Glioblastoma multiforme(GBM)is an aggressive primary brain tumor characterized by extensive heterogeneity and vascular *** conditions in the tissue microenvironment are considered a pivotal player leading tumor ***,hypoxia is known to activate inducible factors,such as hypoxia-inducible factor 1alpha(HIF-1α),which in turn can stimulate tumor neo-angiogenesis through activation of various downward mediators,such as the vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF).Here,we aimed to explore the role of HIF-1α/VEGF immunophenotypes alone and in combination with other prognostic markers or clinical and image analysis data,as potential biomarkers of GBM prognosis and treatment *** performed a systematic review(Medline/Embase,and Pubmed database search was completed by 16th of April 2024 by two independent teams;PRISMA 2020).We evaluated methods of immunoassays,cell viability,or animal or patient survival methods of the retrieved studies to assess unbiased *** used inclusion criteria,such as the evaluation of GBM prognosis based on HIF-1α/VEGF expression,other biomarkers or clinical and imaging manifestations in GBM related to HIF-1α/VEGF expression,application of immunoassays for protein expression,and evaluation of the effectiveness of GBM therapeutic strategies based on HIF-1α/VEGF *** used exclusion criteria,such as data not reporting both HIF-1αand VEGF or *** included 50 studies investigating in total 1319 GBM human specimens,18 different cell lines or GBM-derived stem cells,and 6 different animal models,to identify the association of HIF-1α/VEGF immunophenotypes,and with other prognostic factors,clinical and macroscopic data in GBM prognosis and therapeutic *** found that increased HIF-1α/VEGF expression in GBM correlates with oncogenic factors,such as miR-210-3p,Oct4,AKT,COX-2,PdGF-C,PLdO3,M2 polarization,or ALK,leading to unfavorable *** HIF-1α/VEGF expression correlates with F

The aim of this study is to propose a photovoltaic(PV)module simulation model with high accuracy under practical working conditions and strong applicability in the engineering field to meet various PV system simulation *** previous model-building methods,this study combines the advantages of analytical and metaheuristic ***,the applicability of various metaheuristic algorithms is comprehensively compared and the seven parameters of the PV cell under standard test conditions are extracted using the double diode model,which verifies that the artificial hummingbird algorithm has higher accuracy than other ***,the seven parameters under different conditions are corrected using the analytical *** terms of the correc-tion method,the ideal factor correction is added on the basis of previous methods to solve the deviation between simulated data and measured data in the non-linear ***,the root mean squared error between the simulated current data and the measured current data of the proposed model under three different temperatures and irradiance is 0.0697,0.0570 and 0.0289 A,respectively.

Evaluation of thermal comfort and air quality of low-income housing in Kampala City,Uganda

This paper presents the results of thermal comfort and air quality studies in naturally ventilated residential buildings in Kampala City,*** surveys were used for obtaining occupant subjective thermal sensation *** and outdoor measurements for air temperature(T_(a)),Mean Radiant Temperature(MRT),relative humidity,air speed,and air quality were done for seven buildings over fifteen days during the month of June *** software was used to develop the reference building model and to simulate strategies for improvement of thermal *** results showed that 67.8%of the respondents were comfortable with the indoor thermal *** indoor air temperature range was 22.7℃-27.9℃ which lies within the 80%acceptable limits set by ASHRAE *** measured indoor MRT range was 24.24℃-25.57℃.Measured levels of indoor PM_(2.5)were double the World Health Organization recommended limits,while the levels of PM 10 were thrice the recommended limits of ASHRAE *** CO_(2)concentrations were within the limits set by ASHRAE *** developed model predicted comfortable indoor conditions with a temperature range of 23.6℃-25.3℃ based on the 80%acceptable limits set by ASHRAE *** results show that majority of occupants preferred cooler temperatures during the day which is justified by the use of adaptive measures to obtain thermal comfort.

Highly active and stable electrocatalysts are mandatory for developing high-performance and longlasting fuel *** current study demonstrates a high oxygen reduction reaction(ORR)electrocatalytic activity of a novel spinel-structured LaFe_(2)O_(4)via a self-doping *** LaFe_(2)O_(4)demonstrates excellent ORR activity in a protonic ceramic fuel cell(PCFC)at temperature range of 350-500℃.The high ORR activity of LaFe_(2)O_(4)is mainly attributed to the facile release of oxide and proton ions,and improved synergistic incorporation abilities associated with interplay of multivalent Fe^(3+)/Fe^(2+)and La^(3+)*** LaFe_(2)O_(4)as cathode over proton conducting BaZr_(0.4)Ce_(0.4)Y_(0.2)O_(3)(BZCY)electrolyte,the fuel cell has delivered a high-power density of 806 mW/cm^(2)operating at 500℃.different spectroscopic and calculations methods such as UV-visible,Raman,X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and density functional theory(dFT)calculations were performed to screen the potential application of LaFe_(2)O_(4)as *** study would help in developing functional cobalt-free ORR electrocatalysts for low temperature-PCFCs(LT-PCFCs)and solid oxide fuel cells(SOFCs)applications.

There has been a wealth of research that has examined the nature of rework in *** toward addressing the rework problem has been limited-it still plagues practice,adversely impacting a project’s *** all rework studies have focused on determining its proximal or root causes and therefore have overlooked the conditions that result from its *** filling this void,this paper draws upon our previous empirical studies,amongst others,to provide a much-needed theoretical framing to understand better why rework occurs,what its consequences are,and how it can be mitigated during *** theoretical framing we derive from our review provides construction organizations and their projects with a realization that the journey to mitigating rework begins with creating an error-mastery culture comprising authentic leadership,psychological safety,an errormanagement orientation,and *** suggest that,once an error-mastery culture is established within construction organizations and their projects,they will be better positioned to realize the benefits of the techniques,tools,and technologies espoused to address rework,such as the Last Planner® and building information *** also provide directions for future research and identify implications for practice so that strides toward rework mitigation in construction can be made.

Isolation and Characterization of SARS-CoV-2 in Kenya

The discovery of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome-Coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) in Wuhan, Hubei province, China, in december 2019 raised global health warnings. Quickly, in 2020, the virus crossed borders and infected individuals across the world, evolving into the COVId-19 pandemic. Notably, early signs of the virus’s existence were observed in various countries before the initial outbreak in Wuhan. As of 12th of April, the respiratory disease had infected over 762 million people worldwide, with over 6.8 million deaths recorded. This has led scientists to focus their efforts on understanding the virus to develop effective means to diagnose, treat, prevent, and control this pandemic. One of the areas of focus is the isolation of this virus, which plays a crucial role in understanding the viral dynamics in the laboratory. In this study, we report the isolation and detection of locally circulating SARS-CoV-2 in Kenya. The isolates were cultured on Vero Cercopithecus cell line (CCL-81) cells, RNA extraction was conducted from the supernatants, and reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). Genome sequencing was done to profile the strains phylogenetically and identify novel and previously reported mutations. Vero CCL-81 cells were able to support the growth of SARS-CoV-2 in vitro, and mutations were detected from the two isolates sequenced (001 and 002). Genome sequencing revealed the circulation of two isolates that share a close relationship with the Benin isolate with the d614G common mutation identified along the S protein. These virus isolates will be expanded and made available to the Kenya Ministry of Health and other research institutions to advance SARS-CoV-2 research in Kenya and the region.

Ketamine,a noncompetitive N-methyl-d-aspartate(NMdA)receptor antagonist,has been exclusively used as an anesthetic in medicine and has led to new insights into the pathophysiology of neuropsychiatric *** studies have shown that low subanesthetic doses of ketamine produce antidepressant effects for individuals with ***,its use as a treatment for psychiatric disorders has been limited due to its reinforcing effects and high potential for diversion and *** studies have focused on understanding the molecular mechanisms underlying ketamine’s antidepressant effects,but a precise mechanism had yet to be *** we review different hypotheses for ketamine’s mechanism of action including the direct inhibition and disinhibition of NMdA receptors,aminomethylphosphonic acid receptors(AMPAR)activation,and heightened activation of monoaminergic *** proposed mechanisms are not mutually exclusive,and their combined influence may exert the observed structural and functional neural *** term use of ketamine induces brain structural,functional impairments,and neurodevelopmental effects in both rodents and *** misuse has increased rapidly in the past 20 years and is one of the most common addictive drugs used in *** proposed mechanisms of action and supporting neuroimaging data allow for the development of tools to identify‘biotypes’of ketamine use disorder(KUd)using machine learning approaches,which could inform intervention and treatment.

Influence of MBBR carrier geometrical properties and biofilm thickness restraint on biofilm properties,effluent particle size distribution,settling velocity distribution,and settling behaviour

The relatively poor settling characteristics of particles produced in moving bed biofilm reactor(MBBR)outline the importance of developing a fundamental understanding of the characterization and settleability of MBBR-produced *** influence of carrier geometric properties and different levels of biofilm thickness on biofilm characteristics,solids production,particle size distribution(PSd),and particle settling velocity distribution(PSVd)is evaluated in this *** analytical Vi CAs method is applied to the MBBR effluent to assess the distribution of particle settling *** method is combined with microscopy imaging to relate particle size distribution to settling *** conventionally loaded MBBR systems are studied at a similar loading rate of 6.0 g/(m^(2)·day)and with different carrier *** AnoxK^(TM)K5 carrier,a commonly used carrier,is compared to so-called thickness-restraint carriers,AnoxK^(TM)Z-carriers that are newly designed carriers to limit the biofilm ***,two levels of biofilm thickness,200μm and 400μm,are studied using AnoxK^(TM)Z-200 and Z-400 *** analysis confirms that K5 carriers demonstrated a significantly different biofilm mass,thickness,and density,in addition to distinct trends in PSd and PSVd in comparison with ***,in comparison of thickness-restraint carriers,Z-200 carrier results did not vary significantly compared to the Z-400 *** K5 carriers showed the lowest production of suspended solids(0.7±0.3 gTSS/day),thickest biofilm(281.1±8.7μm)and lowest biofilm density(65.0±1.5 kg/m^(3)).The K5 effluent solids also showed enhanced settling behaviour,consisting of larger particles with faster settling velocities.

Biomimetic flexible plate actuators are faster and more efficient with a passive attachment

Using three-dimensional computer simulations, we probe biomimetic free swimming of an internally actuated flexible plate in the regime near the first natural frequency. The plate is driven by an oscillating internal moment approximating the actuation mechanism of a piezoelectric macro fiber composite (MFC) bimorph. We show in our simulations that the addition of a passive attachment increases both swimming velocity and efficiency. Specifically, if the active and passive sections are of similar size, the overall performance is the best. We determine that this optimum is a result of two competing factors. If the passive section is too large, then the actuated portion is unable to generate substantial deflection to create sufficient thrust. On the other hand, a large actuated section leads to a bending pattern that is inefficient at generating thrust especially at higher frequencies.
