Hybrid coronary revascularization vs. percutaneous coronary interventions for multivessel coronary artery disease

ObJECTIVE Hybrid coronary revascularization(HCR)combines a minimally invasive surgical approach to the left anterior descending(LAD)artery with percutaneous coronary intervention(PCI)for non-LAD diseased coronary arteries.It is associated with shorter hospital lengths of stay and recovery times than conventional coronary artery bypass surgery,but there is little information comparing it to isolated PCI for multivessel disease.Our objective is to compare long-term outcomes of HCR and PCI for patients with multivessel disease.METHODS This cohort study used data from New York’s cardiac surgery and PCI registries in 2010−2016 to examine mortality and repeat revascularization rates for patients with multivessel coronary artery disease who underwent HCR and PCI.Cox proportional hazards methods were used to reduce selection bias.Patients were followed for a median of four years.RESULTS There was a total of 335 HCR patients(1.2%)and 25,557 PCI patients(98.8%)after exclusions.There was no difference in 6-year risk adjusted survival between HCR and PCI patients 83.17%vs.81.65%,adjusted hazard ratio(aHR)=0.90(95%CI:0.67−1.20).However,HCR patients were more likely to be free from repeat revascularization in the LAD artery(91.13%vs.83.59%,aHR=0.51(95%CI:0.34−0.77)).CONCLUSIONS For patients with multi-vessel coronary artery disease,HCR is rarely performed.There are no differences in mortality rates after four years,but HCR is associated with lower repeat revascularization rates in the LAD artery,presumably due to better longevity in left arterial mammary grafts.

Helicobacter pylori(H.pylori)infection is a threat to human health.The lipopolysaccharide(LPS)O-antigen holds promise for developing vaccines.It is meaningful to explore the immunological activity of oligosaccharides with different lengths and frameshifts for antigen development.Herein,a glycan library of H.pylori O2 O-antigen containing eight fragments is constructed.After screening with anti-H.pylori O2 LPS sera and patients’sera by glycan microarray,the disaccharide HPO2G-2b and trisaccharide HPO2G-3a show strong antigenicity and then are separately conjugated with carrier protein CRM197.both glycoconjugates elicit a robust immunoglobulin G(IgG)immune response in rabbits.The anti-HPO2G-3a IgG antibodies possess a much stronger binding affinity with the LPS and bacteria of H.pylori O2 than the anti-HPO2G-2b IgG antibodies.There is no cross-reaction between both sera IgG antibodies with LPS and bacteria of H.pylori O1,O6,and E.coli.The results demonstrate the trisaccharide HPO2G-3a is a promising candidate for H.pylori vaccine development.

With the integration of ultrafast reflectivity and polarimetry probes,we observed carrier relaxation and spin dynamics induced by ultrafast laser excitation of Ni(111)single crystals.The carrier relaxation time within the linear excitation range reveals that electron-phonon coupling and dissipation of photon energy into the bulk of the crystal take tens of picoseconds.On the other hand,the observed spin dynamics indicate a longer time of about 120 ps.To further understand how the lattice degree of freedom is coupled with these dynamics may require the integration of an ultrafast diffraction probe.

The development of full-spectrum photocatalysts active in the near-infrared(NIR)region has gained increasing attention for deleterious pollutant removal.The integration of plasmonic metals with semico nductors is an effective way to widen the light re sponse range of photocatalysts due to the strong light absorption and fast plasmonic energy transfer of the localized surface plasmon resonance(LSPR).In this work,the full-spectrum responsive bi@SrTiO_(3) was prepared via facile solvothermal chemical reduction.The optimal bi@SrTiO_(3) achieves exceptional photocatalytic Cr(VI)reduction efficiency and tetracycline degradation,realizing bi-directional promotion effects on redox reaction.According to density functional theory(DFT)simulations,the extraordinary photocatalytic performance is attributed to the tunable builtin electric field(IEF)of the Ohmic contact.The favorable adaptability in real water and high stability of bSTO-25 were proved by experime ntal results.And the po ssible photocatalytic mechanism was proposed based on theoretical calculation and experimental results.Furthermore,the non-toxicity of the bSTO-25 was evaluated by E.coli cultivation,which further proves the feasibility of treating wastewater with bSTO-25.This work provides a new perspective on constructing full-spectrum-driven photocatalysts for applications dealing with environmental remediation.

Due to the non-linearity in ozone(O_(3))formation,reducing the emission of nitrogen oxides(NO_(x))may increase O_(3) concentration.Given the counteractive O_(3) response to NO_(x) reduction,overall impact of air pollution controls can be ambiguous when the assessments focus on the changes in pollutant concentrations.In this study,a risk-based method was used to gauge the net effect of air pollution controls on mortality risk in the beijing–Tianjin–Hebei(bTH)region during the 2022 Winter Olympics and Paralympics(WOP).This mega-event presents a unique opportunity to investigate the efficacy of deep cuts in pollutant emissions.Results show that O_(3) concentrations greatly increased as nitrogen dioxide(NO_(2))concentrations decreased in the bTH.Due to the active photochemical formations,O_(3) became the dominant pollutant that affected human health during the WOP.Despite the substantial O_(3) increases,the health benefits of NO_(2) reductions overwhelmed the adverse health effects of O_(3) increases in most regions of the bTH(at 81 out of 112 stations).After considering the impacts of particulate matter,the integrated health risk of air pollution mixtures declined almost everywhere in the bTH.Our results underscore the great necessity of changing the assessment paradigm of pollution control from using concentration-based methods to using risk-based methods.Together with the carbon neutrality policy,stringent control of NO_(x)emission from combustion sources is a promising way to achieve synergistic control solutions for air pollution and climate change.

We apply a zircon redox index to a global compilation of detrital zircons to track the variation of oxidation state,expressed asΔFMQ,through Earth's history.Those from I-type rocks,which comprise mantle and crustal igneous protoliths,including tonalite–trondhjemite–granodiorites(TTGs),generally have a high oxidation state(ΔFMQ>0).In contrast,zircons from igneous rocks derived from supracrustal source rocks(S-type)are commonly reduced(ΔFMQbability density function derived from the Gaussian-Kernel-Density-Estimation,we use the maximum likelihood estimation(MLE)to distinguish Stype from I-type zircons through Earth's history using zircon redox.Voluminous S-type magma production shows a ca.600 Ma cyclicity that is closely related to the supercontinent cycle.We link a cyclic drop in redox values after 2.6 Ga to periodic S-type magma generation associated with burial and melting of metasedimentary rocks during supercontinent assembly and amalgamation.TheΔFMQ of the detrital zircons rise at~3.5 Ga followed by a consistent averageΔFMQ>0 over the last 3 Ga.Given that the redox state of magmas is independent of crustal thickness and silica variation,and elevated values are likely more closely related to tectonic setting,we suggest that the consistent averageΔFMQ>0 from ca.3.5 Ga onwards relates to recycling of oceanic lithosphere back into the mantle in what eventually became established as subduction zones.The more reduced magmas associated with sedimentary sources,became established at 2.6 Ga,presumably in response to continental rocks rising above sealevel,and follow peaks of productivity associated with the supercontinent cycle.

Measures of Relative and Absolute Convergence and Pro-poor Growth with an Illustration based on China(2010–2018)

Income mobility is a key issue for understanding the process of economic growth and distributional change.Some economists have used the concept of“pro-poor growth”to examine,with individual-level panel data,whether the poor benefit more than the rich from economic growth by tracking the extent of income mobility among different population subgroups.There is also literature in macroeconomics on the measurement of convergence.This paper introduces population-weighted relative and absolute indices of mobility,convergence,and pro-poor growth;it also distinguishes between anonymous and nonanonymous approaches to these issues.The empirical analysis is based on Chinese panel data for the period 2010–2018.In both absolute and relative terms,income growth in China was greater for individuals with an initially lower income but only for lower income deciles in relative terms.There was also an overall increase in individual welfare from anonymous and nonanonymous perspectives,which was higher among younger individuals.The welfare of the poor did not increase more than that of the nonpoor.These results shed light on the evolution of income distribution in China during the past decade's rapid economic growth.

bioactive compounds derived from herbal medicinal plants modulate various therapeutic targets and signaling pathways associated with cardiovascular diseases(CVDs),the world’s primary cause of death.Ginkgo biloba,a well-known traditional Chinese medicine with notable cardiovascular actions,has been used as a cardio-and cerebrovascular therapeutic drug and nutraceutical in Asian countries for centuries.Preclinical studies have shown that ginkgolide b,a bioactive component in Ginkgo biloba,can ameliorate atherosclerosis in cultured vascular cells and disease models.Of clinical relevance,several clinical trials are ongoing or being completed to examine the efficacy and safety of ginkgolide b-related drug preparations in the prevention of cerebrovascular diseases,such as ischemia stroke.Here,we present a comprehensive review of the pharmacological activities,pharmacokinetic characteristics,and mechanisms of action of ginkgolide b in atherosclerosis prevention and therapy.We highlight new molecular targets of ginkgolide b,including nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate oxidases(NADPH oxidase),lectin-like oxidized LDL receptor-1(LOX-1),sirtuin 1(SIRT1),platelet-activating factor(PAF),proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 9(PCSK9)and others.Finally,we provide an overview and discussion of the therapeutic potential of ginkgolide b and highlight the future perspective of developing ginkgolide b as an effective therapeutic agent for treating atherosclerosis.
