BACKGROUND For optimizing fecal immunochemical test(FIT)-based screening programs,reducing the rate of missed colorectal cancers(CRCs)by FIT(FIT-interval CRCs)is an important *** of the molecular make-up of these missed lesions could facilitate more accurate detection of all(precursor)*** To compare the molecular make-up of FIT-interval CRCs to lesions that are detected by FIT[screen-detected CRCs(SD-CRCs)].METHODS FIT-interval CRCs observed in a Dutch pilot-program of FIT-based screening were compared to a control group of SD-CRCs in a 1:2 ratio,resulting in 27 FIT-interval CRC and 54 *** analyses included microsatellite instability(MSI),CpG island methylator phenotype(CIMP),DNA sequence mutations and copy number alterations(CNAs).RESULTS Although no significant differences were reached,FIT-interval CRCs were more often CIMP positive and MSI positive(33%CIMP in FIT-interval CRCs vs 21%in SD-CRCs(P=0.274);19%MSI in FIT-interval CRCs vs 12%in SD-CRCs(P=0.469)),and showed more often serrated pathway associated features such as BRAF(30%vs 12%,P=0.090)and PTEN(15%vs 2.4%,P=0.063)*** mutations,a classic feature of the adenoma-carcinoma-sequence,were more abundant in SD-CRCs(68%vs 40%in FIT-interval CRCs P=0.035).Regarding CNAs differences between the two groups;FIT-interval CRCs less often showed gains at the regions 8p11.22-q24.3(P=0.009),and more often gains at 20p13-p12.1(P=0.039).CONCLUSION Serrated pathway associated molecular features seem to be more common in FIT-interval CRCs,while classic adenoma carcinoma pathway associated molecular features seem to be more common in *** indicates that proximal serrated lesions may be overrepresented among FITinterval CRCs.

A material termed“carbonaceous sulfur hydride”has recently been reported to be a high-pressure room temperature superconductor[Snider et al.,Nature 586,373(2020)].We have previously pointed out that certain anomalies observed in the published data for the ac magnetic susceptibility of this material would be cleared up once the measured raw data were made available[***,arXiv:2110.12854v1(2021)and ***,Physica C 590,1353964(2021)(temporarily removed)].The measured raw data,as well as numerical values of the data presented in figures in the aforementioned paper by Snider et al.,have recently been posted on the arXiv[*** and ***,arXiv:2111.15017v1(2021)and *** and ***,arXiv:2111.15017v2(2021)].Here,we report the results of our analysis of these raw data and published data and our conclusion that the raw data are incompatible with the published *** of these results for the claim that the material is a room temperature superconductor are discussed.

This study presents a computational framework that investigates the effect of localised surface-based corrosion on the mechanical performance of a magnesium-based alloy.A finite element-based phenomenological corrosion model was used to generate a wide range of corrosion profiles,with subsequent uniaxial tensile test simulations to predict the mechanical response to *** python-based detection framework PitScan provides detailed quantification of the spatial phenomenological features of corrosion,including a full geometric tracking of corroding *** this approach,this study is the first to quantitatively demonstrate that a surface-based non-uniform corrosion model can capture both the geometrical and mechanical features of a magne-sium alloy undergoing corrosion by comparing to experimental *** this verified corrosion modelling approach,a wide range of corrosion scenarios was evaluated and enabled quantitative relationships to be established between the mechanical integrity and key phenomenological corrosion *** particular,we demonstrated that the minimal cross-sectional area parameter was the strongest predictor of the remaining mechanical strength(R2=0.98),with this relationship being independent of the severity or spatial features of localised surface ***,our analysis demonstrated that parameters described in ASTM G46-94 showed weaker correlations to the mechanical integrity of corroding specimens,compared to parameters determined by *** study establishes new mechanistic insight into the performance of the magnesium-based materials undergoing corrosion.

Endemic mammalian species on islands are generally known to have followed a different evolutionary pathway than their mainland relatives. General patterns, such as body size trends, have been described regularly. How-ever, most island mammal species are unique and each of them is adapted to a specific local niche as part of an equally specific ecological assemblage. Therefore, comparing island species across taxa, islands and time is in-herently dangerous without understanding the adaptational value of the studied feature in the compared taxa and without taking the ecological setting of the taxa into account. In this contribution, general and recurring patterns are described per taxon. Some features, like body mass change and sturdy limbs, are relatively general, where-as most features, like bone fusions and change of orbital axis, occur only in a very few taxa. Some features are even contradictory, such as brain size and degree of hypsodonty, with each taxon having its own particular de-sign. In conclusion, general patterns are more often than not just trends and need to be applied with caution.

Recent studies have made substantial progress in understanding the interactions between cognitive functions, from language to cognitive control, attention, and memory. However, dissociating these functions has been hampered by the close proximity of regions involved, as in the case in the prefrontal and parietal cortex. In this article, we review a series of studies that investigated the relationship between language and other cognitive functions in an alternative way - by examining their functional （co-）lateralization. We argue that research on the hemispheric lateralization of language and its link with handedness can offer an appropriate starting- point to shed light on the relationships between different functions. Besides functional interactions, anatomical asymmetries in non-human primates and those underlying language in humans can provide unique information about cortical organization. Finally, some open questions and criteria are raised for an ideal theoretical model of the cortex based on hemispheric specialization.

A comprehensive review is presented of reported aspects and putative mechanisms of sleep-like motility rhythms throughout the animal kingdom. It is proposed that ＇rapid eye movement （REM） sleep＇ be regarded as a special case of a distinct but much broader category of behavior, ＇rapid body movement （RBM） sleep＇, defined by intrinsically- generated and apparently non-purposive movements. Such a classification completes a 2 2 matrix defined by the axes sleep versus waking and active versus quiet. Although ＇paradoxical＇ arousal of forebrain electrical activity is restricted to warm-blooded vertebrates, we urge that juvenile or even infantile stages of development be investigated in cold-blooded animals, in view of the many reports of REM-like spontaneous motility （RBMs） in a wide range of species during sleep. The neurophysiological bases for motorically active sleep at the brainstem level and for slow-wave sleep in the forebrain appear to be remarkably similar, and to be subserved in both cases by a primitive diffuse mode of neuronal organization. Thus, the spontaneous synchronous burst discharges which are characteristics of the sleeping brain can be readily simu- lated even by highly unstructured neural network models. Neuromotor discharges during active sleep appear to reflect a hierarchy of simple relaxation oscillation mechanisms, spanning a wide range of spike-dependent relaxation times, where- as the periodic alternation of active and quiet sleep states more likely results from the entrainment of intrinsic cellular rhythms and/or from activity-dependent homeostatic changes in network excitability.
