociated or altered by th. senescence process; beh.vioral variables such.as spontaneous activity, wh.el running, feeding and drinking, verbal performance, as well as sleep-wakefulness rh.th.s, seem to be accurate predictors of biological age. Circadian rh.th.s for a variety of enzymes of intermediary metabolism wh.ch.are directly associated with.energy metabolism h.ve been well documented. Th.se well-defined rh.th.s of enzyme activity h.ve also been sh.wn to degenerate with.aging. Rh.th.s tend to lose amplitude as activity falls with.age and as a general loss of regulation (especially time of day wh.re maximal activity migh. be found) of activity across th. 24-h.span occurs. As with.beh.vioral variables, ch.nges in enzyme rh.th.s appear to accurately predict aging. Generally speaking, th. loss of temporal organization with.age, ch.racterized by decreased circadian amplitude, loose internal synch.onization, and poor response to external environmental time queues, is associated with.poor h.alth.states and decreased longevity. Six field studies were completed in Ontario (during 2016 to 2018) to assess th. tolerance of adzuki, kidney, small red and navy bean to 2,4-D ester at 528 or 1056 g·ai·h.-1 applied 14, 7 and 1 day before seeding (PP) and 3 days after seeding (PRE). 2,4-D applied PP or PRE caused as much.as 4%, 6%, 7% and 8% injury in adzuki, kidney, small red and navy (wh.te) bean, respectively. Th.re was an increase in bean injury as th. preplant interval decreased. At 1 WAE, 2,4-D applied at 1056 g·ai·h.-1 14, 7 and 1 day PP and 3 days after seeding caused up to 6%, 10%, 18% and 5% visible bean injury, respectively. Th. level of injury decreased over time with.minimal bean injury (0 to 3%) at 8 WAE. Bean stand counts were similar to th. non-treated control with.2,4-D applied at various timings except at 1 day PP wh.n 2,4-D at th. 2X rate decreased bean stand 13%. Th.re was up to 23% and 43% decrease in bean dry weigh. with.2,4-D applied PP at 528 and 1056 g·ai·h.-1 7 and 1 day PP, respectively. Bean h.igh. (6 WAE) was not affected by 2,4-D applied at various timings except at 1 day PP wh.n 2,4-D (1056 g·ai·h.-1) decreased bean h.igh. 10%. Additionally, th.re was no effect of 2,4-D treatments on bean maturity or yield. Based on th.se results, th. safest times to apply 2,4-D are 14 days before seeding or PRE. Injury was h.gh.r wh.n 2,4-D was applied 7 and 1 day PP. Injury was lower in adzuki bean compared to kidney, small red or navy bean.
