In a local context, sustainable development entails utilizing the current resources—material and immaterial, measurable and immeasurable, popular and unpopular—of the community in a manner that avoids overexploitation and ensures intergenerational equity. This approach prioritizes the safety and health of local citizens, placing communal productivity above corporate profitability. This research aims to assess air quality surrounding 28 chemical industry sites in baton Rouge, Louisiana, to understand the environmental and health impacts of industrial pollutants, with a focus on environmental justice. Air quality pollutants, including PM2.5, PM10, O3, NO2, CO, and SO2, were monitored for 75 days during the Summer, using the breezoMeter app. Python, Mapize, and QGIS software technologies were utilized for data analysis and visualization. Findings indicate a reduction in NO2 and CO levels, compared to existing literature. However, the persistent challenge of particulate matter suggests areas for further environmental management efforts. Additionally, the research suggests a significant disparity in air pollution exposure, probably affecting marginalized communities. Although the nature of the study might not fully capture annual pollution trends, the findings highlight the urgent need for the chemical industry to adopt efficient production methods and for policymakers to enhance air quality standards and enforcement, particularly in pollution-sensitive areas. The disproportionate impact of air pollution on vulnerable communities calls for a more inclusive approach to environmental justice, ensuring equitable distribution of clean air benefits and community involvement in pollution management decisions.

Due to the non-linearity in ozone(O_(3))formation,reducing the emission of nitrogen oxides(NO_(x))may increase O_(3) *** the counteractive O_(3) response to NO_(x) reduction,overall impact of air pollution controls can be ambiguous when the assessments focus on the changes in pollutant *** this study,a risk-based method was used to gauge the net effect of air pollution controls on mortality risk in the beijing–Tianjin–Hebei(bTH)region during the 2022 Winter Olympics and Paralympics(WOP).This mega-event presents a unique opportunity to investigate the efficacy of deep cuts in pollutant *** show that O_(3) concentrations greatly increased as nitrogen dioxide(NO_(2))concentrations decreased in the *** to the active photochemical formations,O_(3) became the dominant pollutant that affected human health during the *** the substantial O_(3) increases,the health benefits of NO_(2) reductions overwhelmed the adverse health effects of O_(3) increases in most regions of the bTH(at 81 out of 112 stations).After considering the impacts of particulate matter,the integrated health risk of air pollution mixtures declined almost everywhere in the *** results underscore the great necessity of changing the assessment paradigm of pollution control from using concentration-based methods to using risk-based *** with the carbon neutrality policy,stringent control of NO_(x)emission from combustion sources is a promising way to achieve synergistic control solutions for air pollution and climate change.

We apply a zircon redox index to a global compilation of detrital zircons to track the variation of oxidation state,expressed asΔFMQ,through Earth's *** from I-type rocks,which comprise mantle and crustal igneous protoliths,including tonalite–trondhjemite–granodiorites(TTGs),generally have a high oxidation state(ΔFMQ>0).In contrast,zircons from igneous rocks derived from supracrustal source rocks(S-type)are commonly reduced(ΔFMQbability density function derived from the Gaussian-Kernel-Density-Estimation,we use the maximum likelihood estimation(MLE)to distinguish Stype from I-type zircons through Earth's history using zircon *** S-type magma production shows a ca.600 Ma cyclicity that is closely related to the supercontinent *** link a cyclic drop in redox values after 2.6 Ga to periodic S-type magma generation associated with burial and melting of metasedimentary rocks during supercontinent assembly and ***ΔFMQ of the detrital zircons rise at~3.5 Ga followed by a consistent averageΔFMQ>0 over the last 3 *** that the redox state of magmas is independent of crustal thickness and silica variation,and elevated values are likely more closely related to tectonic setting,we suggest that the consistent averageΔFMQ>0 from ca.3.5 Ga onwards relates to recycling of oceanic lithosphere back into the mantle in what eventually became established as subduction *** more reduced magmas associated with sedimentary sources,became established at 2.6 Ga,presumably in response to continental rocks rising above sealevel,and follow peaks of productivity associated with the supercontinent cycle.
